Good possibility. A
little WD-40 or some brake cleaner might free it up.?

Well, color me embarressed...? Thanks for pushing on this guys...
Didn't look very dirty from the outside...
A bit of Kroil and Q-tips freed it.? Cleaned the pocket, good bit
of crude in there.
I tried to lose the ball twice and nearly succeeded, had it neatly
in my hand, then dropped it.? Looked for it for a while but gave
up and fished a replacement one out of my supply of steel balls
and put it back together.? Still came out.? Spent more time
looking for the original, on the floor with the flashlight, like
the CSI guys.? Voila!
Getting it back on the spindle was a task.? Both the key and ball
liked to escape and hide.
All back together, with some improvement.? It doesn't slip out in
the second highest speed now, but does still at the highest.? I'll
try it with one of the new springs when the order from eBay
arrives.? I've located on spring on McM-C that is close the
original spring (1/8" OD, 3/8" length, 0.021" wire dia.) but is
longer (1") so I can trim to some lengths greater than the stock
spring.
