Re: Couple of questions
Commanding PTT with the CAT interface takes the audio from the Mike
input, not the Data jack. You have to key the rig from the specific
port the audio is coming from, or you'll get silence.

Re: Couple of questions
Okay, so I am making some progress.
CAT is wired and working, and RX audio from the radio is getting to the computer and being decoded. I am still not getting any TX tones from the computer into the

Re: Couple of questions
Thanks Greg,
I'll take another look at my wiring. I've built homebrew interfaces for years and never had this type of problem.

Re: Couple of questions
You must have a short somewhere, likely tip to something else. PTT
occurs when the tip of the plug gets pulled toward ground. If
there's nothing on the other end of the cable, then both the

Nope, just what's outlined in the manual for connecting the audio signals to the data jack.

Re: Couple of questions
Hi Max are using a signalink ?
And you refer to a capacitor and resistor is that for the inside of the signalink ?
Did you make up the cable yourself ? One end rj45 the other end stereo 3.5mm plug

Re: Couple of questions
I may just end up going the front mic jack method. I have a headset already wired and I don't mind swapping for digital modes when needed. Spend most of the time on digital anyway.
Anything special

Re: Couple of questions
Thanks Andrew
I tried the cap and resistor method as outlined in the manual, put the radio still goes into TX mode as soon as I plug it into the data jack. Even with the audio lines on the other end

Re: Couple of questions
Hi Max,
I found that an extremely easy way to get set up on the digital modes with the 847 while waiting for components to build the proper data/PTT cable was to use a RIGblaster

Re: Couple of questions
Greg,
Thank you very much. My FT-847 is in the serial number range of 8K15xxxx so it is well after the 8G05xxxx mentioned in the link you provided.

Re: Couple of questions
The issue was that the earlier version of the radio had a 1-way CAT
interface (computer to rig only). See:

Third harmonic problem?
Don't know if every radio ever made has the same 'feature' but...
Tried to contact the ISS during field day Uplink 145.990 FM
Downlink came out to around 437.962.3 FM clear receive signal.
As soon

Re: Couple of questions
I am still not clear on the serial number when the CPU on the AF-CNTL board was changed. I've tried to search for it but no luck. And for that matter, what was wrong with the initial CPU. (I admit I

What Tom said. It's the way many HTs are keyed as well.
I built a cable harness roughly similar to what Ian described,
hooking it to a Raspberry Pi 4B with a USB audio dongle. The

Re: Couple of questions
Hi Ian,
Yes I see in the manual now you have to use a blocking capacitor on the TX
audio line. That should be easy enough to do.
Coming from a Kenwood TS-850S, I owned a couple of FT-990's and a

Hi Max
From what I remember if you ground the audio out (the tip) this then
enables PTT on the data port.

Hi Gerald,
The CPU on the AF-CNTL board must be replaced.? Some service-centers got them from YAESU and did replacement on warranty back then.
I got my CPU from UK and as I recall the cost was about
