You've done the hard part: researching your region, and finding the local machines of interest.
What makes the programming software/cable attractive is that you can quickly enter alphanumeric characters for those memory locations. SO ... instead of just seeing the frequency on the display, you can enter up to six alpha characters for each memory.
You probably already have a spreadsheet of sorts for your setup. I posted my "worksheet" for my local freqs (So CA) on the DOCUMENTS page at ...
Another cool thing about the software programming capability: If you travel, you can upload to the radio the freqs for your trips. And when you return home, just upload your "normal" set of memories back into the radio.
