Bikestats Plugin

I see a plugin labeled bikestats. The description says "supplemental notation columns for objects for supporting public service event operations". I can find no documentation on this about what it is exactly or how to use it.

Help??

The Bikestats plugin is a way to attach operator-entered data to a station.

For example, let's assume one of your viewed stations is the tracker installed in a SAG (Support And Gear) vehicle. The bikestats plugin would allow you to add extra columns to the Station/Object List table view so you could enter "number of riders" and "number of bikes" for each SAG station, so you could keep track of how loaded a SAG was. "SAG1 already has 5 riders and bikes on board, and SAG2 has nobody, so let's send SAG2 to pick up the next flat-tire call."

The plugin provides the means to define the extra columns on the table view, with column headings and data types (numeric, text string, or enumeration of value [like the Mic-E status codes]). Then you just type in the new columns of the table view to update that status information for that station. You could do it for APRS Objects too, i.e., "Rest Stop 3 only has 2 cases of water bottles left."

For built-in help, go to Help->Contents, and scroll past all the manual sections for core YAAC and look in the Appendices for the installed plugins. Most plugins have help files that get merged into the Help table of contents and Help index.

Hope that helps.

Not having much luck with this.

I have the bikestats plugin installed. First problem, I see no Appendices for plugins in the Table of Contents. See picture.

In the Stations/Objects list, I see that I can edit individual stations, but I don't see anything in the edit window to add columns. Nor do I see anything to add columns to the overall Stations/Objects list.

Please forgive my inability to understand this.

Thanks for your help.

Looks like Bikestats' help files weren't set up correctly. Note that you have the PBBS plugin's help files visible in your screenshot.?

I will see about fixing Bikestats' help and releasing a new build of that plugin.

I noticed the PBBS help files, but I did not install the PBBS plugin. I tried reinstalling the bikestats plugin. When I closed and reopened the Install Plugin window, it does not show the bikestats plugin as installed. However, looking at About YAAC, it now shows the bikestats twice along with the Samples plugin.

I'm getting more confused by the minute.

I looked into the plugins folder and there is only one copy of the bikestats.jar file along with the samples file. No others.

I can't imagine why the help appendix for bikestats would be called PBBS, unless I copied the template help files from the PBBS plugin and forgot to change the template name when I created the Bikestats help.

In any case, the "Configure Statistics" entry is the help for configuring Bikestats.

Note that a whiteboard at Net Control might be easier to use than the Bikestats plugin. :-)

When I saw PBBS, I never thought to actually look at what it contained. I just thought it an aberrant entry. Looking at the Configuring Statistics entry, I see it is indeed the instructions for using the bikestats options. I think I've got it figured out.

Also playing with the filters. I thought the Range filter was to set a radius from my location of stations to show, but that does not seem to be the case. I set it for 50km, but it shows everybody. The distance shows how far away, and many are farther than 50m. The Range shows 6.396 for almost every station, though some are blank.

After playing around with this, I think it will be useful. Some questions, though.

There are a lot of columns in the Station/Object list we don't really care about. I see I can resize the column to almost eliminate it, but is there a way to eliminate it completely? If I restart YAAC or edit the Station/Object list through the configuration tool, it restores all columns to their original size and I have to change them all back to how I want. Any way to make those kinds of changes persistent?

Is there a way to include a MicE column on the Station/Object list?

I see buttons for saving and loading Objects files, but I'm not really sure how to utilize that.

Regarding your questions:

1. The Range filter has to be enabled, and all it does is control whether you will be notified if a station or object enters or leaves the range around the filter's center point. This is mostly only useful with the sounds plugin, which can report when a station or object becomes in-range or out of range, i.e., did a mobile station become close enough to you for you to want to care about it?

2. YAAC does persist column sizing _and_ _order_ until you change the number of columns. So don't size or order them until you finish defining your new columns. Rather than squishing a column down to minimum width, you can drag it to the right to make it less obvious (or drag the column left to make it more obvious). You do this by dragging the column headers, same as you do in spreadsheet programs.

3. To add a Mic-E status column, I would have to change the table code. It's doable, but then there's one _more_ column in an already extremely wide table. And the Mic-E information is displayed on the map (both directly as colored circles around the icons, and as text in the popup window if you click on a station).

4. Loading and saving local Object files allows you to keep a reference copy of a set of Objects you want to plot on a map or share out-of-band with other users. For example, I keep a set of Object definitions I created for the rest stops on the bicycle public service events I work, so the fixed rest stop locations can be displayed on the YAAC map the same way the mobile SAG vehicles with trackers are displayed.

Hope this helps.

Big help, thanks. Silly me, I didn't even think about rearranging the columns. Moving the unneeded ones right made a big difference.

Also playing with the filters. I thought the Range filter was to set a

shows how far away, and many are farther than 50m. The Range shows 6.396

I noticed the PBBS help files, but I did not install the PBBS plugin. I
tried reinstalling the bikestats plugin. When I closed and reopened the
Install Plugin window, it does not show the bikestats plugin as
installed. However, looking at About YAAC, it now shows the bikestats
twice along with the Samples plugin.

I'm getting more confused by the minute.

Not having much luck with this.

I have the bikestats plugin installed. First problem, I see no
Appendices for plugins in the Table of Contents. See picture.

In the Stations/Objects list, I see that I can edit individual stations,
but I don't see anything in the edit window to add columns. Nor do I see
anything to add columns to the overall Stations/Objects list.

Please forgive my inability to understand this.

Thanks for your help.

Michael WA7SKG

It looks like the column size and order does not persist across a reboot. So, I get everything set the way I want it, but then when I shut it down, carry it to the NCS location and set it up, I have to reconfigure all the Station/Object stuff over again, including the filters. As the site will be running on generator that will have to be shut down and refueled periodically, All those columns and filters will need to be reset on each restart. That will be a nuisance, and possibly beyond the skillset of the NCS operators.

Oh, well. It was a nice idea at the time.

Andrew P. wrote on 9/20/23 4:43 PM:

After playing around with this, I think it will be useful. Some
questions, though.
There are a lot of columns in the Station/Object list we don't really
care about. I see I can resize the column to almost eliminate it, but is
there a way to eliminate it completely? If I restart YAAC or edit the
Station/Object list through the configuration tool, it restores all
columns to their original size and I have to change them all back to how
I want. Any way to make those kinds of changes persistent?
Is there a way to include a MicE column on the Station/Object list?
I see buttons for saving and loading Objects files, but I'm not really
sure how to utilize that.

I will look into this. Table column settings and window sizes and positions are supposed to be persisted. There may be an issue with when Bikestats adds the columns that causes the column layout to be discarded.

_._,_._,

Can't use a UPS on generator. Generator power fluctuates too much so UPS doesn't accept it as good commercial power, so you only run on the UPS battery until it runs down, which is rather quickly. Computer is a Quadra (RaspberryPi similar) and don't have a handy battery infrastructure available for everything.

This is a no budget junkbox package with no time left for big changes as it will be deployed Saturday morning.
