FNB-80LI battery dropped to 0V

Hello,
My VX-7r was sitting a couple of weeks without use, and the original FNB-80LI battery drained itself completely to show 0V.

The battery has been heavily drained before, but it was holding enough charge to keep the HT listening for 5-6h, so I am a little surprised.

My question is whether there is something I have running which drains the battery when it is powered off. The radio does have the barometer board installed.

Cheers,
Tobias?

Hello,

I have the?barometer board installed in my VX-7R and the radio sets, in off condition, for several months before I turn it on again with no battery drain problem.

First check to see if the timer feature of the VX-7R is off.
The VX-7R has the ability to turn its self on or off at a preset time. Refer to the attached photocopy of VX-7R Reference Manual.

if that is not the case,?
You could use a different fully charged battery, check the level, install it in the radio, with the radio OFF, let it set for a week, then remove the battery and recheck the battery level.? If there is no real level change, then your problem may be, the first battery is bad and needs rebuilt or disposed of.
If there is a drainage on the battery then your radio is in question and needs trouble shooting.
You could also check the battery in question by fully charge the discharged battery, then set it aside for a week or so then after that time, check the battery level. If the level changes significantly then the battery is in question.
Without hands on to troubleshoot the radio, it is hard to come up with an answer.

Hello Clyde,
thank you for the reference. I keep discovering odd little bits that this radio does, like the timer, and I just saw the WIRES internet link. I generally just use it with manual frequency input for simplex.

The timer is not on. The battery did wake up again after a long charge. The original battery is old, and I have an aftermarket replacement. You mention rebuilding the battery, which is something I will look into, since the original is no longer in production.

Hi Tobias,
I have found, refer to attached photocopy, the best, out of four, reference manuals for the VX-7R. It is small enough to fit in a shirt pocket and throughly shows all the features of the radio and how to use them.
I gave away the other reference manuals and only use this one.
I wish I could find one like it for the rest of my radios.
Anyway, if you can get one, I highly recommend it.
