If you installed the Oracle commercial JRE or JDK on Windows, then all you should to do is use File Explorer to view the directory into which you unzipped the YAAC.zip distribution file (you can't run it from inside the zip file), then double-click on YAAC.jar (the starting Java program for YAAC). That should get YAAC running.

If you used OpenJDK instead, you'll need to add the JRE's bin directory to your system PATH environment variable in Windows Control Panel (OpenJDK doesn't have a full-blown Windows installer like the Oracle commercial version does to automatically register the java.exe program as the program to open .jar files), then either do the above starting of YAAC from File Explorer, or open a Command window, use the 'cd' command to move to the directory when you unzipped YAAC, and type the command

java -jar YAAC.jar

I just published new builds of core YAAC (1.0beta209) and the sounds plugin (1.2.4) yesterday evening. Try upgrading and see if the problems go away.

I did notice from studying your configuration that some of the events you specify as SOUND_FILE don't have a file path associated with them, so nothing will happen. And the event types with SOUND_FILE and a path to the sample_6s.wav file are types that may not happen. For example, you ask for a sound on NEW_STATION_IN_RANGE; if you haven't configured and enabled the Range filter, then nothing will be "in range".

Is "hello" the name of your speech synthesizer program on your Windows 10 system? If not, then you won't get any synthesized speech. Also, any text-to-speech program you specify in the text field at the bottom of the Sounds configuration tab has to accept the text via its standard input; YAAC launches the program, then pipes the text to it as events associated with the SPEECH_SYNTH type occur. I have had good performance with the FOSS speech synthesizer "espeak", available at

You might want to associate the MESSAGE_TO event type; that will cause the sounds plugin to announce when a message addressed to your group arrives. Of course, that's only meaningful if you are using the sounds plugin. :-)

To see how much heap you really need to have for your particular usage of YAAC, you can open the expert-mode Configuration dialog and enable displaying the memory utilization bar on the Preferences tab. The bar itself will appear on the map window's toolbar. you should have at least a 10% reserve. Note that specifying the -Xmx command-line option only sets the upper limit for Java heap size; if the demand is less, the actual amount of allocated heap (still more than the used heap) may be less than the maximum.

Note the -Xmx option; that specifies the maximum amount of memory the Java virtual machine is allowed to claim. In this example, it is authorizing 512 megabytes of RAM (hence the "m" after the 512).

Hopefully, your system isn't so clogged with other applications that there is that much RAM available for YAAC to use.

This sounds like there's some kind of networking issue on your second computer. This can happen when the radar image refresh is attempted and fails. An error message should appear in the YAAC.out file in your log files directory (also viewable in the Help->About dialog on the Error Log tab, and in the terminal window where you started YAAC if you used one). Whenever you successfully download a radar image, the log should report the refresh time (when NWS says the image will be out-of-date), so you should be able to predict when YAAC will try to download the image again.

I have the current YAAC version running on different machines. On one ( a RPi 4) NWS raster overlay maps are displayed and refreshed every few minutes. On the other, (an x86 machine), the maps do not refresh. If I delete a previously loaded NWS map, and manually load a new one, the map displays. Subsequent maps are not displayed. If I look at the "raster maps" window, I always find the enable box unchecked. This happens even though "enable" is checked after loading the first map. Have I mis-configured the second machine somehow?

This allows to leave and rejoin the group without having to delete and re-add it on the table.

APRS Group messages

 

So I am able to send a group message by use the "To:" at the bottom via wide1,wide 2.? Is YAAC capable a receiving?a group message directly? or do I have to filter out from the messages.

On the first (working) system, the error log shows repeated downloads of the NWS map file, e.g.:
