Map rendering issues.
HI Andrew
As you know, I have been using yaac for some time now with no issues.? I had to reinstall yaac from scratch on my raspberry pi and when I downloaded the map tiles from pre-imported tiles, I get a white area of the map not rendering properly.? My tile version matches the server tile version 20200906 ID 90496127.? ?I have deleted all files in the tile directory and redownloaded the tiles but I can't seem to get rid of the issue.? Interestingly, I also have loaded yaac on my windows 10 machine and that map loads perfectly.? ?The map versions are the same.? I have attached a screenshot of the problem map.? Thanks in advance. Re: BEACON only on RF
Yes, you can do this.

What you have to do is have two different beacons (the default one, and another one), and associate one with the RF port and the other with the APRS-IS port. Then disable (not delete) the beacon for the APRS-IS port. This should do what you want, although it will guarantee that m/ filters on your APRS-IS connection won't work (since your associated server won't know your position). Re: how to change language from German back to English
Thanks for all the info. So for the mnemonics it is good practice to use the first letters of the keywords that lead you to a certain menu item (unless this would lead to an ambiguity with another menu item).
I'll come back in case another question comes up :). |
Re: how to change language from German back to English
Oops. I missed two other localization filesets in core YAAC:
YAAC/src/main/resources/org/ka2ddo/aprs/SymbolText*.properties YAAC/src/main/resources/org/ka2ddo/opentrac/OpenTracSymbolsPaths*.properties The former is the localized names of the APRS symbol codes; the latter is the same for OpenTRAC symbol codes. I don't think we need to worry about YAAC/src/main/resources/org/ka2ddo/aprs/MicEModels.properties, as those are mostly manufacturer names, not ordinary words. ________________________________________ From: [email protected] <[email protected]> on behalf of DM5MD@... <DM5MD@...> Sent: Sunday, October 25, 2020 6:05 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [yaac-users] how to change language from German back to English Andrew, thanks for pointing out the location of the *.properties files :). Re: how to change language from German back to English
开云体育Thank you so much!
Yes, it's a lengthy file, because there are an enormous amount of GUI controls and labels in YAAC. The AmenityType.* items you pointed out are descriptive types of Node and Way records found in OpenStreetMap, such as store=greengrocer (in OSM) mapping
to the AmenityType.greengrocer enumeration value (and Java enum value names can't have whitespaces or punctuation marks in them). Those at least I could check against my pocket English-Deutsch translation dictionaries to cross-check Google's assumptions. Longer
sentences are harder to validate when they are using words outside my limited German vocabulary.
The menu.*.mnemonics tags are for highlighting the hot keys used to keyboard-navigate the YAAC menu bar, as in keyboard driving on older versions of Microsoft Windows applications that still could be used without a mouse. For what you quoted below (in
English), the mnemonic is FFE, which means File->Configure->Expert Mode (note the underscored letters, as they are underscored in the drop-down menus), so you could get there by typing Alt-F F E instead of having to click with a mouse.
As such, the German equivalent with the words I got in translation are Ablegen->Konfigurieren->Expertenmodus; I hope I picked appropriate unique letters for the German translations of the menu entries (they only have to be unique at their
level of the menu tree, so for example C works both for Close on the File menu and for Chat on the Message menu). Note that all entries on submenus have to be consistent on their choice of letter for the parent menus (i.e., all things on the File menu have
mnemonics starting with F in the default English properties). Of course, it would have helped if I'd picked the correct words first.
?Perhaps I should have installed my old MSDN copy of the German version of Windows NT 4.0 to see these things.
?
Also note that some translations have embedded HTML tags so a <br> line-wrap can be inserted into an extremely long piece of text for a Java Swing JLabel or JButton. The HTML that the Swing renderer understands is very limited, so I don't use it for any
more than line-breaking.
Make sure whatever text editor you use saves files in UTF-8 format; I went to a lot of trouble to support UTF-8 for Sergei when he did the Russian translation, because there are no Cyrillic characters whatsoever in the ISO-8859-1 character set. Any character
not in 7-bit US ASCII will be screwed up if you don't save in UTF-8 encoding.
Thank you again for offering to assist on this.

Re: how to change language from German back to English
I would be overjoyed if any native speakers of German could fix my lousy grammar in YAAC. Alas, it's been 40 years since I actually studied German (as a foreign language) as a student, and 30 years since I had any opportunity to use it conversationally, so I'm not very good at it.
The single file of all German translations does exist in YAAC. In the source-code distribution, you will find in the YAAC/src/main/resources/org/ka2ddo/yaac directory a file named YAAC.properties, which contains tags to all the UI elements in YAAC and their corresponding English text (I point this out so you can see what context in the UI code each tag is used for). The file YAAC_de.properties contains the same tags and the equivalent German text (or was supposed to :-( ). YAAC_ru.properties was created several years ago by a Russian-speaking volunteer, but I haven't been able to keep it up to date since then, so it's missing several hundred more recent tags, which therefore fall back to the default English translations. There are similar .properties files for each of the plugins for additional text that didn't already exist in the YAAC.properties file and its localized copies. For those who are Java language programmers, YAAC uses the Java runtime's PropertyResourceBundle class (with a custom Control subclass to use UTF-8 character set properties files instead of the very limiting ISO-8859-1 properties files that Java supports by default), and the MessageFormat class for substituting variable text at the correct places in localized sentences. I haven't yet figured out how to invoke localized copies of the help files, so translating them is of lower priority than fixing the actual UI (since it would help to have correctly-localized UI screens to snapshot for the help). Thank you for even considering helping with this. Andrew, KA2DDO author of YAAC |

Re: how to change language from German back to English
Hello I am new to this board - I hope you don't mind if reply to this "old" topic.
I'd like to thank Andrew for his work & dedication on this project. It seems to me that YAAC is the only non-outdated standalone APRS today… As already mentioned, YAAC switches to German when running on a localized operating system (Ubuntu 20.04 and Raspian Buster in my case). In a number of cases the (automated) translation does not work out. Example: "pan to local station position" on the Map screen. Google translated "to pan" not as a verb, but as a noun. Result: the word "pan" was translated as "frying pan"… How can I contribute there? In the Zip-file I downloaded from sourceforge I could not find any source files containing language information… I think in a first step it makes sense not to post every single mistranslated term in this forum here - there are many. It would be nice if I could edit a file containing all German language terms. The updated file could then simply be merged without much effort. |
