Re: WSJT-X not logging into ACL

Hi Bob,

Thanks for your e-mail.? Your rig interface choice is not relevant for WSJT-X to transfer the QSO data.? Your port in WSJT-X and AC Log must have the same port settings.? Please make sure both AC Log and WSJT-X are set to the same port as detailed here:

When set correctly, in AC Log, after you click Listen for WSJT-X, the timer displaying the elapsed seconds will flash green and reset every few seconds.? If that is not happening, you will need to correct your settings.

Enjoy!

Ho Bob,

Thanks for your e-mail.? You'll need to change this value here (PH, CW or DIG):

Re: FW: File Share over Internet Connection

I'm not familiar with OneDrive, but I am doing this with Dropbox without using the networking feature.

I have in the past had two computers, each using separate transceivers, accessing the same log file at the same time during contests (using multi-transmitter classes), and using N3FJP contest?software.? Both computers are on the same network.

I need to observe this again to?verify how it works, but I seem to remember that when both computers are logging at the same time, computer?A might remain preloaded with a contact after telling it to log, appearing not to be responding to the logging command.? It's waiting for computer B to log first.? After computer?B logs, it is followed by computer A logging without the op doing anything more, and both contacts appear in the log.? So, it appears that when using two computers in this way, they log in an orderly fashion.? I don't know if this is an N3FJP feature, how Windows works, or something else.

It's a good idea to back up your log before you test this.? If you create a test log on each computer, and log them, be sure that they are deleted from your log before you upload to LoTW or other similar loggers.

Re: "Networking" via Microsoft 365? #aclog

Hopefully this doesn't devolve into the usual "Windows 11 is bad. OneDrive is bad." discussion. If you don't like them, then turn the VFO and don't use them. You know what they say about opinions.

I searched for info on whether this is feasible and found none, which leads me to suspect there is some fatal flaw in my brainstorm.
It can work, but it can cause problems. OneDrive versioning, which is basically SharePoint versioning, is better than it used to be but you can occasionally still get conflicts. Multiple computers on at the same time probably won't be an issue. But accidentally run multiple copies of a logger at the same time? Things could get weird fast.?

I run N3FJP loggers out of OneDrive and have had zero issues, but I never accidentally leave it open on one computer when I'm using another. I don't run N1MM out of OneDrive because it won't let me.

The easy way in N3FJP ACL to submit your log for 13 Colonies

1. Use Control-Click (on Windows) to select your 13C QSOs in ACL. They do not have to be contiguous in your log. If you have a clean sweep including WM3PEN and the UK and France stations, that's 16 in all.
2. File > Export ADIF > Selected Records and put the file somewhere convenient.
3. Go to . Enter the information in Step 1.
4. In Step 2, Choose the ADIF file you just created.
5. In Step 3, click Generate Log Form.
6. Click the link "Click Here to Download Your Completed PDF Log Form".
7. Print the PDF file and mail it with your check and your return address label to the specified address.

Just to be clear, I’m totally aware of what OneDrive is and what Microsoft does. And, in my case, I don’t do POTA/SOTA, at least not yet. I’ve used Google Drive, Mozy, and OneDrive for my cloud backups. While I respect your opinion (and have avoided all Microsoft products for a while in the past), it didn’t answer my question. I’ve had computers completely crash, along with hard drives and thumb drives that completely crashed. The only thing that saved my data was the fact that the “Documents” folder was also uploaded to OneDrive. I could copy the log to my laptop and then work with it on the fly. But then I’ll have to either export the log as an adif file and import it back in to my desktop, or copy the updated version to my desktop and overwrite the log that’s there. It seems like a lot of extra work just to avoid Microsoft having access to my QSO’s. So, I’ll continue to do what I’m trying to do.

?

Have a great weekend and safe 4th. ?
Patrick.

?

Also, you can go into OneDrive’s settings and uncheck the “Documents” folder if you really don’t want it to be uploaded to the cloud.

OneDrive is NEVER on my computers.? Not only is it so transparent that most folks don't realize their files are no longer on their local computers.? However, when one takes their laptop to do a demonstration in an area without access to the internet or as a POTA, SOTA or whatever OTA, they soon realize they have no log files, or sometimes other critical files on their laptops.? And if the Internet or your home network is down, you are without your files as well.? An easy way to test your setup is to disconnect the LAN cable and turn off WiFi and see what's now broken, then fix it.??

Some friends, once they realize this is to download all their OneDrive files to some new folder on their computer.? Then change the OneDrive password so their computer can no longer access the "cloud" and then put the files in the proper LOCAL folder.? Remember OneDrive gives M$ the ability to scan all your documents easily.??

The solution I found for these OneDrive users was to install any software that uses the "Documents" folder to store things is to create a new folder and install files there instead.? OneDrive does not mess with them -- so far.? I wish that Scott would realize this problem and put his master directory automatically in a folder outside the Documents folder so that they would be stored on the device directly.? His software was started before OneDrive invaded our lives.??

Re: ACL not syncing to eLog: QRZ XML

Re: ACL not syncing to eLog: QRZ XML

Hi Tony,

Thanks for your e-mail.? I'm sorry that you ran into trouble.? I'm pretty sure this is a QRZ problem, likely caused by the slash in your call sign.? AC Log only sends your API Access Key.? It doesn't send your call sign, which is returned by the QRZ server.? Here is the relevant code section and all the data returned from the request:

Inline image

START_DATE=1992-07-06&DXCC_COUNT=275&CONFIRMED=17372&RESULT=OK&BOOKID=120743&END_DATE=2042-10-02&CALLSIGN=N3FJP&BOOK_NAME=N3FJP Logbook&COUNT=80611&OWNER=N3FJP&ACTION=STATUS

All the returned values are stored with your account on QRZ as identified by your API key.

Additionally, the QRZ server in your case reported an internal error.

"STATUS=FAIL&REASON=QRZ Internal Error: Unable to add QSO to database.&EXTENDED=add_qso: book callsign mismatch"

I hope that this helps!

Enjoy!

I also noticed in the log that the response ACL gets from QRZ regarding the logbook callsign is W2_W1LMS, instead of W2/W1LMS. Yet, the stroke appears in the book name.

Please read the list archives on one drive. It is a very intrusive thing once you enable it since all your private data ends up in the cloud. Further getting it turned off and getting data out of the cloud and back local only is very difficult. This of course is only my opinion and others may disagree but I will never use one drive for privacy and data ownership concerns….
