开云体育Overhauling machine tools can be a big part of the fun, or it can be a real drag.? I've done a few also.? I bought a couple of the asian "mini-" machines new, but the newest since then is my 1986 Select knee mill. It was well enough used but did not require any remedial work.? The one that took the most work was a pre-WWII Rivett 1020, two years of extensive repairs, remanufacturing of parts and even some castings/machining, but it was worth it.? When I moved 7 yrs ago, it got toppled on its face, so did not make the move.? While it was getting repaired, I came into a 1946 motor generator Monarch 10EE with a Newall DRO that had recently been fully restored, so all I had to do was get it here and set up.? I have and have had DROs on mills but never a lathe.? Pretty sweet.?Rick On 1/19/2024 5:05 PM, Bill in OKC too

David, how are you seeing "The motor wires connect to both the 3-6 pair and the 1-4 pair, but with reversed polarity on the 1-4 pair."? You are correct in that that would work but the diagram does not show it. Ralph On Fri, Jan 19, 2024 at 1:16?PM David Beierl <dbeierl@...> wrote:

The only machine tool I have here that was new or well-overhauled when I got it is my Atlas TH42, and it needed a good hosing down with WD-40. :) I have overhauled a couple more, and one of them needs to be overhauled again. :( Someday I'd like to buy something that is ready to work as soon as it lands on the bench. Re: And now.......reversible
"Bill, isn't your wiring diagram missing some wires to terminal 1 and 4? I don't see how throwing the switch would reverse a motor." The motor wires connect to both the 3-6 pair and the 1-4 pair, but with reversed polarity on the 1-4 pair.? This of course only works on DC motors that reverse with reversed polarity. Note that it would work the same if the motor were connected to the 2-5 pair and the battery to the 3-6 and 1-4 pairs. Yrs, David |
Re: Drive Coupler Not Staying Engaged, Craftsman 101.21200 MK2
开云体育It is a good question and thanks for the link, I've ordered two.?No worries on the fair comment/question, Brian.? After having searched on this issue on multiple forums, I've seen only comments about how the ball and spring are not captured and can fly out and be lost if not careful when removing the coupler from the spindle and how they have to be depressed into the hole, from the ID, when putting the coupler onto the spindle.? That is not the case with this coupler.? On this one, the ball and spring are captured and do not come out on their own.? If it were a matter of just letting (or getting) the ball and spring from the ID, I'd have already replaced the spring and tried a stronger one.? To get them out on this coupler, I think it will take drilling out from the outside. Until I got the factory drawing, I was uncertain if there is enough meat there to take a set screw to back up replacements.? Now that I have the drawing, I think there is more than enough, even for trying a longer and/or stiffer spring.? With the replacements ordered, that is an option and it would be easy to source a different spring.? As mentioned above, it looks viable to add a second detent ball into the open hole on the other side.? I've ordered some of the set screw detents, in different forces, which will get here in a couple days, so I'll likely try those in the other side first to see if it is enough to keep the coupler from slipping out.? If not, I can either replace the original spring, as above, or take those out and replace with another set screw detent. If none of that works, I have what is needed to make a replacement coupler out of aluminum and find out if positioning the detents to seat in the bottom of the grooves does any better.? If you see a different/better path, please put it out there, also in a serious and good-natured way??? Rick On 1/19/2024 6:15 AM, Bill in OKC too
