Battery charging time
开云体育UPS delivered my FT-60 today. The manual says to let it charge for ten hours. How long does it take the included charger to bring the battery to full charge under normal use? Is the car charger any faster?Pete KD4CQZ On 8/13/2011 11:12 AM, Richard Von Aschen wrote:

开云体育Think I will go with the 2000mah Eneloops.? My battery pack is still in good shape, but I do have the battery holder for it and use it when the pack is dead until I can charge it up in the radio.? I need to purchase some other as well for other uses as well.? I don’t use the radio everyday either, but would like to have the batteries charged up when I would like to use it.? Will see how it goes. ? Thanks, Joey ? From: FT-60@... [mailto:FT-60@...] On Behalf Of Margy & Nick Rylatt

Re: programming ctcss tones
Personally, I "lock up" very few - if any - repeaters with CTCSS. I leave 'em ALL "open tone" on receive. Hasn't been a problem the past 15+ years.... Very annoying! It also prevents keying up on another's conversation if their repeater happens to also be in range. For localized events, I'll "lock up" a simplex frequency at low power with CTCSS or DCS both on TX and RX. But for general use? Think of keeping ip "open." Clint Bradford, K6LCS |
Re: programming ctcss tones
Bill Boyer
If you save the programming for each repeater into a memory location it will save the RX / TX frequency, tone and power level (I think) for each one. Clint has a good quick programming guide you can Google. I listen to several repeaters with a tone of 107.2. One has a different ctcss tone. Will the FT60 accept more than one ctcss tone while keeping the others? I have read the manual and still don't know. |

开云体育Out of curiosity I was thinking of getting some new eneloops for my FT60 since I have the AA battery case for it.? I assume you are using the 2000mah eneloops or the newer 2500mah eneloops?? Also what kind of runtime are you seeing, I know the battery pack with the FT60 gives me plenty of runtime, just wondering about the eneloops. ? Joey ? From: FT-60@... Re: programming
You've done the hard part: researching your region, and finding the local machines of interest.... Is there more that I am missing. I don't have any programming cable. ??? What makes the programming software/cable attractive is that you can quickly enter alphanumeric characters for those memory locations. SO ... instead of just seeing the frequency on the display, you can enter up to six alpha characters for each memory. You probably already have a spreadsheet of sorts for your setup. I posted my "worksheet" for my local freqs (So CA) on the DOCUMENTS page at ... Another cool thing about the software programming capability: If you travel, you can upload to the radio the freqs for your trips. And when you return home, just upload your "normal" set of memories back into the radio. Clint, K6LCS 909-241-7666 |
Re: programming ctcss tones
开云体育Each memory can be programmed with its own tone.? Also power level and repeater offset frequency.? I my area, some repeaters are on a 1.00 MHz offset instead of 0.600 MHz.73, Nick, AA3T On 8/13/2011 11:18 PM, kk4cif wrote: ? |

I travel quite a bit with my FT-60R. I have programmed all of the repeaters in for the three different places I usually visit, as well as our local ones here in "slower lower" Delaware. I then use the bank feature to set up each area. Then, all I have to do is to create a bank for each location and switch banks, as needed.
For my Wouxun HTs <gasp>, I just reprogram them as needed, having a file for each geographic area, etc., as they don't have the equivalent of the bank feature. /paul W3FIS |

Depends on how many different repeaters you have in your area and what your personal time is worth. For a few repeaters, no big deal. But when you have 150-200 to do, the cable and software makes it easy, especially if the radio has to be reset and reloaded. From: denmar020808 I'm new to the world of HAM, but I do not know what programming is needed for the FT-60.? I just saved my local repeaters in memory and gave them a name.? Is there more that I am missing.? I don't have any programming cable.? ??? |

One other advantage is if you ever need to update the firmware on your radio, it will probably wipe out all your frequencies and settings.? Having them on my laptop allows me to update the firmware then quickly just re-upload everything back onto my radio.

I hope this was not to basic and gives you some knowledege that will help you make a educated reason to get the programming software or not.? It is a nice option for your radio.

I purchased a USB programming cable from an Ebay seller for $8.89 and then downloaded the Commander software. Made it a snap to program the radio. I use it primarily as a scanner and have a mix of public service, military air and civilian air freqs as well as about 5 local repeaters. Using the software made it easy to program freqs and PL tones as well as change modes.

Call HRO and get the Yaesu software and it comes with a cable. After-market cables require an adapter to make the computer and the software to talk back and fore to radio. I found this the best way to program the FT-60, the only other thing you need wit the Yaesu software is a repeater directory. Richard, N7RIS From: denmar020808 To: FT-60@...
