Thank you all and happy trails!
We've recently sold our 1995 EVC to another couple. They are ideal owners IMHO as they are both mechanical engineers and worked their way through college as auto mechanics. They also have plenty of previous VW experience and are avid campers so they seem like a great fit. Before I leave this group I wanted to say a huge collective thank you to all who participated in this group over the years. We benefited in so many ways from the incredible insights and knowledge shared in the group since we purchased our rig in 2008. It was instrumental in helping us understand how to keep the van running well and providing so many great experiences and memories. Without all that I don't know that we would have stuck it out for the 15+ years but I'm so glad we did. Thanks all and happy trails! 1991 VW microfiche
Update 4/29/24: After finding out this morning that it would cost $17 to mail a DVD to Canada, I decided there had to be a better way. I've created a shared Google Drive with all the files at https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1GDSq5uSByhY0tAQERESNK-GhmxDjVNM0?usp=sharing. I'll still mail a DVD to those in the US if you want one for $4. If/when VW complains, I'll take them down. In case there are any others out there that are gluttons for punishment like me, I've recently scanned in a set of microfiche that I bought in 1990 when we got my wife's Passat, with the update for 1991. I created pdf files, then converted them to OCR so they can be searched. Some of them weren't that great to begin with so some things may have been missed. The biggest disappoint to me was the 2 missing sheets for the vanagon. I'll be glad to copy them onto a DVD for anyone that wants a copy. I haven't (yet?) looked to see if this info is available on Erwin. If so, you can probably get much better files there. I'm planning to check it out when I have a couple of days and will remove this message if they're there. All I ask is that you contact me directly and send $4 for the postage. I'd offer to email them, but the files are extremely large, even after optimization, and most email services won't handle them. Looking for an EVC driver's seat that swivels clockwise 5
The driver's seat in my 2001 EVC only swivels outward. I would like to swap it for a seat that swivels inward, toward the midline, like the 1997 EVC. Is there some way to change the rotation of the seat in the 2001? I don't think so. Does anyone know where I could find a driver's seat from a 1997 EVC. Then I could just swap out.

Back to my 2003 EV. Mechanic in the Chicago Area? Reporting back. 3
I finally decided at the end of March (yes 2024 -I spend a lot of extended time out of town) and took the EV to Import Service Center in Glenview. They callled me in advance to ask because of the time required and redid ALL the wiring in the driver door so now the electric mirrors and the window work properly. They also fixed the dor handle that was inop from the outside. Checked brake and coolant fluids and determined they are OK. Also replaced the fuel filter ( I thought it would make life easier on the fuel pump which is NLA.) They also diagnosed and fixed an intermittent rattle that was driving me batty and I thought was suspension related but no, it was a heat shield. Finally I asked them to do a general inspection as I am planning to travel this summer. They told me the spark plugs were OK and everyhing seemed to be in good working order. I am happy with their service. On Thursday, July 27, 2023 at 01:41:50 PM CDT, Eduardo Cotillas via groups.io <daytonars97@...> wrote: Thank you all for the suggestions. Hello, We have a 1997 EVC mostly original but missing the metal fresh water refill door. Perhaps a useless part, probably why it got removed and lost in the first place, but would like it just to keep the EVC complete. Any suggestions how to get one welcome. Reuben

Big brake upgrade 10
Hi all, I was hoping to upgrade my 95 EVC with the brakes from an '03 EV donor vehicle. For the front brakes, I was surprised that the knuckle to caliper spacing is different. I knew the bolts were larger and the knuckle would have to be drilled out but I didn't realize there was roughly an 8 mm gap that would need to be filled and longer bolts sourced. Have any of you tackled this problem? Can I change the knuckle between those years? On the rear, I plan on replacing the whole swing arm to go from drums to discs. I'm curious now if there are surprises waiting for me on doing that. I really want to improve the braking on the 95 camper because I've already had one accident due to not being able to slow down quickly enough. Any advice on this conversion will be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Kent Currently 5 Eurovans

FS: My Beloved 2001 EV Weekender. Low miles good shape. Kept in garage
UPDATED: March 27, 2024 2001 Volkswagen Eurovan MV Weekender. Original owner. Clear title. No smoking or kids. 85754 miles as of March 27, 2024. VIN WV2NB47011H105521. Kept in garage since purchased in 2001. It is red with gray cloth interior. 201HP VR6 2.8L Vehicle passed Illinois emission test September 2023. Premium gas always used. $30,000.00 or make reasonable offer. I’m guessing that if you are interested, you know something about this model VW, or you can Google. I have all manuals and service receipts. I even have the original window sticker! The van is in great shape considering its age and all the wonderful adventures we’ve had. We hope someone will enjoy it as much as we have and make their own great memories. The van has EXCEPTIONALLY low mileage as noted above. It went out when I could get away. It was mostly highway driven. I also have a photo gallery set up if you are seriously interested. 43 photos there since CL has 24 photo limit. Just let me know. This Eurovan was never involved in any major accidents, though a couple of minor fender benders because I was dumb. All repaired by a good shop (Gerber). All mechanical items work. Pop top operates smoothly and there are no holes, tears or rotting of pop top canvas. The Fiberglass roof is in excellent condition. Van was hand waxed (by me) once yearly and more frequently when I was younger and good looking. Exterior Paint is in great shape. There are a few paint nicks here and there from road debris that I touched up just to protect from rust. Many years ago, a small pebble hit and made a very small chip on the windshield which was repaired by SafeLite. It has stayed the same forever. This is all shown in the photos that I posted. Rust: there are two places that I have had to keep up with. They are both located by the wheel well where the door closes on both the driver and passenger sides: see posted photos. It is not rusted through and to this day am not sure why this is happening. I was keeping up with it by sanding/brushing, re-priming, and painting. But those are really the only two spots and for now cosmetic. I have a spray cans of custom paint and clearcoat that I’m including. I had to changed out the front grill after a bird vs. van incident April 2012. The replacement grill, lower grill, and windshield wiper hood grill are black which I always liked better than the original red one. There are a few very minor small dents on body, mostly from bumping into something like a cooler or just stuff. Rear windshield wiper works fine. Radio antennae in good shape. Front wipers good. There is the original locking gas cap, but the lock mechanism doesn’t function. Engine: In great shape, coolant changed recently. Had a small leak from a coolant hose, which along with thermostat was replaced in May 2022. Runs smoothly. There is a very slow oil leak that I noticed on my garage floor. It seems to leak more when it sits after driving. Maybe 6-8 oz. Then stops. The engine is not burning oil and there is no smoke coming from exhaust. I constantly monitor oil with dip stick and it is not throwing any warning lights on dash. I’ve carried a quart of oil with me since this started happening five or six years ago, but have never had to add any while on the road or at home. That oil will go home with you. Every VW I’ve owned leaked at some point. Transmission fluid changed at 40k and 80k. The main battery was replaced two years ago. Tires are about two years old. Kumho Crugen HT51 215 65 R16 102T. There is a spare tire but it may be the original. The main muffler was replaced May 2012.I have paper work. Both power mirrors work fine. All service was done by VW dealer (Autobarn in Mt Prospect, IL where I bought van) up until a few years ago when I started going to a recommended shop in my area (Import Service Center in Glenview, IL). Oil and filter changes done at 6-month intervals. Usually far less than 5000 miles. Oil and filter were changed March 27, 2024 Other service performed includes: VW Recall to replace engine coils February 2004 Engine coolant temperature sender replace February 2009 Front brakes replaced August 2009 Brake Service April 2017 Engine tensioner and belt replace March 2018 Tie Rod replacement March 2018 80K service April 2019 I installed a 2” receiver and 7 way plug a few years ago to tow a small travel trailer. I am also including a Prodigy Brake controller. Interior Aside from some minor wear and tear, the interior is in great shape. All gauges work. Ashtray clean, lighter has never been used. AM/FM Radio works. If you happen to have cassettes lying around, you are in luck! Radio has cassette player. Front has always had carpet protectors. The ones in there now are a few years old. I have the original under seat cooler, which was stored in my basement for the last 20 years. The cargo area carpet (in front of bench seat) has a few stains, but has always been either vacuumed or brushed out. None of the seats or upholstery has any rips or tears. I have the original snap-in bug screen that covers the rear when hatch is opened. I also have the original snap-in cloth window blind. One or two of the snaps came off several years ago but could probably be fixed. The sliding door works fine. However, the interior panel sometimes come loose in one corner if the door is shut to hard. If this happens you have to manually lock side door. It snaps back into place but should probably be secured better. All plastic parts in good shape including dash, steering wheel, etc. Heat and air conditioner work, as do the great heated front seats. Back seat slides and folds easily. Tracks have been well maintained. Dinette table works fine. The auxiliary battery under the driver’s seat is the original battery, 23 years old, but still powers the two interior fluorescent lights. I’d replace it if doing some serious travel. Please feel free to get in touch with any questions. Or if you’d like to talk, send me your phone number. I’m going to miss this camper. Included in sale: Spare key FOB and accessory keys Prodigy Brake controller 2” receiver for hitch Original VW Rear screen Original VW Front snap on privacy curtain Spare VW center wheel hub cover with VW logo. Custom touch-up paint and clearcoat Note: This Volkswagen Weekender is being sold AS-IS with no warranty. No returns. All sales are final. Cashier’s check please. Serious inquiries only please, but you can make me a reasonable offer. Thanks for looking.

Generator Warning Light 6
Colleagues, I own a 2000 Eurovan Camper. The starter battery needed to be replaced. So at the suggestion of the local AAA folks, I called Les Schwab to bring out a proper replacement and replace it, which was done. (See photo below.) Since the replacement, the generator warning light (a red car battery with + and – inside the battery symbol) has stayed on. It was not on before the replacement. I watched the Les Schwab guy install the battery. He literally touched nothing but the old battery, the cables, and the clamp that secures the battery down. This clamp was rusted out, and the base on which the battery rests is well on its way to oblivion also. These two abnormalities are the only things that were not in good condition. What do you believe has caused the generator warning light to come on and stay on? Much thanks, Peter Seidman 4643 John Luhr Road NE Olympia, WA 98516 petsei@... 510.292.5297

1993- VW Eurovan - alternator smoke 2
My Eurovan has been acting weird lately. Most recently, the alternator started to smoke. https://photos.app.goo.gl/HFUVzKXLates2ez69 It has been having issues starting/stalling and rough idle. Originally, I suspected a battery problem and just general lack of maintenance (not considering the alternator). I trickle charged the battery, but it was already prob 5 years old and had been run down a few times. So I bought a replacement battery. I drove it after the new battery (maybe 60 minutes of driving total), but it seemed a bit off. When I parked at home and went to start it again a few days later, the battery was dead. Still not thinking about the alternator, I thought maybe parasitic. So I disconnected most accessories and trickle charged my new battery back to 12.6. And yesterday, I started it again... and the video above happened. The alternator was smoking. As far as I know, the alternator has not been replaced in the time I've owned it. Crazy, almost 12 years. Bought an aftermarket and getting ready to install (my Eurovan is in a "should I keep it" state, a lot of rust and some other issues)... otherwise I'd buy Bosch/OEM. But right now, just trying to determine (hopefully) that the faulty alternator has been causing some irregular issues. Just watched this video about replacement. Anybody else have any good tips for replacement or general thoughts on my Eurovan/alternator?

Headlight issues - 1993 EV 17
My 1993 EV has had some headlight issues lately. I don't know the cause, and I'm relegated to only driving in daylight. The headlights were upgraded to e-codes many years ago (about 10). The high beam option seemed to be problematic at times over the years... the "pull" on the lever would yield highs or sometimes just "off" on the headlights. Now, the headlights are completely off. I suspect it is the wiring or parts that I installed to upgrade. But I'm wondering if there are any diagnostics (multimeter readings) I can use to confirm the dash controls would be sending the correct output.

95 EVC Converter update - pictures 6
---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Brian Collins <briancollins.tx@...> Date: Thu, Feb 8, 2024 at 12:07 PM Subject: 95 EVC Converter update To: <[email protected]> New member here. I’m in the process of restoring a 1995 EVC (Eurovan Winnebago camper.) i’ve got the complete interior out to re-dye to the lighter shade of dove gray that the later versions have, And while I had all the interior panels out, and having discovered a major rodent infestation back by the power Converter and furnace,… I decided to go ahead and update the Converter. I am Installing a PowerMax AC to DC converter/charger. I was reviewing the converter update thread on 1705.net and have some questions about his procedure. He post before and after picture after removing the “filtered “lead and installing a longer “buss bar“. Looking at the back of my panel, I have no buss bar such as shown in the 1705.net write up. I just tried to post pictures, but received an error message, so not sure how to proceed on adding Pictures. If you are the blogger, who maintains 1705.net would it be possible for us to visit directly by phone?
