where to find software that works for the pickit 3 programmer?
23
I am frustrated trying to find software for the pickit-3 programmer that works with the ATU 100. I am trying to change 3 cells so that it works for QRP, my ATU works for power in the 10 watt and up range. any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks, Paul K0ZYV.

A good site for building instructions. + more.
http://ha3hz.hu/hu/home/top-nav/12-seged-berendezesek/13-n7ddc-atu-100 Not one for buying much from the Chinese these days but this one is hard to pass up. I ordered a PIC 3.5 from someone in the states and plan to use it Microchips programming software. Someone is selling the kit a kit with the chip already soldered, programmed and with the proper display. You must change a few hex bits in the hex program to switch between different type of displays. All well documented in the instructions. I will be building mine with 2kv capacitors. The gum drop mylar type as to except a little high wattage. 73's Ron W4DNQ

This one comes with display. First thing I will do is see if the microprocessor comes programmed. I will build this one first as I have two of the others. https://www.ebay.com/itm/100W-OLED-ATU100-automatic-antenna-tuner-DIY-KITS-1-8-50-MHz-0-96-inch/274388285817?hash=item3fe2d0f979:g:35QAAOSwtnheyP72 ___________________________________________________________________________________ This one does not come with a display and not sure if programmed: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1-8-50MHz-Automatic-Antenna-Tuner-ATU-100mini-by-N7DDC-7x7-for-SDR-DIY-Kit/383512712303?hash=item594b23946f:g:mnYAAOSwUyZenpiX Programmer to either program the entire chip or change a hex bit as per your display type as per instructions found in the N7DDC github files. A special thanks to N7DDC for all of his hard work. Latest version is v3.0. https://www.ebay.com/itm/For-PICKit3-Kit-Programmer-with-USB-cable-wires-Pic-Kit-3-and-ICSP-Socket/224046080134?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 I use CHIPQUIK SMDLTLFT4 flux and the smallest 60/40 solder I can find. Just putting a tiny drop of solder on your tip will do. You do not have to worry about burning up the solder core flux as you already have flux on the chip pin. Not absolutely necessary, but I use a stereo microscope that holds the part still and makes things a lot easier. Photo's to follow which can be found in the photo section, as building occurs. I will also be adding notes as I move forward. The board is so small it could be mounted into any amplifier project. 73's Ron W4DNQ

For a Non-Kit Version !

Looks good, has a nice case and is ready to go. Coaxial power connector instead of a USB power port. https://www.ebay.com/itm/ATU-100-100W-Antenna-Tuner-/133269958351 Looks like he is building this with a special case. Get one if you do not want to build one. I have three to build, but only because I enjoy the challenge and have the time. I also think we will see more built units coming soon. Ron/W4DNQ

Newly constructed ATU-100 - no smoke so far!!!
#photo-notice
I just finished putting together an RA0SMS-kitted ATU-100. The T68-2 toroids seem to be the real deal, unlike some of my previous Ebay purchases. My only regret is not picking up some thinner solder for the SMT parts, and using too much crazy glue on the toroids... Now to do a little testing and start thinking about an enclosure for an outdoor installation. vy 73 de va3rr

Newly constructed ATU-100 - odd testing results
5
I've been bench testing (ok, kitchen table) my newly constructed ATU-100, kitted by RA0SMS. I was comparing the measured inductance with that shown on the 1602 LCD by connect my DE-5000 across the RF input and output, whilst in the simple test mode. Although the LCD counts up normally from 0 to 8.53 uH, my DE-5000 shows some significant anomalies. When increasing inductance step by step, at both 2.20 and 4.50 uH, as shown on the LCD, the inductance falls back to minimum inductance on my DE-5000 LCR meter. It's not until 6.70 uH on the LCD meter that inductance climbs to 8.53 as designed. I thought perhaps it was a cold solder joint, but I've actually checked the voltages on the relays, and relays are not energizing when appropriate. Logically, because I can read both minimum and maximum required inductances on my DE-5000, one distinct possibility that comes to mind is there is a programming error. I'm thinking of making a table to indicate the energized state for each relay relative to the inductance shown on the LCD. I have version 3 of the firmware, ATU-100 EXT with 7 inductors. Before I do so, has anyone else noticed this sort of issue? Tnx in advance de Russ, va3rr

stuck in tune mode
4
Hello I bought a kit and have put it together. I bought min from aliexexpress with all of the surface mount parts pre-soldered and the chip preloaded with Ver 3. Great kit but I am having a problem that I think I am out of ideas on. I put the tuner in Automatic and key the radio and it will read SWR, effiency and power out. It will not actualy tune the antenna. I can put it in test mode and it will go through the relays but I can't get the tuner to tune it. I can key it and it will display tune and stay there until it is reset. I am using a UBITX so the power shouldn't be a problem. I did add the Auto and bypass and tune button. I installed a 104 capacitor across all three switches. Any ideas or suggestions appreciated. 73 Kg4VHV John

learning opportunity.

Hello Group Don was a big help in my previous problem but now the questions are starting to come up. If I put a dummy load on the output of the tuner I get a 1:1 SWR but only a 78% efficiency. I thought a 1:1 was a perfect match and should at least be in the 90s efficiency. I am using a UBITX but on CW the output isn't as high as in USB if you whistle into the radio. The watts also start out at 14W and quickly drop to 3.8w. Might be a quark of the radio but it goes against how I believe CW and SSB work. Now the big one. If I transmit into a dummy load and read 20VDC across a 50ohm load my math tells me I am putting out about 5W. The tuner is telling me that it is about 2.8W. Have I been figuring Watts wrong? Thanks for the help and learning opportunity. 73, John , KG4VHV

Power meausurment calibration
5
Hello all, I tried to understand the power calibration on the SWR bridge But it is unclear what the reading is I have KX3 set to 10 watt and connected a dummy load as antenna on the output of the tuner on low band the tuner display max 8.2 Watt not 10 like I would suspect on higher band is it even worse only 3.8 watt forward power on 28MHz Maybe it has to do with a cheap Chinese ferrite ? Does any know a good source for the proper ferrite Or what would be other suggestion to get the power reading right 73 Frans PE0F

Tuner always in Test Mode
4
Hello, When I only had the tune button connected, the tuner started up in a normal mode. Now that I have added the auto and bypass buttons, it always starts in test mode. I have the caps connected across the switch terminals with one terminal connected to ground, and the other connected to either RB1 or RB2 on the board. I then have a wire from both vias on the board connected to ground. Does this sound correct, need more info, etc? Any and all feedback is welcome. Thanks & 73, Dave KC3GPM
