anyone interested in gears? 4
I first saw this film in a High School Shop Class more decades ago then I care to mention and thought it lost to the sands of time. A gal named Fran has a library of these old 16mm films and is digitizing them Check it out here: https://youtu.be/2mWDUFftUcs -Bart

An interesting video 7
I found a video of the USS Olympia’s on a ship machine shop. I do not think the lathe is Dalton, but, the Olympia was a US Cruiser from the 1890s and the machine shop is a typical line shaft shop with a beautiful shaper he runs but does not explain. Anyway thought folks might find it of interest: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXRusqwcNVk -Bart

dalton lathe
Morning. A little while ago I came across a small lathe that was tucked in the back corner of a deceased garage. I have been looking for a lathe and this is the closest I could get at the time. It appears to be a Dalton lot5 number 23. According to the dalton site I found it was built around 1921-22. I have remounted it on a rolling cabinet and am going to replace the motor and drive belt. Being that this unit is a little smaller than I wanted, could any of you knowledgeable people tell me what kinda value this lathe has. Would be willing to do some swapping to get the size I want. I did notice that the belt tensioner is not factory, and the large drive pulley has a crack in one of the spokes. I could get pictures if I can figure out the system on here. Thanks for the help.

Manual for Dalton Lot 2 14
Hi, Has anyone got a manual for the Lot 2 lathe? I’ve completely forgotten how to put the change gears on and what the configuration is to cut threads. Help much appreciated. A close up photo of the default wouldn’t go a miss. Marc A Bradley Facebook.com/stiffstatues

Lot 4. #112 3
Ive had my Lot 4 for 10 years now and while it’s far from the prettiest machine it has made a ton of parts for me over the years. I finally have upgraded to a 10” atlas and retired my Dalton. If anyone is in the northeast around Albany NY and looking for a machine let me know. I would hate to just put the machine on a shelf to live out its life. Lee

Setscrew question 3
Good morning all. It's been a long time but I have gotten my Dalton back together, but I have one setscrew that is on the bench by it's self. It may be from another project but, does anyone know if there is one of these on the dalton that I forgot.?

New member 2
My name is Ricky Mullen. I have just acquired a lot 4 lathe, bought at auction. It’s previous owner, Vernon Price, may have been a member here, as the lathe came with a folder that referenced this group. I previously owned a Brown & Sharpe No. 0 turret lathe but sold it in a move before I finished it. I would like to continue the restoration of this lathe. So I’ll be learning what I can. Thanks for having me, and I look forward to this new adventure. Get Outlook for iOS

Dalton Lot 4 2
Hi everyone I've just inherited a Dalton Lot 4 from my father in law. I've cleaned it up a little and it is numbered 424. An agricultural engineer used it before it sat in a farm shed for years getting slowly forgotten about. As far as I know he had it shipped over to the UK many years ago, and I guess it was him who made the stand and drive arrangement. I've never used a lathe but have always wanted to! I am on a farm myself and for simple tasks i'm sure it will be handy. No Dalton change gears came with it nor a tool holder. 2 gears did come with it - both adapted by inserting a metal sleeve to reduce the bore of the gears. Now a few questions!: Can anyone recommend a tool holder which will achieve the correct working height? What change gears would have come with the lathe - is finding gears from different machines and sleeving them to fit a solution? Any information / help to get me started with this piece of history would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Nathan

Need a refresher on threading with Dalton 6 B-4 14
Hi! It's been a few years since I did any threading. I recall the fundamentals, like grinding the tool to 60 degrees, zero rake, center of the work and squared with it. I have all the quick-change gears and know how to set them up. What I'm particularly rusty on is marking the chuck, the lead screw(?), and the bed under the carriage. If I recall, every time i cut a thread, I would pull out the tool with the cross-feed, pull it back to a certain mark on the bed or on the screw, line up the mark on the chuck with something or other, then do something with the crossfeed and compound (I believe the crossfeed goes back to the same position, while the compound is set to 30 or 60 degrees, and goes in a certain distance with each cut). As you can see, my memory of this is really, really faulty. Help please!

I have a Dalton Six B-4, need spindle thread size 30
Hi! I've been out of commission for a while from the group, but now that I'm on the mend, I have some projects to do. The first one is turning a .170 pin down to .154, and I need to instal a precision chuck that will grab something that small (It's about 1.5 inches long, and I have to turn all but about a quarter inch of it down. Where could I find somewhat inexpensive chucks that will do this, or adapters and a chuck, and what are the spindle dimensions, nominally. I'm measuring the outside of the threads with a mitutoyo dial caliper and getting 1.240, the register is 1.250, and the threads appear to be 1.250 (gotta find my thread counter), but I know this is a rough way to do this.

#4 dalton lathe 17
Hello. Im new to dalton lathes ive used some more modern ones but i recently was given a dalton. It runs well i had to put a new motor on it, make a tool post, live centre ect it came with nothing but a box of gears. Im trying to find the best oil for the babbit bearings and wondering if there is a trick to slowing down the oil loss. I have no oil caps and am concerned that they will get damaged?
