I hope some are still watching.
I have a VX-8R that I haven't used in several years. Am in a
wheelchair because of foot surgery, and want to use the radio.?
But I get no audio out.? It seems to work otherwise.? It
transmits, I hear on another radio.? I tried resetting the radio,
which reset everything, but no help.? I plugged/unplugged a jack
in the earphone jack, thinking it was dirty, no help.? I did have
it set up with a BH-1.? Could that be the problem ? Don't know how
to undo it if it is.

Hi Dave, I can think of a couple things you might check -
- Is the squelch set too tight?
- There is an Audio Mute feature - is it enabled?? How about the
Squelch S Meter setting?
- Did you perform a full factory reset?? With the radio powered
off - Press and Hold all 3 buttons on the left row (Band,?
HM/RV, TX/PO) while turning the radio on.? Then press the FW? to
reset all settings.? If you haven't used the radio in several
years a full reset might be in order anyway!
Good luck and 73,?

so, the first basic Question, and I hate asking it, as I believe you are smart enough, but is the BH1 adapter still in play with the radio? I assume not as you said you checked headphone/earphone port for dirty connection. Otherwise, I have seen on very rare occasions that a headphone port doesnt?make proper contact when the device is returned back to normal operation, or in this case the bluetooth adapter removed or other earphone device removed from port. Well, I was talking out my rear a moment ago. I thought I understood how the BH-1 worked. And while I do, I misunderstood that the BH-1 required an actual internal board, not simply an external adapter that plugs into the earphone port. so I removed my previous post. My apologies for not knowing what I was talking about. However in my quick research, I did learn that you may very well be correct. you may need to figure out how to turn off the bluetooth device. that could very well be causing your issue. I do not know your configuration. I dont have the 8r, I have the 7r, and cant use the BH-1. I wish!?? ?However I would suggest either the full reset which is less than desirable for many reasons, such as programming in all those wonderful repeaters you may already have.? ?and then a thought comes to me. if you have the cables for it, are you able to plug into the PC and are you able to activate any of the sound functions there?? Thanks to all who responded. This is funny.? I actually have two
VX-8R radios.? I did do a full reset on the radio in question.?
But still no RX audio. TX audio goes out, I can hear myself on the
other radio.? So I decided to use the other radio.? That radio has
no TX audio out.? It will key the repeater, but no audio.? Both
radios were fine a few years ago.? Haven't done a full reset on
the second radio, but will shortly.? I thought a full reset would
reset all parameters.? Looks like a hardware issue.

One more question.? At the bottom right of the screen, next to
the battery charge graph, there is a "S" that blinks.? Can't find
in the manual what it is, or if it is supposed to blink.? Ya'll
know about it ?

Blinking S is the battery saver indicator.
Any chance you have Tone Squelch or Digital tone squelch enabled on receive?

Thanks for the reply.
Bluetooth is disabled.? I get sound thru a speaker plugged into
the earphone jack.? Makes me wonder if there is just a wiring
issue with the speaker.? Otherwise, it seems to work in all other
modes.
I thought resetting the microprocessor would reset to original
settings.

Dave, one final thought - there are two Reset procedures and they
do different things.? One is a Microprocessor reset and the other
is a Set Mode reset.? You might try both just in case.? If that
doesn't work you may well have a bad speaker or connection.

Not familiar with the set mode reset. Will look that up?
