Re: 2000 cough question???
Donald Gibbons
Your EV has a very nice engine control system called OBD II. I say it
is nice cause it has a very good memory. Anything that happends while the engine is running that causes the check engine light to come on will be recorded. Then when you take it to the dealer and say "It did this" they hook up to their computer and see what happened. Since your EV is under warrenty (Right?) take it back and let them have a look. It should not cost you anything. Oh, and don't worry about them not knowing about EV's. The OBD II system is used by all VW since late in 96. |
Re: Awning installation - Shady Boy?
Larry Schellhase
In a strong wind I would most likely take it down.
Although a couple of times the strong wind came while we were away from the van and it survived, it looked somewhat like an inverted umbrella. The two things I like most about it are the small footprint and the height. I am 6'5" and most awnings keep knocking me in the head. I can pitch the Shady Boy so that I never run into it (I only have to watch out for tripping on the guy lines). I think "pitch it" is the correct term for setting up this awning, it is a lot like a backpacking tent. Which is another reason I like it, it is light weight and funcitonal - no unnecessary frills. While set up is not difficult, it does require some thought. For this reason I would not recommend it for my mother, she is 80. I haven't yet had the opportunity to use it in a strong rain. In a rain I would have to pitch it with the outside edge lower than the van side of the awning to get the runoff going in the right direction. This will take away my head room, however, I think it would provide a nice dry spot in front of the door - with the exception that, as with most awnings, there will be some leakage between the awning and the van. --- Randal Reed <conifer@...> wrote: I've thought about purchasing the shady boy, but__________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? 2000 cough question???
CHERYL ROSE ALAKAY BIRDS & MORE
I need advise from you guys one more time, I hope this has not been covered
before.......I recently bought a 2000 Eurovan from a dealership that has only sold one, MINE! So I wanted some advice before I head into their service department................ In less than 4000 miles my van has had a weird "cough" type problem...only done this three times....the engine actually sounds like it dies, but it doesn't and the check engine light comes on...all of this happens in a split second...always driving steady highway speed of 60-70 mph.......any ideas out there? Thx! Brent and Cheryl Rose Fieldton, TX alakay@... |

I've thought about purchasing the shady boy, but have been afraid to
commit until I saw one in person (although this isn't seeming likely). Could you give me your thoughts on your awning? What are the good points? What are the bad? How does it perform in the wind and/or heavy rain? Have you had a chance to compare it directly with a standard awning? Would you recommend it to your mother? Thanks, Randal Reed 2000 EVC --- In ev_update@..., Larry Schellhase <schellhase@y...> wrote: I installed a Shady Boy awning on my 99 EVC. I used |

We use a nylon strap with quick disconnects to secure our porta-potti to the rear seat frame when traveling to keep it securely in place. You can get the straps at most any camping supply store -- the kind used for securing "stuff" to backpack frames. Just wrap both ends around the rear seat frame somewhere and run the strap (with a quick disconnect somewhere in the middle) around the porta-potti. It doesn't interfere with the operation of the porta-potti, but avoids the problems you've encountered. We also attached 4 large rubber non-slip pads to the bottom of the porta-potti (got them at Home Depot) to make it even more secure. Porta-potti also makes a floor mount bracket for most of their models. I got a set of them but decided the strap system was better for us so we wouldn't have the brackets to contend with when we don't need the porta-potti in the van. We use the Rubbermaid 3 quart container but only for urine, anything
else happens outside, although could work in an emergency. Fits nicely in the door well of the 93, is leakproof, doesn't take much space or cost much, takes care of "most of our nightly or other unusual needs". The blower I ordered just arrived and it does't have the same style fan. (Hope it fits). I'll let you know shortly how much of a problem it is to swap them out. Don is correct in that the fan unit needs to be removed before the assembly can be removed (I tried it earlier without success). I hope the new unit goes in without needing to separate the fan from the motor. The noise you refer to seems that the bearings are shot and the lower amperage of the 'slow' fan speeds may not be enough to get the thing moving. Good luck. David 93MV |

Re: stumbling...

I went back to the dealer to complain about the spark plug and the crazy plug wires.
After telling the service manager the details he volunteered to have the vehicle towed in and the spark plug installation fixed - no charge! The wrecker driver was there at 7:15 this morning and I had the vehicle back at 3pm - no charge. And they didn't "find" a lot of other things that needed fixing, either. It works. I'll check it out with my inspection mirror when I get home, but it's not stumbling anymore. I'm impressed. I didn't expect the dealership to do this (it's under new management - maybe the new owner doesn't like the bad rep that most of the dealerships in town have for lousy service and is actually doing something about it). The dealership is Momentum VW (formerly Mahan VW) "inside the Loop" in Houston. bcnu - Grungy '60 dddPanel '69 Bug '90 Vanagon '93 Eurovan grungy@... opinions are just that.obviously. |

(My guess is that there are at least 150 Mac users among the 500 orso registered ev_update'ers in this group. Mac's have about 10% ofthe market so, guessing Macs are over-represented among VW owners, I'll guess30% of this group use Macs.)30 percent Mac users here? Maybe. I'm currently on my nice G3 at work, running 8.6 and Navigator, but I can't wait to get home to my ported and polished Windows/Intell machine at home. Count me in both camps. |

We went to Camping World and bought the one with a
level indicator to show how full the holding tank is full - a useful feature. We don't give it alot of use, but it is nice to have on a cold night. --- wess boerlage <wboerlage@...> wrote: My wife and I just bought a 1995 EuroVan Camper last __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Re: Subject: 95 EVC For Sale
I called on this camper. It was sold the day it was advertised. The add should
have said $15,695. There was nothing wrong with the vehicle. The sales person did not remember how many miles were on it. Someone got a good deal if the miles on it were reasonable.
