Re: Direwolf/YAAC

I forgot to add that I am using an Anytone 5888uv and a digirig. I also noticed that the volume of the received packet coming from the UV-pro is lower than what is coming from the other radios

Re: VARAFM with Yaesu FTM500 video question

You won't be able to read the frequency for the FTM500 as it doesn't have CAT control. However, PTT can be accomplished. There are different methods depending on your sound card interface. Which interface are you using between the radio and the computer?

Direwolf/YAAC

Edited

I’m setting up APRS on my laptop running Linux mint set up with 73 Linux. I’m using Direwolf and YAAC. It seems to decode everything except beacons from aprsdroid using a B-tech UV-pro with the Bluetooth TNC. ? ?When my digipeater running on the raspberry PI repeats the beacon from aprsdroid the laptop will decode it but it will not decode it directly. The laptop will decode from aprsdroid on a different tablet using a uv5r and a b tech k1 cable, it decodes from my windows desktop using pinpoint APRS Direwolf and a uv5r with a digirig. Am I missing something?

VARAFM with Yaesu FTM500 video question

Trying to set up CAT controlled radio with VARA fm in Linux Mint. Do I use CAT setting in VARA or Comm?? It seems to be doing dual duty on with FLrig. Tried to disable FLrig (RIG control) in pat config but then PAT doesn't read frequency of radio nor give me a green freq indication in channel setup.?

I also note after setting up comm ports properly that the transmit is picking up audio of my laptops internal mic instead of from VARA through my rigirig. I switched setting to Intel PCH and it works as it should. Something is switched up in WINE I believe.

Android gpsRelay app

I have been using this app as a replacement for the gpsd forwarder?app.

What is nice is you can set up multiple hosts you want to relay to with the option to turn?off/on as needed? the phone and other hosts running gpsd must be on the same network. Each of my gpsd hosts's /etc/default/gpsd file is setup with DEVICES="udp:*:9999".

On the phone press the?+ to add a remote host.
Choose udp and put the remote host IP with the port you used in the
gpsd configuration file on the remote host.

Try it and see if you like it.

Download the Version 2.0 apk file and install it on your phone.

Re: 73Linux - can't get packet to work #rpi #winlink #73linux #digirig #direwolf

Good morning,
Sorry for the delay; life has been too busy as of late.
My original issue was that direwolf wasn't communicating with the digirig/AT778UV. I did a reinstall of the Raspberry Pi OS/73Linux but found that I didn't have in the direwolf.conf file the PTT set so that it was pointed to the correct USB (in this case PTT /dev/ttyUSB0 RTS). I think you said that in one of your videos - brain twitch on my part!
?
Everything works great!
?
Thanks - love the videos!?

How to install TQSL with Mint?

Lots of problems trying to get TQSL installed.
OS Linux Mint on a 64 bit laptop.
On my Pi there was a script to install TQSL but it is not showing in Mint (and it's not working on the Pi).
I'm not that well versed in Linux to install from the ARRL download..

Re: Winlink Express on 73Linux

I am no Linux expert but if you can find the command that is supposed to run when you double-click the icon and try it in the terminal, you will probably get an error.
?
You can search that error online and (hopefully) figure out what's broken or missing.

Winlink Express on 73Linux

I successfully updated VARA HF and VARA FM on my Raspi 4b/73 Linux using Jason's YT video guide.? I was also able to successfully install Winlink Express and VARAC.? Both applications start.? I still must try them out on my rig once I get the Pi to my shack.? This inspired me.
?
I took an old Lenovo laptop that was running Windows 10 and outfitted it with Ubuntu 22.04 LTS.? For some unknown reason version 24.0x LTS would not install.? Oh well.? I then installed 73Linux.? I had to re-install Ubuntiu because I use a foreign language (German), and 73Linux cannot yet handle that.? So I re-installed with the (US) English version.? I then had to disable Wayland and enable the X11 graphic display.? Then, everything worked fine.? VARA and VARA HF installed without a hitch.? I then tried to install Winlink Express using the the procedure I used on the Pi.? The program actually installed.? It will however not start.? The mouse symbol rotates for a couple of minutes like it doe for any program that is starting, but then there is nothing.? My guess is that some program file(s) (dll?) may be missing in Winlink Express or Wine.? Does anyone have an idea what this may be?

Thanks for your response Jason.? I was informed by Denis at Digirig that I can leave the rig open on FLrig and select BOTH under Generic PTT.? I need to fire up the Pi and give it a try.?

?

Regarding your setup.? Hope do you change the FLrig prompt with PAT winlink to not use FLrig?

Hey Jeremy, I used the signalink with the 2980. The signalink has VOX built in and handles the PTT in my setup. I don't necessarily recommend the signalink but it was what I had on hand when I built mine. You should be able to use the digirig and define the PTT in the direwolf.conf file for packet work. This would skip rigctl all together. The PTT line in direwolf would be:

PTT /dev/ttyUSB? RTS

?

The "?" will be the number assigned to your digirig. To find exactly where the digirig attached, run:

ls -l /dev/serial/by-id

?

The best place for config help with the setup is the BPQ forum. /g/bpq32/topics Those guys are the masters of the BPQ config file. I only know enough to be dangerous :-)

Anyone that has an ancient FT-100(D), like me, and DigiRig, running Flrig/Pat/VARA HF, I have listed the settings in the rig so VARA HF will work.

Re: Starting from scratch again - part 4

I still use VNC (Real, tight, x11, ultra, whatever works with whichever distro I'm using) for all my internal setups. Linux PCs get x11vnc, Pis get RealVNC through raspi-config. I use RealVNC-Viewer on my 2 laptops to get into everything else. I won't use 'Connect' or the paid RealVNC to use their servers instead of mine.

Nice, wish I had the experience with the hardware TNCs – very cool!? Closest I ever got was a 14.4 baud modem on my IBM compatible.?

?

I’ve set up the bpq.cfg file per KM4ACK’s video – “How to set up a Winlink Gateway on a Pi.”? I’m getting a Telnet error.? Not sure what port it should be set on.? He doesn’t mention it in the video and it auto populates.? I think it might be conflicting with port setting in PAT config settings?

?

I just set up Winlink Packet, packet settings as I’m trying to expand my capabilities as a Winlink SysOp.? I chose Direwolf as my software TNC.? Would you happen to know the Direwolf settings for a IC-2100 type radio using a Digirig?? Radio goes straight into transmit but won’t unkey.? So something is triggering PTT within Direwolf.? I just don’t have the settings correct.

?

Thanks,

Ok. You're using the Mic and Speaker. You have some audio adjusting to do.

Playback is TX

Run squelch open. Adjust the playback so it's not overdriving the radio.?

Have you loaded Direwolf??

PTT=CM108

There's another setting in Direwolf that lets Flrig PTT the radio using the digirig?to PTT the radio.

The IC 2100, if I'm not mistaken, has a 3.5 plug for programming. I never thought of using that plug for FLrig. If the radio vfo can be used, one would have to make a patch cable to run the data on the sleeve to tip. We had to do this for IC 746 way back when.
