Back to my 2003 EV. Mechanic in the Chicago Area? Reporting back.

I finally decided at the end of March (yes 2024 -I? spend a lot of extended time out of town) and took the EV to Import Service Center in Glenview.?

?They? callled me in advance to ask because of the time required and redid ALL the wiring in the driver door so now the electric mirrors and the window work properly.? They also fixed the dor handle that was inop from the outside. Checked brake and coolant fluids and determined they are OK.? Also replaced the fuel filter ( I thought it would make life easier on the fuel pump which is NLA.)? They also diagnosed and fixed an intermittent rattle that was driving me batty and I thought was suspension related but no, it was a heat shield.? Finally I asked them to do a general inspection as I am planning to travel this summer.? They told me the spark plugs were OK and everyhing seemed to be in good working order.?

I am happy with their service.

Eduardo I live next to Glenview (Morton Grove) and have only talked with Glenview Import and they say they work on Eurovans and can do VR6 timing chains. I've had Mobile One also in Glenview work on my Eurovan based Itasca Sunstar and my Jetta so you could give the owner Jason a call. My first choice for service on my 02 Weekender is Larry Roesch VW the service department is first rate and they will work on Eurovans. Good Luck

Thank you, Sean.? It s a 2003.? Yes I could try and may be I will if I cannot find a good shop.? But I am getting old and I do not have good facilities to work on it.

You definitely want the right shop if you have the VR6 for the transmission service. There is a procedure to it for sure.
Honestly for much of these types of services, it isn’t difficult to jump on YouTube and do it. Just a thought anyway. Good luck, that is a big market, must be a good shop somewhere.

Hello everyone.? After 12 months out of the last 18 out of the USA I am back in Chicago.? During that period, the EV was garaged with a trickle charger.? Fortunately, it did start easily and seems to run well.? It has 77K miles, so I am looking for a shop that could do the 80K mile service including tranny fluid change.? I also need to fix a few items such as the parking brake, door handle, etc.??

? I searched and only found a somewhat old recommendation for Glenview Import Service Center.? I was wondering if anyone has any other recommendation to service the EV in the Chicago area?? I love the van, but I am becoming frustrated in finding a shop that will work in the EV (a few have refused and the last one I used said they do not want to work on it anymore) and that I can trust.

Hi Eduardo- how many hours of labor was the door rewiring? My mechanic in Denver (Eurovan focused) did not seem to want to take on this task (windows work, mirrors do not).

Thanks!

Eduardo and Spencer.

I used to drive my 01 Weekender from Chicago to Autobahn in Mt. Prospect. Had all service done there when John Paul was in Service, but he left and the whole operation was different.

As of a few years ago I started taking my van to Import Service and have been very pleased with them. Austin and Dan are great. Work I’ve had done: oil and filter changes, new battery and tires, replace a coolant hose and thermostat, and evaluate a very slow oil leak. The oil leak has stayed the same for many years, They said to just keep an eye on it. Which I have with no change, smoke, etc. Every VW I’ve owned leaked something at some point ;-}

There are always cool vehicles in their lot. The last time I was there a few weeks back for an oil change, Austin was having a conversation about Porches that was way above my head. Import Service are true motor heads and I mean that in the best way! So glad I found these guys. If someone eventually buys my van, I’d have no hesitation to send them to Import. Jonathan
