Hello all. I bought a Kenwood TM-D7A (G) in good shape. I'm wanting to connect it directly to a Pi or PC and use the TNC for YAAC. I have the serial cable and I plan to use a USB GPS on the computer side to let YAAC port position data. Where do I go in the configuration to tell it about this TNC? Any other hints or knowledge on this radio is welcome! This was one of those unicorn radios that came up cheap and I think it is still useful. Thanks! Ronny K4RJJ

HI I am not sure when this started but I am no longer able to see the menu bar on Y. It seems to be covered up with something and I cannot figure it out. I tried minimising and maximising the image. Greetings, Does YAAC check for the existence of hardware even if the Serial_TNC port is unchecked? Likewise, does it also check if something like Dire Wolf is running even if the AGWPE port is unchecked? If I recall correctly, YAAC appears check for inactive ports. I find it handy to keep them configured, but unused, if the associated device is unplugged and/or the software (as in Dire Wolf) is not running. This way I can switch devices and simply click/unclick the appropriate ports depending on what hardware I've got connected. Is this expected behavior? I don't normally switch devices that much and will now delete inactive ports. If it makes any difference, I'm running YAAC with three profiles as well. Thanks! 73, KD0KZE / Paul

I'm hosting YAAC on a Pi4 running Ubuntu, and after seeing the update email this morning I've manually run the "Check for Updates" from the Help menu. The response is a Check for Updates window that states: "The YAAC application and1 plugins need upgrading but you do not have permission to overwrite them." I'd be grateful of a steer on where to look for a fix. 73 Ciemon G0TRT

These capabilities are specific to the radio being controlled by the plugin. Also add tuning support for Icom IC-2730A, IC-9700, and IC-705.

Hey Folks, Apologies but I was able to figure it out when configuring the TNC I was using Raw AX.25 protocol, therefore beacon, digi, and PBBS functions worked. Once I switched and enabled APRS protocol messaging started to work. Thanks, Rocco WQ1Q

Hi Everyone, I'm a relatively new YAAC user I am having an issue with getting APRS messaging working from YAAC itself. It seems I can create messages but they do not Xmit. Beaconing is working, digipeating works, in addition connecting to a PBBS also works. I can also rx messages say from another HT, but I am unable to xmit a reply. All the previous mentioned functions puts out RF. For some reason any kind of messaging i.e. station chat, direct messaging, winlink email will not put a transmission out on the wire. I am running a linux system with YAAC and using a d-74 in kiss mode connected via usb. Given the other functions work and I have used this setup successfully in xastir I am reasonably confident it's a configuration issue on my end. Thoughts?

Hello, I installed YAAC on a, I believe a Windows 10 machine. The radio is a new FTM-500 and the idea was to display a map of APRS traffic around the location. I could see raw packets on messages but no stations on the map. I am curious why I can see the raw packaets and not see anying on the map. On a new install on a PC is there a filter or something you have to change to get YAAC to see stations on the map? In other installations on linux machines I alwasy see stations on the map if I am getitng raw packets. Since I do not run on windows any thoughts from the those that do use windows. Tim KM4ESU

Hi, I just set up my winlink and wanted to try it via APRS/YAAC. The first time I tried to send mail YAAC prompted me but I used the wrong password. Now YAAC doesn't seem to want to prompt me again. I only have one try left before (I'm not sure what happens). So how can I get YAAC to prompt me for the password again? I looked in an exported xml but nothing jumped out at me. Greetings all, With the demise of my old TM-V71A + RC-D710 rig, I decided to splurge on an entirely new rig -- ICOM-9700. (I'll use this for a lot more than APRS and it's been several years since I got a new rig). My shack has been 100% Linux for awhile -- recently upgraded to Debian 12. Rig is connected via USB. I cloned the most recent dev branch of Dire Wolf and have it partially setup. I made an AGWPE port in YAAC and I've got YAAC successfully connected for RX, it's decoding packets just as it always did with my old rig. However, it's unclear to me what I need to do for PTT/TX. There are some settings in the direwolf.conf file, and there may be some menu tweaks needed on the ICOM-9700 itself. Also, I read about compiling Dire Wolf with hamlib for cat control. Is this necessary? I wouldn't want to go down that path unless it's really needed. I'll likely post this on a Dire Wolf group as well, but I'm curious if anyone here might point me in the right direction. I suspect I have things about 95%+ setup, but just need to weak the PTT settings in the conf, and possibly a tweak or two on the rig itself. Thanks! 73, KD0KZE / Paul

I finally got to test YAAC on a Mac OS X system, and made a few improvements along with fixing the problem. ---------------------------------------------- next beta build#183 of YAAC ("Yet Another APRS Client"), created 2023-Jul-16 downloadable from https://www.ka2ddo.org/ka2ddo/YAAC.html or https://sourceforge.net/p/yetanotheraprsc changes and updates include: 1. fix broken startup on Mac OS X, and do some platform-specific cleanup to make YAAC operate more cleanly in the OS X environment. 2. more code cleanup for the advance to Java 8 as minimum release. 3. fix APRS Text message sending to not use sequence numbers (requesting acks) if the message is addressed to a known group, rather than to a single station or APRS-IS service. 4. fix refreshing of station/object table when sorting by age of the entries in the list. 5. correct reported version of OpenMap library used in YAAC.

I ran into an issue today. Looking at the screen in my mobile, I saw a big cluster of calls in one spot. I wanted to zoom in and see who/what was up. However, I have Auto-Center turned on, so as soon as I zoomed in and moved the screen, it jumped back to center on me and I lost track of the others. Any chance of adding a button on the main screen to toggle Auto-Center? Right now, I have to get the mouse or keyboard with trackpad out and go to FILE and turn on/off the Auto-Center feature. Since it doesn't seem to remember its state on reboot, I always have to remember to turn on auto centering. I've been on the road the last four months and using APRS a lot on the long travels. I notice that occasionally my vehicle icon will have a colored circle around it. Sometimes light blue, sometimes a kind of aqua, sometimes green. It seems somewhat random. I am not changing anything. I'm not finding anything right off that explains this behavior. Now and then, when another vehicle appears on my display, they, too, occasionally display a similar shaded circle around their icon. It took a long time to get this build out. There are a lot of changes and cleanups in this build, but I hope you will appreciate them all. Also some new core API methods on the DebugCtl class to permit plugins to register new debug logging categories. 6. version update on the JavaHelp library. 7. some code cleanup for the change to Java 8 as minimum supported runtime release, so as to reduce warnings from findbugs and IDE, including identifying interfaces meeting the FunctionalInterface annotation. 8. fix references to old http:// websites in Javadocs to use the current https:// URLs to avoid redirections by browsers visiting the Javadocs on the author's website. 9. add configuration option to not gray out old message traffic (to make it more readable in the UI). 10. fix exceptions thrown when doing a Locate->Landmark search so that all matches will be reported. 11. first draft at fixing filtered message view. 12. make it possible to select text from the popup OSM node/way information dialog and copy it to the clipboard. useful for debugging OSM issues. 13. allow configurable level of position ambiguity in locally-originated beacons. 14. ensure if use of GPS is deselected in the configuration wizard, beacons configured to use GPS as the position source automatically have the "Use GPS for Position" option unchecked. 15. fix places in YAAC where HTTPS transactions were still allowed when the option to force only unencrypted transactions was specified. 16. keep unlabeled OSM ways fronm being selected when clicked on the map if rendering unlabeled ways is disabled. 17. ensure plugin status tabl is correctly updated when a new plugin is installed. 18. ensure AX.25 frame command/poll bits are set correctly. 19. fix SRTM (topographic) data downloader to allow the user to abort if they don't have a USGS account yet to use for the downloading. 20. fix pseudo APRS-IS server plugin so a jammed subordinate client is treated the same way as a real APRS-IS backbone server would, disconnecting the client rather than letting all of YAAC get frozen. 21. remove the bluetooth plugin from the supported plugin set, as the BlueCove library no longer works with current versions of Microsoft Windows. 22. fix port naming in the marineports plugin so the port driver for NMEA-0183 over TCP/IP can actually be used.
