What is the fastest micro SD card in your experience for using every software for emcom and ham radio in one Raspberry with out lags for Sdr, Vara HF, Fldigi, and all the 73 Linux softwares? All this is for operations portable, outdoor. George / HP1GDS

Question for Jason or anyone who knows
6
Jason/Anyone that know. Is Emergency Email server still available for the newest Distros of Pi or other? Also is it a part of 73 Linux? If not I would love to help bring it back. I have a CERT group in our community that would like to bring some local resources in to make this an emergency option. Thanks! Ronny W4TRI

Hello. I'm testing the aprs tool, APSPOT for POTA, SOTA spots. Question: is there a command which brings all spots heard? I know that I can spot my activation, but would like to know if I can receive info of others after their initial spot. Thanks for any thoughts. 73. Jonathan, KK7PW

Installing 73Linux
5
I would like to install 73Linus on an Evolve III laptop. Before I do so, I would like to backup the current Win11 installation so I could reinstall that OS should I want to. Or is it possible to install 73Linux to an external drive and be able to boot into 73Linux when I have need? Dick W4RSS

Switch to 73linux on Pi4?
5
I have a Pi4 that I installed BAP on about a year ago but never finished setting it all up. Now I want to finish up. Am I better off switching to 73linux? Can I just install 73linux to install and manage apps? Do I need to delete the year-old apps if so? I looked through the archives and didn't see a clear answer. Not sure how best to proceed. No interest in VARA, just for WSJTX (latest release candidate), JTDX, Gridtracker, CQRLOG, FLDIGI, and a few other assorted apps. I am thinking I had to do a manual install, maybe even a compile, of either WSJTX or JTDX a year ago? Steve AK0M

Pat Menu - New Menu Item(s) Request
I¡¯ll preface this with ¡°no¡± is a complete response. :) If the answer to any of the following is ¡°no,¡± that¡¯s fine. I give that answer out a lot. Also, I¡¯m not sure if this is the correct forum for making and tracking requests like this. If it is not, please advise and I will request in the appropriate location. In addition to being an amateur radio operator, I am also a SHARES member. On my Mac using AppleScripts, I have written two scripts - one for "Pat_Amateur" and one for "Pat_SHARES." It involves having three .json files - one for my amateur call (w4jbb.json), one for my SHARES call (nnb4jb.json) and the normal config.json file. When I invoke "Pat_Amateur," I copy the w4jbb.json file to config.json and when I invoke "Pat_SHARES," I copy nnb4jb.json to config.json. While it took me a while to figure out *how* do to this because I'm not a coder, it now seems trivial. Other parts of my scripts start Terminal and rigctld and the pat web server. I then start VARA HF (using CrossOver) of which I have two instances - again, one for my amateur call and one for my SHARES call (I probably should have just had one instance but we don't use CW ID in SHARES on Winlink and I couldn't figure out how to turn that off using one instance of VARA-HF in CrossOver). Item Request #1: Would it be possible to do something similar using Pat Menu in 73Linux? Using Pat, I *really* miss the address book and I have *no* idea how to set about doing this in AppleScripts... I don't even know where to start. Item Request #2: Would it be possible to add an address book using scripting in Linux for Pat Menu? I did ask on the Pat group if an address book had been... ahem... addressed but I have yet to receive a response. Item Request #2.5: In lieu of #2, could you add a script to Pat Menu that invoked ICS 213 with specific addresses already filled in and then I fill in the pertinent information for a Net Report? (That may be a big ask. I know in RMS Express, the ICS 213 form, once filled in, remembers previous entries in those fields. It may be the same way in Pat. Yesterday was the first time I'd filled out ICS 213 using Pat). Item Request #3: In addition to getting a weather report via GPS, could you add a button that just used GPS coordinates if known? That may be there but I've somehow missed it. Regards, Joel - W4JBB

QDX Low Audio
Hi All, I recently built a QDX and have been trying to get it to work with 73Linux. I have a nagging low audio issue that I can't seem to work through. I have been assured by Hans, the designer of the QDX, that it is absolutely a software issue and not hardware. I have adjusted the Pulse Audio sliders all to 100% and there is still not enough volume to "drive" the transmitter. I have adjusted the ALSA Mixer via the CLI as well with no luck. Anybody have an idea of where else to look? Thanks in Advance, Mark KC6UXQ

How does one bring 73 Linux apps up to date?
3
Several of the apps in my iteration of 73 Linux are sadly out of date. Is there a way to update them? Several of the more popular applications have had major improvements and/or bug fixes. Specifically, FLDIGI, FLRIG, WSJT-X. It is always a good idea to run the current General Availability (GA) releases in order to stay fully compatible with everyone else. Another case in point it HAMLIB, which is critical to the operation of FLDIGI and/or FLRIG. Thanks for any ideas on this. I hope 73 Linux is capable of staying current with today's General Availability releases without having to resort to acquisition of source code and manual compilation. Best regards, Gary, K7EK

Can't get rig to engage with Pat Winlink session
15
I am running Linux Mint Xfce and just loaded 73 Linux. When I try to make a connection with Pat Winlink the modem opens (vara) and Pat Winlink opens but the rig (IC7300) does not engage. I also have to manually set the frequency. This is error message I get in black window on Pat Winlink: QSY failed: unable to get rig frequency: dial tcp 127.0.0.1:4532: connect: connection refused I am sure it is a setting problem but not sure how to fix. Any help would be appreciated. Scott KG5VPF

73Linux New Install - lots of Gdk-CRITICAL messages - and after install no 73Linux background no WSJT-X in menu
8
I am running build-a-pi on another RPi - so maybe my expectations are messed up. On a RPi 4 - running latest 32bit OS After installing OS on SD card - and doing apt update and apt upgrade, I download and ran 73Linux. Lots of Gdk-CRITICAL errors. After reboot - there is a wide (maybe 1/4 screen) black vertical stripe. (is that where CONKY should be?() There is no 73Linux background image. And i selected the Raspberry symbol (top left) to see the menu items. I had installed perhaps 15 items - many are missing. In particular WSJT-X is not on the Ham menu. FLRIG does work- and talks to my radio. Pat menu works (up to a point) - fired up Packet modem and get an error - but I bet I have more configuring to do to get that to work.

Pat - configuration - set port and rig control - clicked update - reboot - port did not change - rig control doesn't seem to work...
4
Pi4, Bookworm, 32bit, latest 73Linux. DigiRig talking to Yaesu 857D WSJT-X works... Trying to configure Pat Pat telnet works Trying to run Packet... In Pat Menu - Configuration - I set Rig Control to yes. And changed the Pat Port to 5000. I hit update. I reboot. I run Flrig I start the Packet modem - it appears to start... Browser opens - and tries to connect to port 5000. Fails. I try port 8080 - and it works - hmmm I try to connect to my W6SON-10 - radio never goes in to transmit. Feels like PAT PORT change didn't take, and Rig Control in configuration didn't take. I go back to pat menu and look at the configuration - the rig control is set to yes, and port to 5000. For sure port didn't take effect. Maybe rig control didn't (or I may have some other issue with rig control). Jim KM6GUO

ssh has stopped working - I did something (obviously) but not sure what. Both /etc/ssh/sshd_config.d and /etc/ssh/ssh_config.d directories empty

Configuring a new RPi 4 - bookworm - 73Linux. Earlier today I was able to ssh from it and to it (Which got me out of one bind). But now it (and my older RPi 4) both have ssh hanging: sudo ssh -v pi@... OpenSSH_8.4p1 Debian-5+deb11u3, OpenSSL 1.1.1w 11 Sep 2023 debug1: Reading configuration data /etc/ssh/ssh_config debug1: /etc/ssh/ssh_config line 19: include /etc/ssh/ssh_config.d/*.conf matched no files debug1: /etc/ssh/ssh_config line 21: Applying options for * debug1: Connecting to 10.24.122.137 [10.24.122.137] port 22. And it hangs there... ARGH! Theories - suggestions? Jim KM6GUO

TQSL not installing from 73linux
7
The title. I tried installing tqsl from 73linux twice, each time it seemed to go through the motions but didn't install. Any suggestions? My next step would be try installing from repo, but would prefer to stay in the 73linux framework if possible.

I am about to set up a new Raspberry Pi - which OS is best for 73Linux
2
I have been using Build-A-Pi on a couple of Raspberry Pi's, and am setting up a new Pi 4 that will travel with my KX3. I will run Pat and WSJT-X primarily on this Pi. Hoping to get VARA running on this Pi. 32 or 64? Bookworm? Now I have to remember how to image a new headless Pi - get it on the network, etc.

Recommendation Linux bistro for HP Stream 7 tablet
3
Hi I have an HP Stream 7 tablet computer that I would like to put Linux onto. Any recommendations for Linux distro that would produce a functional tablet OS? Several years ago, I did manage to put an Ubuntu version on it, but it did not really work well. For example, the screen would not change orientation when the tablet was rotated (likely missing some drivers). Currently, I have Windows 10 installed, but it's not really useful as it's slow and really doesn't function well. I was cleaning out the shack and found it again and was thinking maybe now there might be a version of linux that might work. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you. Larrie AF7NU

Evolve III gps x6100
9
So I'm have problems getting my evolve III to play nice with the gps. The problem is the 6100 uses 2 ports acm0 and acm1 the gps also uses acm0 and locks up the computer. I have tried all kinds of things. The gps works fine to set time. But as soon as I plug in the radio it locks up because there is a conflict with those ports. I have the gpsd set by id but it doesn't seem to matter. I use Debian 12 on the evolve it is one of the newer ones without the SIM card slot. Even starting the radio and then the gps does not work. Any ideas would be good my next option is build a pi time server with the gps. But if I don't have to do that it would be nice. Thank you Bill kM6TAU

73Linux on orangepi zero v3 4G with debian 12 (bookworm) xfce
6
Has anyone tried installing 73Linux on it yet? The low power drain is nice. My board is happy so far doing the basics, though a bit choppy with full screen video. I bought this cheap, with the big heat sink, for small package qrp pota type digital mode operating, and am now ready to try installing some 73Linux software. I will VNC into it with a tablet so that the one USB port (without the USB hat) is available for the digirig interface. So the next step is a VNC server. Recommend any particular VNC server? Any issues from experience that I should avoid? Will the Debian distro be significantly different from ubuntu, in where 73Linux aims to put things in the file system? The github page seems to suggest that ubuntu has been tested. What about the xfce Debian 12? Thanks in advance, 73 Karl S K4GMV

General Linux question. Linux Mint 22
4
I¡¯m running Virtual Radar Server a long with Dump1090 on my new install of Linux Mint 22. Both programs work fine but the on the GUI for virtual radar server none of the text on the UI buttons display the text that is supposed to be on them. The program worked fine on my previous install of LM 21.3 and it works fine on my Pi. It¡¯s running under mono and the pi has the same version of mono installed so it most likely isn¡¯t a mono issue. It must be something specifically with LM22 I¡¯m thinking that the font that is required isn¡¯t available on mint 22 but was available on mint 21.3. I¡¯m kinda stumped on how to get it to work, any insight would be appreciated
