Yet one more ATU-10 PCB
5
#ATU-10
Hi, I have designed a yet one David's (N7DDC's) ATU-10 PCB based on Glenn's (VK3PE's) schematic (v1.32). It fits 100x88mm enclosure. I want to release it for as an open source for JLCPCB ordering (SMD assembled) as is and later use the design for an internal ATU for QMX+. See my ABS solution here: (https://github.com/AC8L/QMX_Plus_Autotuner_Internal_Battery_Speaker). Since JLCPCB have PIC16F1454 SMD completely out of stock and only handful of PIC16F18877 - I used through hole versions of both to be installed in sockets. Before placing a test order of 5 (costs 134$ plus shipment from China to VA) I want to clarify some confusions I had while reviewing the original design. I hope Glenn and Dave will be able to review my KiCAD schematic (attached). These are my confusions: 1. Should COMM_C indeed go pins 7&2 of relays, not 4&5 pins? 2. Should each L indeed be connected to pins 5&4, not 7&2? 3. There is only one pair of electrolytic tantalum caps C78 and C79 connected to S1 source of driving FET's SW8 and SW9. Is the PCB size the only concern why they are not placed to every source of driving FET's. And, does just than one pair make a difference? 4. Should not relays have heavy caps on COMMON side also (like C78 and C79) since voltage has to be reversed to switch the relay? 5. Glenn's schematic does not mention pins CC1 and CC2 of USB connector. Should not they be connected to ground through 5k1 resistors to communicate the cable plug event to the charger? -- 73, Sardar (AC8L, 4K6SA, VA3DUA).

ATU Ticking Noise on receive.
4
HI all, I'm in need of some advice please, I purchased an ATU 100 from Ali Express, I have had it for about 5 months, on the front, it has 1 green tune/reset button, a red on/off rocker switch and a USB C charger socket, it has an internal battery. From the first day of use, it has a ticking sound that can be heard through the receiver only, it is present throughout most of the HF range, it is regular and does not change in frequency, the ATU100 unit itself, makes no audible clicking noise (except when tuning and you get the relays clicking), so the noise can only be heard through the receiver, apart from this, the ATU100 works very well. For months, I have thought it was local interference and didn't suspect the ATU100 whatsoever, the only thing I have had to do so far was replace the OLED display which went wrong, I do not use the ATU100 whilst it's charging as this also creates noise, since becoming more active on HF, the clicking is becoming more of an issue when listening to weak signals, I have used a manual ATU to confirm that the clicking dissapears when not using the ATU100. Has anyone else experienced this problem and if so, how did you cure the problem?. Thank you for taking the time to read my post. 73 Pete

pickit2 questions
9
I just built an ATU-100 and it powered up fine. I wound the transformer for 5:1 to use it for QRP. I am struggling to edit the EEPROM settings with a pickit2. I am using pickitminus software (the only software that could see the pickit2). When I read from the ATU I get all zeroes in both the Program Memory and EEPROM Data sections. If I edit and write to the ATU it appears to work, but when I reread from the ATU it is still all zeroes. Do I need to do something with the software to get the pickit2 to read/write properly? Would I be better off with a pickit3? Thanks. Mike, KL7MJ

New builder programming help needed
Hello. I just built my ATU-100 kit, and it appeared to work when I powered it up, but I want to use it for QRP (I wound the binocular transformer at 5:1). I have a pickit2. The only software that seems to work for me is pickitminus - the regular pickit2 software complains about a mising .dat file and can't see the picket. When I read from the ATU I get all zeroes in both the Program Memory and the EEPROM Data sections. I am able to edit the EEPROM Data section, using values from When I write to the ATU it appears to work, but when I reread from the ATU the values are still all zeroes. Is the pickit2/software an issue? Can I update the pickit2 software or am I better just getting a pickit3? Have I wiped out the data on the ATU? Thanks. Mike, KL7MJ

Charging Led ATU-100-0a
4
It seems that my led that indicates the charging status is reversed . It seems to be green when charging and red when complete. I was testing out the tuner after changing the tuning threshold, only changed one setting, with my 705 on 30m and 40m ft8 , ran it for a couple of hours , it worked flawlessly . After I was done I plugged in the USB-C the led was green, when I got up this morning the led is red. This was the first time I used the tuner, when I first received the tuner I had plugged it in , the Led was green, so I assumed it was charged. Is there any documents regarding the operation of the tuner? Any thoughts Thanks Steve VE1SK

ATU-100-0A
16
I just received my ATU-100-0A for my IC705, even at 10w , it will not tune. Yes I have external power on the 705. I have tried the tuner on my FT891 and it tunes fine even down to 8w. I understand that the firmware can be adjusted ? Can I do this through the USB-C port? Or should I have bought a different version, I wanted to have options incase I needed it for something else. Thanks Steve VE1SK

How to verify ATU-10 v1.6 firmware changes?
4
I am trying to set up an ATU-10 by modifying the firmware to set the min tuning power to .4 watts, set the Delta SWR to 2.0, and set Auto mode Off. I have modified the firmware hex file, recalculated the checksum, and saved the new file. The new hex file has been loaded to the ATU-10 but the changes do not appear to have taken effect. How can I tell if the new firmware loaded? Is there a way to change the displayed firmware version to display something like v1.6a? Does the firmware file name have to stay the same as the original? Thanks for help! Dave, N4ELM

Can IC-705 wake up powered off ATU-10?
6
Hello, Recently bought an ATU-10 on AliExpress, running firmware 1.6. It works well with the IC-705, except for one issue: when the ATU-10 goes into power-off mode after being inactive, the IC-705’s tuning request doesn’t wake up the tuner. The IC-705 recognizes the tuner as available, but the tuner doesn’t respond to the Tune command. Is this expected behavior, or is there a setting to enable wake-up? 73, Gabe

PIC Question (UPDATE)
60
I have a second ATU-100 I use in my motorhome. I retrieved it and plugged its OLED into this nonfunctioning tuner. The OLED would not power up. No lights at all. Went ahead and copied the firmware from the good tuner and downloaded into the bad tuner. Still doesn't do anything. I will have to double check everything and look for a power problem, or? I do hear a relay click when I turn on the power. Not ruling out a bad 16F1938. If all else fails, I will find someone local that has the capabilities to solder a new one in. If I get it working, I will update and with the resolution. I do appreciate the help. Thank you!! Bill

ATU-100 OLED
3
Anyone got an OLED display surplus to their needs. I want one for use in troubleshooting my remote ATU-100. It came without a display because it was bought to use as a remote tuner. Don't care what size it is, etc. I can't find just a display for sale anywhere. Thank you, Bill

PIC Question
7
I have used my PICKIT 3 to program the PIC in my ATU-100. I erased it first then after downloading Version 3.2 of the firmware I programmed it. It passed Verify and the Blank Check. I made the changes to set it up for Automode. My question is if the PIC is bad would I be able to program it as described? My tuner doesn't respond the RF. It doesn't attempt to tune. I do hear the relay click when I turn on the power. Thank you, Bill

Is there a manual for version 3.2 of the firmware? I want to change the code, so my tuner operates automatically for remote use. Bill

ATU-100 and Pickit 3
2
Found a header connector that I could use to connect the Pickit 3 to my ATU-100 but get an Invalid Device error message. The 16F1938 was in the Pickit 3 drop down for ICs. I connected the Pickit 3 to the ATU-100 header by using the CLK pin as a reference. So, the CLK pin on both devices is first connected together and with the other pins going in line. Has anyone encountered this before? What voltage should I use? Bill

ATU-100 Ext 3.2 w/Yellow Power Reading
3
#atu-100
Have a 3.2 kit purchased from amazon. On boot it shows 3.2, and the power measurement is yellow, but youtubes of 3.2 show it as the same blue as the other values. Reading the unit with PicKit shows it is protected. Is the power yellow on the official 3.2 from github? I would like to not lose the yellow power as it looks nice, but with it protected I cannot view/verify the cells.

Programming cables
My ATU-100 never came with the cables because it was used as a remote with no display. Where can I get the proper cables for it, and can the same cables be used to program it? Thanks, Bill

ATU-10 source PCB etc
Hi Bob, sorry for delay. I had no issue building several ATU-10's, for parts. The relays are expensive if bought from Digikey etc but there was an ebay vendor selling them cheap too. On my PCB I changed it to use the larger sized Micros in place of the originals very small devices. If you are interested, I have spare: AO604 IC ( enough to do the pcb plus a few spares.) IM41 relays the two PIC devices Note though that if I add the above parts I will have to send the package as a parcel and as you may appreciate, the PO charges silly prices for posting a parcel. I normally just send a PCB only in an envelope for about AUD$5, although strictly speaking I shouldn't do that as its non documents. So far I had no issues though. The AO604 devices cost me AUD$0.20 each. The IM41 3volt relays $1 each. The cheapest I can find on ebay is https://www.ebay.com/itm/324000280230?_skw=im41+relay&itmmeta=01JB8FVGX2KV9TMQA50WFSAB7D&hash=item4b6febeea6:g:KeAAAOSw9tpbYRZk&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA4HoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKkrmAdsuN9N%2FFnj83V1uSvWTcveB9Z0KHzyFguu6ysBcrNSfpbOHA7LE8rQOnHboofaw4utZdkxH1mGXYx53NGdmJ4%2FopkMmjqWz4YLEI5MJ4S%2FhnMuY8J0b%2BA1uIvCCPauckQk6AVmGej%2FBAyfy6u%2B%2F0uVbk%2FzSOIASkPih5JyVpPvxJijSuSkrpLyf99UpP9%2F10HADWwAdhimq9gJRsuxhWovSP2ab6lHiTooT3R0Kjclj9sDr3Y90KA7Gt8iR2KosSbdIYbgtXTnEYyoXID2%7Ctkp%3ABFBM0I7uj9pk Maybe better for you to buy relay from ebay. The PIC's I will give you, I don't recall what I paid for them. I should have the little PB switch and USB-C connector also, free. AS far as I can tell from the local PO web site, postage would be AUD$14.25 but I won't really know until i go there. Glenn On 27/10/2024 10:38 am, Bill KA0B wrote:
