Direction finding settings don't seem to save in beacon configuration
Hey all, I have been trying to understand some of the direction finding extensions of ARPS. I have specifically been reading from the APRS101 document starting on page 28 for the PHG and DFS data. I believe that I should be able to set this in a beacon settings. This data should then be displayed and calculated if I turn on View->Layers->show direction finding. I can set some data for DFS in the beacon settings, make sure to save the settings. When I beacon I do not see the data in the packet and when I go back into the settings for the beacon all the DFS options are back to turned off. It does not seem to save things. The PHG settings seem to work. Also a nice feature would be to have beacon button have a pull down where you could just hit the button and send what is your default beacon or chose one of the other beacons you have created or maybe a new option under message or query where a new window would open up with the PHG and DFS options and the ability to send a one time beacon with direction finding data. If anyone has experience with these features I would love to talk with you. Thanks, Scott - W2KP

YAAC HELP
13
Hello, I need a little help with YAAC. I am trying to get the shape files for NWS alerts installed but every time I try to view severe alerts I get a "There are no DBF files containing forecast zone definitions. Download them and unzip into your YAAC tiledir" I have downloaded and unzipped the zone, warning area, and coastal shape files and extracted them all into the tiledir file folder and there error persists. What did I miss. Thanks, Mike NZ4K Sent via the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5, an AT&T 5G smartphone Sent via the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5, an AT&T 5G smartphone Get Outlook for Android

Possible Bug Importing Objects
6
After importing a list of objects (file->load->object and items), they are placed on the map correctly. Several versions ago I could click on the imported object to view the comment associated with the object. Now it isn't possible to click on the object and view the comment. Here's a snippet of the file imported: ;KM4MIF *121605h3608.98N\08649.15WaHCA Enterprise Emergency Operations Center - Monitoring ;K4OC *121605h3435.88N\08628.89WaClint K4OC ;KC5HWB *121605h3444.48N\08640.45Wagreen Gigaparts ;K4RXS *121605h3511.52N\08433.49WaGREEN. Multi-op with KA4BAH and W4JUU ;AA6BD *121605h3503.51N\08508.57WaGREEN All OK using AA6BD-10 The comment isn't visible in the object/station list either. Running Mint 22 here. Is this a bug in recent versions of YAAC or am I missing something? I receive no errors during import. 73, de KM4ACK

New local object creation from GPX file points of interest feature
3
I just got a chance to try out the latest build of YAAC. When importing a gpx file that does not have a symbol defined for the POI that are in the gpx file YAAC spits out an error and does not import the file. I have attached a gpx with(Zane-grey-test.gpx) and without(ZaneGrey50-NC.gpx) symbol defined for you to see. I have also attached the error message. It seems like it needs a little if null assign a default symbol section of code. Perhaps a colored circle or triangle. Thanks, Scott

next beat build#210 of YAC, created 2025-Apr-09
2
next beta build #210 of YAAC ("Yet Another APRS Client"), created 2025-Apr-09 downloadable from https://www.ka2ddo.org/ka2ddo/YAAC.html https://sourceforge.net/p/yetanotheraprsc changes and updates include: 1. stop auto-appending a carriage-return character to position messages. 2. fix NullPointerException for non-GPS stations using compressed-format position reports, and fix the encoding of speed for GPS-using stations using compressed format. Add unit tests to build system so that correct compressed-mode positions will be verified in regression tests. 3. fix broken hyperlinks in the YAAC source code Javadocs and in the built-in help files. 4. fix debug category ordering stability and NullPointerExceptions caused in the debug control plugin. 5. fix startup race condition for loading the digipeat alias catalog. 6. prevent listing national weather message destinations as drop-down choices for sending APRS text messages. 7. properly handle non-APRS and non-OpenTRAC position messages in the station histories. Such stations can come from the TAK plugin. 8. fix table update errors for local objects table. 9. fix NullPointerExceptions in Radio View when receiving connected-mode control packets (S-frames). 10. fix updating of pre-populated drop-down lists for message sending panels to not get frozen against further updates after the drop-down is used once. 11. fix ObjectEditor to not allow Save or OK buttons until the edited Object has a name. 12. fix NullPointerExceptions when sorting station and packet histories for packets without bodies. 13. fix RailroadStroke so it can be scaled up when a railroad-related amenity is highlighted on the map. 14. fix sort order on Station/Object list when user chooses to sort by age. 15. fix match list logic to properly handle clicking on local objects on the map without any packet history. 16. fix topographic tile download dialog to update the "map" of which tiles have already been downloaded, so the "map" won't freeze before finishing the Southern hemisphere. 17. fix OSM rendering bugs for "holes" in a solid Way, and when rendering shorelines and coastlines that are given the size of the landmass they surround (rather than the width of the beach the shorelines identify). 18. some performance improvements for OSM obstruction finder (used by line-of-sight views and AREDN plugin). 19. improve performance of nearest-point-on-OSM-Way calculator (used by dynamic objects plugin to fit a route to exact streets). 20. clean up the UI prompts and menu choices to be grammatically correct. 21. fix ADS-B plugin to support the alternate raw packet format provided by FlightRadar ADS-B receivers (as opposed to the format provided by the rtl_adsb and dump1090 programs). Add regression unit tests and debug logging to verify the packet parsing. 22. add support for AREDN node configuration's AGL height value, so inter-node propagation can be calculated better. 23. fix dynamic objects plugin to properly update the plugin's table views, and more efficiently fit a coarse set of route vertices to OpenStreetMap ways (roads, etc.). 24. optionally have dynamic objects route importer extract waypoints from a GPX file and convert into private APRS Objects on the map. 25. add the debugging option (from a JVM command-line system property) to number the vertices of a dynamic route on the map. 26. fix Mac OS X "right-mouse-click" issues in repeater finder plugin, and apply bugfixes in main YAAC station renderer to repeater finder map. 27. fix inter-plugin linking error for newer Java runtime versions in the small screen plugin. 28. fix packet rendering of packets received by TAK plugin. Also fill in reasonable defaults in TAK port configuration panel. 29. fix the built-in help files for the weather alert plugin to work correctly with the other help files.

Weird rendering of OSM for Guatemala

I'm seeing a very strange rendering of OSM data for Guatemala. I looked at the OSM data and can't figure why it looks so strange (see attached). 73, Eric WG3K FM18rp Packet: WG3K@WG3K.#SMD.MD.USA.NOAM E-Mail: wg3k@... GPG: D5A62094161B8C5D2A13E96EBA220AE2C4D9A50E

Beacon not shown on Map 1.0-beta209
3
the Beacon is not showing on the map. in the Beacon <TAB> i created a new beacon with - X Enabled station beacon Beacon Type: position, manual lat/lon, Display symbol: \# the remaining setting are unchanged. pressed the Save Changes button. i have enabled this beacon in both APRS-is and KISS over TCP. and saved those changes as well. on the Map i do not see my station symbol. further the BCN does not work - it has gray letters w/ white background. if i return to the Beacon <TAB> the Enable station beacon - no longer has a check in the box, the Display symbol - textbox is empty/blank. i have tried to uninstall the program from the Pi4 by removing the folders - YAAC and yaac_folder. after reinstalling the program the issues above are still present. is there another version of YAAC that i can use, if so where is located ? thanks 73, dan

GPS/GPX file points of interest

Good Evening, Should Point of Interest in a GPX file show up on the map or just the track section of the file? I can only seem to get the tracks to show up not the included POI. Maybe there is a switch I have missed. I have attached a sample file for you to review. Thanks, Scott - W2KP

Strange error message after antenna fell down

While I don't think that my antenna follwing down caused this but I did notice it after. I am currently running YAAC beta 207(1-feb-2025)on a pi4 using digipi as a sound card and Direwolf version 1.8D that I compiled from source as the TNC. I do not know if YAAC is sending out a bad packets or if the local digipeter recently started munging it. I noticed the error message on the Dierwolf output. Many different symbols on OpenStreetMap - very cluttered
4
Hi Andrew - This has been the case for some time now, but OpenStreetMap now displays many symbols that are a visual nuisance. See this screen capture: These symbols are in the YAAC>images folder. Waste receptacles, mail boxes, greenery, etc. It seems I must be able to get rid of them. I have poked around on this group and on the Internet, but so far maybe I'm using the wrong search terms. Is there a cure? %^) -- Cheers and 73 - Jon N7UV

Im thinking there might be an easier way ....
3
Hello. I've been a longtime Linux user and have used YAAC for quite a while now under Linux. I have just purchased a Microsoft Surface Pro 3. I admit to not knowing anything about Windows since Win98SE. I've searched over the web for how to get it (YAAC) running under JAVA on the Surface and have tried to look at he archives . here but have not resolved anything. I have installed both JDK (8u44??) and JRE. When i try to run it it pulls up a browser window and just makes a duplicate of the install file. Further research tells me i have to set a PATH and environment variables, etc. To me it seems l should just run WUBI and install a version of LINUX under Windows and try to run it that way. I really would appreciate any ideas anyone might have to get it to run with win 10.1. Thank-you much. Paul N6MYA
