PIC Question (UPDATE)

I have a second ATU-100 I use in my motorhome.? I retrieved it and plugged its OLED into this nonfunctioning tuner.? ?The OLED would not power up.? No lights at all.? Went ahead and copied the firmware from the good tuner and downloaded into the bad tuner.? Still doesn't do anything.? I will have to double check everything and look for a power problem, or?? I do hear a relay click when I turn on the power.
?
Not ruling out a bad 16F1938.? If all else fails, I will find someone local that has the capabilities to solder a new one in.? If I get it working, I will update and with the resolution.
?
I do appreciate the help.? Thank you!!

hi Bill,
?
what's the power consumtion of the device? normaly not more than 100mA on idle state.
Is the 78L05 still alive? not too hot, 5V at output? The relays are powered directly from input 12V...

I forgot: You have to change the cells 00 and 01 for use with device cell 00 to 78 and cell 01 to 04 or 05

I will have to check.? I will let you know.
Bill

7805 is ok.? No signs of overheating.? Reads 4.995vdc.
Bill

Those changes fixed the OLED.? But the tuner is still inoperable.? No reaction at all when RF is applied.
Bill

hi Bill,
last for today...
Now you have to make some measurements while applying RF to the AT...
I made some pictures some days in the past for a similar case...
First: PCB components view:
You see the testing points..
And now what to measure with applied 10W RF with multimeter, abt 50kOhms /V:
?
?
Good luck!

hi Bill,
looking at your foto, I will ask: get's it stuck to this display, no further change? It normally changes to something like that:
?
?
If it doesn't change, I guess a problem with the PIC...

Yes, after saying what version the firmware is and that it's a N7DDC tuner it went to this screen.? When applying RF this screen does not change.

I also thought I could use my oscilloscope and trace the signal through the tuner.

Hi are the fwd/rev diodes installed correctly,

hi Bill,
I sent you a PM..
look after it!

Where are the PMs located within the Group?? I searched but can't find them.
Bill

They came preinstalled and the tuner worked fine for a long time.
Bill

I sent it to your private mail (PM)...

Can't find any PMs on the Group.? Send it to my email ko4nrbs@....

TP1- Tested at 0 volts.
R3 and R4 both read 40K ohm.

I have the tuner in line with my power meter.? No power coming into the power meter thru the tuner.? When the tuner is in line with the antenna no signals can be heard.

I did it (E-Mail) with two high-resolution pictures of PCB to show the signal path through the AT.?
I guess, that a wire is broken at the input, perhaps the wire through the binocular has bad soldering. Also a short at the inptut connector could be possible.?
R3 and R4 must have double of? R20 and R21. Do you measure both resistors both ways to 40k¦¸? Notice, there is in parrallel the input of the PIC and the Diode with the secondary of the transformer.?
?
Let me know.

I didn't receive the email.? Please try again.? ko4nrbs@...

I have been looking for a broken wire, etc. but haven't found anything yet.? I do agree that something is preventing the RF from going through the circuit.? The pictures showing the signal path through the tuner would be great.

The resistors measure 40k one way and 67k the other way.

Thank you for your patience and assistance.

hi Bill,
ther seems a problem with your e-mail..?
so I post the pictures as added pictures at the forum.

Those are really helpful pictures!!? Thank you for taking the time to prepare and post them.
?
I will use the pictures and trace a signal through the tuner.? Where the signal stops should be the problem.
?
I added a folder in my computer and have been saving all the information you have given me there.? Investigating this ATU-100 problem will better prepare me when I build the ATU-1000.

Bill

I was able to trace a signal from my signal generator from the input all the way to the output.? The DC power was on.

Looks like the PIC may be bad.? It's not initiating tuning when RF is applied.

Bill,
you have to check the functionality of the diodes. If there goes RF through, you must find a voltage at the forward diode D2, i.e. abt 2.4V while applying 10W of RF. If there is nothing, the diode has passed away¡ If you connect the AT reverse, same at D1. Also faulty winding on the transformer possible!!!
