IP / APRS-IS box turning yellow
6
Why does my IP box keep turning yellow after about half an hour? When it does this and I click on it, the "Enable port" checkbox is unchecked. If I check it again and then save it, the IP box turns black and stays that way for about half an hour, then turns yellow again. What's going on here? Thanks

How to get GPS to center map on my location
4
I have just installed a new Raspberry Pi installation using Buster and 73Linux (updated Build-a-Pi). I downloaded YAAC and it installed YAAC-1.0-beta191. I have a GPS attached and it is showing a 3D fix using cgps at my gridsquare. When I configured YAAC, I used Wizard mode. On the third screen, it asks for my default location. I have my location in decimal degrees and degrees-minutes-seconds But the wizard wants location in a format that does not look like either of these. I entered my degrees and tried to enter my minutes and seconds but I don't believe that is what YAAC expects. What is the format expected by the Wizard? I selected that I have a GPS via gpsd and I believe this is working as I can see my coordinates and gridsquare in cgps. YAAC shows a GPS button in green. When I click on "pan to local station position" the map puts me some distance away from my location, which is shown with my icon correctly. YAAC seems to be stuck using the coordinates I entered in the Wizard rather than using the GPS supplied coordinates. How do I get YAAC to center on my actual location as found by my GPS? -- -- Bill AA6BD

Issue transmitting with Pseudo APRS-IS Server plug-in
5
Hi, I installed the Pseudo APRS-IS Server plug-in and I can successfully connect and receive packets using the Python aprslib client. However when I try to transmit a packet, I can see the packet in the raw messages log of YAAC but no actual transmission is happening. I have both option checkboxes checked and successfully logged in as an authenticated user. I have a single port setup (Direwolf) and have enabled transmission, I can send beacon and messages from YAAC with no issues, problem is when connecting to the pseudo APRS-IS server. Any suggestions on how to send messages from a Python script? Thanks, Vassilis

new beta build#191 of YAAC, created 2023-Nov-13
Note this new build includes some non-backwards-compatible changes to the YAAC importing of OpenStreetMap data. The updated map data (as of the October 30th snapshot) is also available, but requires taking the code update to use it. next beta build#191 of YAAC ("Yet Another APRS Client"), created 2023-Nov-13 downloadable from https://www.ka2ddo.org/ka2ddo/YAAC.html or https://sourceforge.net/p/yetanotheraprsc changes and updates include: 1. add support for decoding USGS river flood gauges (from FireNet). 2. remove duplicates from received text messages display. 3. fix scaling of weather flood level value. 4. support maxweight limits in units of persons, i.e., elevator or foot bridge capacity. 5. allow monitoring APRS Objects the same way specific Stations can be monitored, including right-clicking to monitor. 6. improve the interface for drawing extra information on line-of-sight plots, and provide an implementation that can add OpenStreetMap Nodes and Ways that might obstruct a line-of-sight, but is selectively enabled by the expert-mode configuration dialog so small machines running YAAC won't be driven into the ground from the memory demand if not explicitly chosen. 7. add the ability for code launching line-of-sight panes to get feedback from antenna height sliders. 8. fix marking start point for line-of-sight plots. 9. add hook for creating non-standard popup menus. 10. work around XML limitation that XML strings cannot contain US-ASCII NUL control characters, which causes problems for saving Status message configurations when they don't send Maidenhead locators with APRS symbol codes. 11. make compatibility-breaking change to OpenStreetMap data storage format to support more RF line-of-sight blocking structures that can be plotted by the new line-of-sight plot additions. Users of older versions of YAAC will need to upgrade to handle the new ways and nodes files. 12. fix splitting of extremely long OSM Ways (from Relations) that are multiply-concave. 13. tweak APRS-IS Pseudo Server plugin to allow not having an administrator name appearing on the status web page. 14. add functionality to the AREDN Objects plugin to plot line-of-sight for all detected AREDN nodes reported by the local AREDN node's routing table, and also for proposed new nodes to add to the network. Note this is a first draft of this functionality, and may be enhanced in future builds. Also, it depends on the new OpenStreetMap import functionality introduced in build 191 of core YAAC, and on the topgraphic data.

Gauge data does not show on list of weather stations
4
i have added a river gauge to the weather station monitor but it reports no data. However, the gauge is actually reporting the "flood level" http://204.48.104.102:8008/history/06897500 it would be nice if this was fixed and we add alarms for gauge height along with wind and rain to the alerts settings?

YACC Maps
13
Hi, I've just started using YACC on Linux (Debian 12) with Direwolf and a USB CM108 modem, I downloaded the pre formatted tiles for my location (England GB) and unfortunately there are a few issues with some of the tiles and the coastline. I downloaded the tiles directly from OSM and imported them into YAAC. I've tried to delete the old map tiles but cant work out how. Unfortunately the old maps are still rendered - can someone suggest a way forward ? Many thanks, James G1PVZ

How Do I send email and winlink messages?
8
Hello! New to group. I just installed direwolf and yaac (latest version). I wish to try sending an email and a winlink message. I installed the plugin for email. I send a test message and get yaac msg that it has been sent, but no email arrives. I am doing this over an aprs port since I am out of range for RF. It should still work, shouldn't it? Concerning winlink, at the bottom of the yaac screen there are three fields: "to" to select the medium (email, winlink etc) "via" and a blank field, I assume for the message. I chose "winlink" but I don't know what to choose for the "via" field. And of course I don't know how to address the email. I hope someone will be able to explain this to me and perhaps give me some concrete examples. Thx! David SV0SGS

Loss of Yacc Config after Java Upgrade
12
Still more on this I dont know what Iam doing wrong but this is still happening every time I upgrade Java on each machine. Fortunately I have learned to keep a backup of the config before it upgrade but its still pretty annoying. I loose all the Raster map pining which is a lot of work to restore and its a bit hit and miss. I have executed Yaac from the command line and captured the execution both prior to upgrade and after . Below is the after upgrade if it helps . Would love to solve this . What am I doing wrong ? It never used to have this problem . Query/Response
2
I understand there supposedly is a method within APRS to send a query to a station and get a response, like for sensors, send a request and get a message back with a value. This would be to measure a voltage, temperature, level, switch position, status, etc. This is as opposed to just having it send a regular telemetry string on a regular basis, I guess. Could somebody please explain to me more how this works or point me to a tutorial or document or something? Is this something I can do with YAAC, or does it require another application? -- 73, Michael WA7SKG "Any day you do not learn one new thing is a wasted day."

next beta build#190 of YAAC, created 2023-Oct-13
next beta build#190 of YAAC ("Yet Another APRS Client"), created 2023-Oct-13 downloadable from https://www.ka2ddo.org/ka2ddo/YAAC.html or https://sourceforge.net/p/yetanotheraprsc changes and updates include: 1. allow tracking stations from the tabular views as well as the map. 2. minor code optimizations. 3. correct encoding and plotting of Area symbol (\l) per the APRS 1.1 errata. 4. fix scaling error when entering latitude and longitude using the DDMMSS (degrees-minutes-seconds) format. 5. add hook to line-of-sight plot so OpenStreetMap surface objects on the plot line could be plotted. 6. fix logic for adding private objects so they will be properly plotted on the map. 7. add support to ExtraColumnProvider implementations to send table cell updated events for extra columns providers that can change the cell values without user input. Alas, this support is not backwards-compatible, so all plugins implementing these interfaces also have to change. 8. prevent YAAC from sending APRS text messages when there is no body text. 9. try to eliminate duplicate messages (by alternate digipeat routing) from the Messages table view. 10. fix introduced error in selecting icon images for APRS 1.2 overlay symbols. 11. fix some Javadoc errors in code comments. 12. fix clicking on double-sized station icons so clicks within the double but outside the single icon size wiuld still be accepted as clicking on the icon. 13. fix NullPointerExceptions when viewing and editing Tracked Stations table for stations and objects that have expired out. 14. fix introducd bug where enabled Status messages were being disabled due to maximum transmit limits. 15. fix bug in OSM importing where map Nodes and Ways with multiple amenity types were corrupting the written files. 16. collect OSM building heights in stories in case needed for height calculations. 17. fix BikeStats plugin to support enhanced extra columns. 18. fix Dynamic Objects plugin to support objects going backwards on their route. 19. fix Dynamic Objects plugin to support enhanced extra columns that will display the position of all stations and objects (not just Dynamic Objects) that are on a dynamic route. 20. start writing unit regression tests.

YAAC Pros and Cons with UIView

I'm trying (hard) to sell the use of YAAC over UIview to a group I belong to. I'm hoping someone out there has done a Pro & Con between the two. If you have such a study, please share it with all of us. Thanks.

Losing Station Status message
Hi Andrew This has happened to me before but most recently twice in the last couple of weeks. I am sure that I am properly enabling my status message and it works fine for a while and then it stops working. On examination, I notice that the enable status message is unticked but I did not do that. I tick the box to enable the status message, ensuring that the status message is also there and it works for a while before stopping again. Is there anything that I am doing wrong? I am using the latest version of yaac on my raspberry pi. Thanks. Joe VA3TV

Solution: HF/FLDIGI “backhaul"
2
Turns out the KISS-over-TCP port in FLDIGI is not enabled by default. Also, UDP is the default and had to be overridden. Once that was taken care of the modems showed up in the YAAC port. A modem is selected and gets passed to FLDIGI just fine. I even see a YAAC "home" station beacon being transmitted by FLDIGI. However if I try to save the modem information set in the YAAC port Java throws an exception claiming that the TCP port refuses the connection, even though the connection had functioned. And FLDIGI will not normally terminate, but has to be forced to close even after everything that's connected to FLDIGI has been shut down. Craig/KH6CP On Sun, Sep 24, 2023 at 2:58 PM KH6CP Craig Paul via groups.io <carcarx@...> wrote: Hi, Andrew, I invoked FLDIGI 4.2.00 and, upon start-up of YAAC saw that, on port 7342, the connection was refused. HF/FLDIGI “backhaul"
3
Part of our radio "territory" consists of small islands with extinct volcanoes obstructing most VHF/UHF traffic. Experiments show that HF NVIS with faster modes (like Thor 56) would work, at least most of the time. I see that I can configure a KISS-over-TCP port pointing to FLDIGI's localhost port 7342. How do I route the HF "backbone" traffic to my AGWPE port and vice versa? ---- (On the KISS port I see the "Radio of HF bands" check box and will enable that and I would think WIDE1-1 would be proper. On the AWGPE port at the "remote" site I'd want to continue the WIDE1-1 digipeating. Any recommendations as to further settings? Thanks! Craig/KH6CP

Bikestats Plugin

I see a plugin labeled bikestats. The description says "supplemental notation columns for objects for supporting public service event operations". I can find no documentation on this about what it is exactly or how to use it. Help?? -- 73, Michael WA7SKG "Any day you do not learn one new thing is a wasted day."

fonts
2
Hi Andrew, There seems to be something slightly weird with how fonts are rendered on macOS. I was trying to use B612, the free airbus cockpit display font, and while the mono version loads fine and works well, the variable version seems to be loading the BOLD variant instead on the menus, which just makes it ugly. The same happens with most other fonts that have a bold variant (Avenir New, Calibri, DejaVu Sans, Helvetica Neue etc). It seems to be ok on the map itself. Carl.
