Having worked many years in a production / prototyping machine shop I am reminded of dealing with "the engineers"!
If a ten cent/ten minute solution is a possibility....well....we must first try the hundred dollar/ two week stab in the dark!
Why the resistance to replacing the original spring with one that approximates the original strength...or one that (for testing purposes) is even a bit stronger?
My comment is meant to be a good-natured (but serious) question.? ?LOL
