What did you set the Kenwood port in YAAC to? Values that match the radio's com port? Also, what brand of serial port are you using on your computer? Does it have modem control signal wires, or does it only implement TxData and RxData?

I'm not talking about the RF packet baud rate. I mean the wired RS232 baud rate, which defaults to 9600 on the Kenwood radios. You need a higher baud rate on that link to avoid overrun errors because of the KISS packet encapsulation adding extra bits.

How are you configuring your radio/TNC versus YAAC? If you are using a Kenwood D700 in APRS mode (where it displays the packets on the control head screen), then you have to use the Kenwood port type in YAAC (not the Serial_TNC port type), and it's receive-only. To transmit with a Kenwood, you have to put it in PACKET (not APRS) mode and give up the control head view, and use the Serial_TNC port. Note also that your YAAC port has to be configured to use hardware flow control, and your serial adapter has to have the modem control signals hooked up (instead of being just a three-wire RxD/TxD/SGND connection).

Re: Fixing support for Java and YAAC on Microsoft Windows

I'm not talking about the RF packet baud rate. I mean the wired RS232 baud rate, which defaults to 9600 on the Kenwood radios. You need a higher baud rate on that link to avoid overrun errors because of the KISS packet encapsulation adding extra bits.

Re: FCC Database Location on a Mac

Thanks Andrew.

Re: FCC Database Location on a Mac

In your configured YAAC log directory, wherever that might happen to be (defaulting to the YAAC/logdir subdirectory of your personal home directory). It's in a single binary (non-human-readable) file named callsigndb.dat. The original files from the various government agencies aren't kept; YAAC just extracts what it wants and discards the original files (which are never actually stored on disk with the newest version of the CallsignDB plugin).

The RFg means that the port is receiving GPS data. It doesn't mean anything is being done with it (such as altering your position beacon reports).

?

If you don't want YAAC to receive GPS data, disconnect the GPS from your D700 so it won't have any GPS data to forward.

It sounds like the cable is correct. The fact that the button says "RFg" instead of "RF" indicates that YAAC is receiving GPS data forwarded through the Kenwood radio.

?

Is the radio actually receiving decodeable packets? YAAC won't display packets unless they can be demodulated and decoded by the radio.

?

Just to confirm, which port type are you using in YAAC, and what mode is the D700 in (packet or APRS mode)?

Yes sure I would be glad to try this but, although my windows version is 64 bit (I checked) the version of java must not be because my directory tree is %HOME%/.jssc/windows and the file is an x86 file.?? How can I change to 64 bit java?

I'm a little behind on producing a patch. However, if you're willing to try it, I have a possible solution, but I can't test it myself yet (my one Windows system is deliberately kept behind on its Java version for testing purposes).

?

I have posted the 64-bit version of the relevant Microsoft Visual Studio runtime library DLL on my website at https://www.ka2ddo.org/ka2ddo/msvcr100.dll

?

Assuming you are using a 64-bit version of Java, if you could download this file and put it in the directory %HOME%/.jssc/win64 (this should have been created the last time you ran YAAC), then try starting YAAC again. If the serial ports work again, then the fix I'm planning will work.

?

By the way, did you mean build 156 of YAAC? I haven't released build 157 yet, so I'm not sure where you could have gotten it.

Re: Java 8_261 on Microsoft Windows breaks YAAC!

The RFg means that the port is receiving GPS data. It doesn't mean anything is being done with it (such as altering your position beacon reports).

If you don't want YAAC to receive GPS data, disconnect the GPS from your D700 so it won't have any GPS data to forward.

OK I deleted the port I had set up and tried to add a receive only Kenwood tnc port. When I hit Next to enable the port, I get a java error saying cannot open the port.

The radio should be receiving decodeable packets because when I run the raspberry pi yaac using the same radio, I get packets showing. The radio is in packet mode displaying TNC PKT in the window.

When I downloaded the msvcr100.dll file into the directory should I delete the jSSC-2.6_x86 file that was there before?

It sounds like the cable is correct. The fact that the button says "RFg" instead of "RF" indicates that YAAC is receiving GPS data forwarded through the Kenwood radio.

Is the radio actually receiving decodeable packets? YAAC won't display packets unless they can be demodulated and decoded by the radio.

Just to confirm, which port type are you using in YAAC, and what mode is the D700 in (packet or APRS mode)?
