Re: Fox Tango Corp. 89H2.1 IF Filter Specification and Installation Information and Schematic Needed: filter installed in an FT-101ZD Mk 0

Hi Michael,
Take a look in the Files section and open the old Fox Tango Newsletters pdf. Do a search for "Filter". These page number entries came up under FT-101ZD: 7942, 8233 & 8213. There are others as well but these are the first three.?

You will find 7942 (Year 1979 page 42) in the pdf at page 477 (of 1292 pages). This looks like what you are looking for. If not just keep searching.

The best test will be replace the high frequency module PB1181.
Year ago I saw an exotic problem, the R13 off 1k was damaged or with wrong resistance.
A good idea is measure voltage over transistors leads.

Cabinet Cover Screws for an FT-101ZD

Having misplaced the eight top cover screws, I am looking for a set of cabinet cover screws for a Yaesu FT-101ZD transceiver. The screws are cadmium plated steel metric, 3 mm diameter, 0.5 thread pitch, Phillips pan head painted a dark gray, of length 5 mm fully threaded. I would like the gray painted screw heads to match the original cabinet paint.

Thank you.

Yaesu XF8.9HC 600 Hz IF Filter for CW Mode in an FT-101ZD

I’m looking for a Yaesu XF8.9 HC IF filter for the FT-101ZD in excellent, like new, or new condition.

Thank you.

Fox Tango Corp. 89H2.1 IF Filter Specification and Installation Information and Schematic Needed: filter installed in an FT-101ZD Mk 0

开云体育

I have found that a Fox Tango Corp. 89H2.1 IF filter has previously been installed in a used FT-101ZD Mk 0 that I purchased. ?I have no documentation for this installation, and cannot find any?on the internet.? The original Yaesu SSB filter was left mounted on the PB-1963B UNIT (IF board) and the Fox Tango filter mechanically attached to the Yaesu filter case with copper foil tape.? A small PCB; with what looks like a transistor, a resistor, fixed capacitors, a variable capacitor, and inductor; is mounted with double sided tape atop the Fox Tango filter; I assume this is for impedance matching and possibly an amplifier. ?A small gauge red/white wire has been run from underneath the PCB through a mounting hole for the presently empty CW filter space, to the small PCB. ?(I expect that?this wire will need to be rerouted to properly install a CW filter.) ?Coaxial “jumpers” were connected from the Fox Tango filter I/O to test pins atop the IF board. ?

Do you have any information concerning this Fox Tango filter installation-modification, so I can clarify the functionality (either impedance matching or amplifier, or both) of the small circuit atop the filter, and for reference when needed, to understand exactly what has been done? ?In general, I understand an SSB 2.1 KHz wide (@ -6 dB?) IF bandpass (crystal ?) filter has been installed, while I would like to understand why the original filter was left in the radio. ?Is the original SSB filter still functioning in the radio? ?Also, I would like to know insertion loss and all specifications of this 2.1 KHz IF filter. ?A filter response curve plot would be great, expecting that to accompany the written specifications.??The schematic, installation instructions, and filter specifications documentation would clarify, and answer my questions.

Does the variable bandwidth control still function as described in the Yaesu instruction manual, with exception to the maximum bandwidth? ?It is a mystery to me why the original filter was left in the radio, unless it is cascaded with the Fox Tango Corp. filter. ?Is the original SSB IF filter functional in the radio, or has it been electrically isolated and left mounted on the IF board? ?Does anyone have actual experience with using the Fox Tango 2.1 KHz IF filter in operation with the FT-101ZD
who could qualitatively comment on its effectiveness and performance?

Thank you.

Re: Low Receive

Since it is a fast acting event... the?first thing I would do is replace the receive first RF amp.?
Q1 dual gate mosfet.?
3N211 transistors are still easy to find.?
But any decent, four leg dual gate mosfet
of that ilk.. will tell you if it’s bad.?
I doubt the receive line fuse is blown, as others might suggest.?

Noticed recently my receive was dying? My 101 s meter doesnt move unless its a real strong? signal? I notice a signal from someone giving me maybe 2 s units and my other rig shows 10 S units? What should I be looking into . Any help is appreciated

Re: FT-101E Receive Faulty

Well, if one or both power tubes are slightly oscillating from poor neutralization, your receiver could hear it as a carrier or the bizarre harmonics from that oscillation could also leak into your audio chain somehow.?

Hi Noel,

The fault is only on receive, I have not tried to transmit yet.? I have found the info about neutralization, but not sure how this affects receive only.

the RF gain circuit is connected to PC 1181 - MJ(1), PB 1183 -MJ(3), PB 1582- MJ(7). Check the voltage chart.

Roger,
?
Yes, I agree I have to check the circuit before replacing the meter and destroying a new meter.
I will search ebay again and see if I can find the item you mention.
Thanks

Hi Tim,
When I search eBay for FT-101 meter I get about 10 results for S meters including one for $16 delivered. Item # 114863571802 .
Before putting in a good meter suggest checking the IC current measurement section resistors first.

While?evaluating?an old rig for a friend, I discovered the meter in a FT-101E is not working.
I found using a millivolt source and series current limiting resistor that the meter coil is open.
Substituting my Fluke on the 300mv range I was able to get readings, although it is difficult to
correlate them to what they would be on an analog meter.
?
I could not find? specs on what the micro amp rating?for the meter.
?
Searching epay, I found rigs to be parted out but no individual meter movement that has been scavenged
from a rig.
?
I would be interested in finding data about and ?a source for the meter movement.
?
Thanks

Hi Franco,

Many FT-101's have had their Carrier Crystals adjusted to match the aging crystal filter. A different white noise sound when switching from USB to LSB or vice-versa is the usual indication of a problem.

Please see the pdf located in our Files Folder #6 FT-101ZD Carrier Crystals Adjustment. Also good for the original FT-101 series.

I'm not sure, but you can verify the signal amplitude of USB and LSB oscillators Q3 and Q5 at the PB 1184. Are the same?
