Root access after firmware update.
11
Just purchased an X6100 after previous one blew up. Unfortunately it has the latest firmware APP 1.1.9 Base 1.1.8. I can no longer login using either WinSCP or PuTTY I have downgraded to all previous firmware and app versions and the problem is still there. WinSCP hangs on Connecting to host then displays Network Error. Software caused connection abort. PuTTY comes up with the same error. Could they have changed something to make root impossible? Would really love to get the 160Hz firmware and open tx in there. Any help would be appreciated.

R1CBU firmware 0.27.0 WATERFALL station labels
2
Hi Greg, I added an issue on Git but wonder what other may make of this idea? Hi Greg, I am suggesting the ability for the UI to read a disc based station file and populate labels on the waterfall in a way like a regular WEB SDR. This may allow a script to obtain live station data for broadcast radio from sources like shortwave- and radio reference or display saved memories on the WF etc. As you have now made such an amazing job of making the radio a joy on AM SWL, the ability to live pull on air stations would be a massive boost for the radio in my opinion. A script could be setup to pull data to a file, if the UI could pull that and display it on the WF. There are any number of other ways to refine it, but as a baseline that would be good. Cheers Scot

DroidSSTV
2
On the off chance anybody has used the DroidSSTV android app on a Samsung phone ( a Note 8 in my case) coupled with their X6100, has anybody been able to redirect the app's audio-out to the phone's usb-C port. My current setup uses a usb-C to usb-C/A OTG splitter with the C side to the radio's DEV port and the A side to the phone charger. Unlike the FT8CN app, which has CAT and also pipes the app's audio directly to the DEV port (when using the radio's USB-D setting), the DroidSSTV app has no CAT (not a big deal) and doesn't seem able to redirect the app's audio to the phone's usb-c port. The workaround is to key the mic and hold it close to the phone's speaker and it works fine but it would be nice to be able just key the mic and not have to hold it to the phone. The app's help file doesn't address it. I'm guessing it's just a limitation of the app itself but I thought I'd throw it out there to see it anybody else uses the app. Thanks, Bob K1FRA

Replacement Internal Battery
18
Although I haven't yet taken my X6100 apart I suspect that the battery has taken a dump. The radio will boot, and after a minute or so, quicker if I key the microphone, it will shut off. It doesn't matter how long I leave it on charge. The radio works fine on an external battery, but it would be nice to have the capability to run off the internal battery. Can anyone tell me if they've done such a replacement, and where did you purchase the battery? Radioddity says there are no replacement batteries for the radio. Anyone?? Leonard/WV3P

X6100 mod: removable batteryICOM 705/ X6200 style
2
Hi I would like to mod my X6100 in such a way that it accepts a HT-battery pack (Quansheng k5 3800 mAh, USB-C chargeable, for instance) at the back. Same thing as the X6200 or ICOM 705 already have. Needed for this mod (IMHO) is a 3d printed battery-mount/connector that accepts a HT battery, etc, and can replace the original back plate/intenal batteries. It would be nice if the new 3D printeted back-plate also includes space for a small internal fan (inside airflow for efficient forced cooling). Now my problem: I do have some electronic skills, but don't have the skills to design this for a 3D printer ;-( but if anyone has done this already or is working on this idea: could you please share the project here? -- Robert

R1CBU firmware 0.27.0 - FT8 Waterfall
2
I just installed version 0.27.0 firmware today and I am getting familiar with the configuration of this really nice software. I have a question, the radio waterfall looks good but when I run FT8 the water fall is all washed out. The background is almost all green. Would this indicate a level is configured to high? Thanks, Dave Fogel (KE6EX)

Transmit bandwidth

Hi, anyone knows how to extend the transmit ssb bandwidth below 300Hz? The audio sounds very telephone-like. Maybe the r1cbu software can improve on this?

Documentation for X6100 R1CBU firmware
7
Hi. I published a first version of the instruction for this firmware. It's on the WIFI of x6100_gui repository on GitHub: https://github.com/gdyuldin/x6100_gui/wiki I'm pretty sure, that I missed some parts, but I'll continue working on it. Anyway - it might be helpful. -- 73! Georgy // R2RFE

Waterfall / Spectrum Display
4
It would be nice to be able to change the proportions (vertical spread) of the waterfall and spectrum displays. For example to increase the vertical size of the spectrum and reduce the waterfall. The spectrum display frequently show signals going off screen above the top. Maybe I'm missing a configuration item, but I've not been able to find it. GREAT software, thanks for all you're doing to make this a fantastic radio! 73 de W0RDR

Heat sinks do work.
19
I saw a post a day or two ago where someone posted a link to a pair of stick on heat sinks on Amazon. I bought a set, they fit perfectly and work great. The radio is staying just warm to the touch even while doing FT8. Just wanted to say thanks to the poster, but can't find the post again. -- Stephen AC2GW

New Band "8 Meter" addition to code
3
Hi, Regarding : R1CBU firmware 0.27.0 It would be great to have the New band "8 Meter" also available in the code for FT8 etc... Main FT8 frequency is 40.680 Mhz Info : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/8-meter_band Belgium has this band recently added for it's use by Ham Operators. June 1998 Slovenia S5 40.660¨C40.700 MHz 40 kHz of spectrum allocated for beacons February 2005 South Africa ZS 40.675¨C40.685 MHz 10 kHz of spectrum allocated[13][14] July 2013 Slovenia S5 40.660¨C40.700 MHz 40 kHz allocated to the amateur service[15] April 2018 Ireland EI 40.000¨C45.000 MHz 5 MHz of the low VHF spectrum allocated to Irish radio amateurs.[16] August 2023 Belgium ON 40.660¨C40.690 MHz 30 kHz allocated to class A radio amateurs[17] April 2024 Spain EA 40.650¨C40.750 MHz 100 kHz allocated to the amateur service for a period of 18 months. August 2024 Italy I 40.660¨C40.700 MHz 40 kHz allocated to the amateur service up to December 31. I hope this would be possible in a next release of the Code. Thanks and 73's Luke ON2ON

What power level do I dare use for SSTV
6
I'd like to try SSTV sending, but not sure what max power to use. The transmissions are quite long. If I have heat sinks with fans, do I need to worry about a long send at 10 watts? -- Stephen AC2GW

CAT Strings to set up EasyPal?
EasyPal doesn't have a config for the x6100, but people say generally use the IC-718 rig. That almost works. it will initiate PTT, the radio responds. but after about 10 seconds the radio drops PTT, and EasyPall thinks it's still in transmit mode. They let you configure the CAT strings yourself. they give 2 fields for Init, and a PPT on and PTT off Field, and a field for shut down. Has anyone gotten this radio working with EasyPal? Or does anyone know what x6100 specific CAT commands I need to issue? -- Stephen AC2GW
