Re: HF/FLDIGI “backhaul"

Hi, Andrew,

I invoked FLDIGI 4.2.00 and, upon start-up of YAAC saw that, on port 7342, the connection was refused.
I checked the WIn 11 Firewall and local networks were enabled.

Next, as Administrator I got the command shell and invoked

netstat -ab | more

FLDIGI was listening on port 7362 and 7322.

I got into YAAC and changed the? TCP port for KISS-over-TCP to 7362, saved the config, exited?YAAC, reinvoked?it, and saw
that there was no refused connection. However there was no modem listing for the KISS-over-TCP port.

I then changed the KISS-over-TCP port to 7322, saved the config, existed YACC, rebooted Win 11, started FLDIGI
then started YAAC. Still no FLDIGI modem list for the KISS-over-TCP port.

What other info do you need to help diagnose this?

Thanks!

Note that having more than one RF port in YAAC is basically setting up a cross-frequency digipeater. The only thing the HF checkbox does is change the assumed RF baud rate from 1200 baud to 300 baud for the port bandwidth monitor, and enable one digipeat hop for pathless HF packets to non-HF ports. So you still have to configure which digipeat aliases will be accepted by each port for outbound traffic. For example, continental HF digipeaters specify GATE as the only digipeat alias for the HF port, so the HF band isn't clogged with WIDE2-2 packets from a channel with 4 times the bandwidth.

Note that not all Fldigi modems support binary KISS packets (especially ones like Olivia and Thor that expect the payload to be printable ASCII streams rather than packets). Use the modem choice menu in YAAC to ensure you only pick from the subset of Fldigi modems that support 8-bit binary packets.

And, of course, stay in compliance with the outdated FCC rules regarding symbol rate. :-(

And, like Direwolf, Fldigi has to be started in KISS mode before you open the YAAC port to it. And KISS mode disables being able to use any associated Fldigi programs using the ARQ protocol; you might not be able to use Flrig, for example.

Hope this helps.

Part of our radio "territory" consists of small islands with extinct volcanoes obstructing
most VHF/UHF traffic. Experiments show that HF NVIS with faster modes (like Thor 56)
would work, at least most of the time.

I see that I can configure a KISS-over-TCP port pointing to FLDIGI's?localhost port

How do I route the HF "backbone" traffic to my AGWPE port and vice versa?

(On the KISS port I see the "Radio of HF bands" check box and will?
enable that and I would think WIDE1-1 would be proper.

On the AWGPE?port at the "remote" site I'd want to continue the WIDE1-1 digipeating.

Any recommendations as to further settings?

Re: Bikestats Plugin

Hi.

I've run ex office UPS's (APC Smart UPS series) on small (<2kVA) Generators without major issues several times in the past, they do though need configuring to accept a "wider" range of tolerable incoming voltage, else they forever switch between OnLine, and OnBattery, but it can be done.

More modern generator sets are usually much better regulated, especially the larger capacity machines, or the "Inverter" types. (But that RF noise issue, unless you go mad with filters...)

The simple way for power holdover while refuelling, is to use a "smart battery charger" after the generator, to "float charge" a battery.? That battery in turn runs everything "critical" that must not suffer a power outage.? (Also lighting!)

Some small generators have the ability to do that "natively" too, that also results in "Very much better" AC output voltage regulation as a bonus!? But read and check the machines user manual to make sure what it can, or can't do.? Though the AC output may be more stable, it's power capability might be reduced..

Overall, with care and research, quite easy to do safely for minimal cost, unless you need serious kVA (no break) power holdover.

Hope something helps for future events.

Ok, worked it out. It’s by design. FontCache.java/FontAttr has ‘wantsBold’ set to true for most of the UI elements. I can live with it.

Upgraded until it won't upgrade any more. Now, the SO list is retaining the changes in the columns, but is not displaying columns added through configure, and they clear after reboot.

The bikestats shows on the About page, but does not show as installed through the Plugin Install page. Trying to install it again shows the same error.

I moved the bikestats.jar file and rebooted. The bikestats no longer shows up in About and the Statistics tab is gone from Configure. I tried to install bikestats again from the Install Plugins window and get the same error. See install picture. Although it says "failed to install", the bikestats.jar file is present, the Statistics tab is back in configure, and the help file is back.

Sumpin' broke somewhere.

Can't use a UPS on generator. Generator power fluctuates too much so UPS
doesn't accept it as good commercial power, so you only run on the UPS
battery until it runs down, which is rather quickly. Computer is a
Quadra (RaspberryPi similar) and don't have a handy battery
infrastructure available for everything.

This is a no budget junkbox package with no time left for big changes as
it will be deployed Saturday morning.

Regarding your questions:

1. The Range filter has to be enabled, and all it does is control whether you will be notified if a station or object enters or leaves the range around the filter's center point. This is mostly only useful with the sounds plugin, which can report when a station? or object becomes in-range or out of range, i.e., did a mobile station
become close enough to you for you to want to care about it?

2. YAAC does persist column sizing _and_ _order_ until you change the number of columns. So don't size or order them until you finish defining your new columns. Rather than squishing a column down to minimum width, you can drag it to the right to make it? less obvious (or drag the column left to make it more obvious). You do
this by dragging the column headers, same as you do in spreadsheet programs.

3. To add a Mic-E status column, I would have to change the table code. It's doable, but then there's one _more_ column in an already extremely wide table. And the Mic-E information is displayed on the map (both directly as colored circles around the icons,? and as text in the popup window if you click on a station).

4. Loading and saving local Object files allows you to keep a reference copy of a set of Objects you want to plot on a map or share out-of-band with other users. For example, I keep a set of Object definitions I created for the rest stops on the bicycle public service events I work, so the fixed rest stop locations can be
displayed on the YAAC map the same way the mobile SAG vehicles with trackers are displayed.
