I would like for Fldigi to add HamCall CD to the list of options. QRZ CD is no longer available, with old past CDs on eBay selling for over $20.00. I live in a rural area where the Internet is often down for extended periods. As a person with a hearing impairment, HamCall CD has enabled me to enjoy Ham Radio. Please consider. God Bless.

Next to the WF button (on the left side) is a slider you can use to adjust the upper signal level. the slider to the right of that one is for signal range. Adjusting these 2 will give you the effect you are looking for.

This 'background' color topic appears to be a misconception:
The waterfall background is not defined separately (as for text windows), but is part of (and actually the very first) color defined in the waterfall palette.

Since usually, brighter colors are more likely to be interpreted as louder signals, most palettes are defined this way, with a black to dark (mostly blue) background and any signals showing as brighter waterfall portions.

In the FLdigi palette definition '.pal' files, there's a list of 9 lines, each consisting of 3 colon (;) separated values (integer from 0 = darkest to 255 = brightest per color channel), as follows:
Line 1: RED;GREEN;BLUE <== 'BACKGROUND' color without signals present
::::::::::::::::::::::
Line 9: RED;GREEN;BLUE <== 'SIGNAL' color for the strongest signals
The lower the values, the darker the color. A mix of (bright) RED and GREEN results in a yellow color, a mix of GREEN and BLUE in CYAN, RED and BLUE in MAGENTA, etc.
If you wish to change the colors of the waterfall, you may do so in the Config - Waterfall - Display Dialog:
A) By loading a pre-defined '.pal' file via the 'Load...' Button.
B) You may also open such a '.pal' file with any simple text editor (e.g. Notepad), edit the values, and save it, potentially under a new name.
C) Or adapt each of the 9 color values manually, by clicking the respective Color Button just below the horizontal waterfall color scheme.
-> In the attached screenshot, the leftmost and rightmost buttons are marked up as 'L' and 'H', for Low and High intensity, respectively.
D) Once you have modified the waterfall color settings, you may save your new personal '.pal' file via the 'Save...' Button. It will then be used until you change it again.

In the attachment, you'll find both a standard and a negative palette example for direct use in FLdigi (via the 'Load...' Button).
The compiled screenshot shows, side by side, the standard and negative palette examples, both in the Config Dialog and, below, in the resulting waterfall. THe shown DigiMode is an RSID followed by a loud MFSK32 signal, about 500 Hz wide, centered at 2800 Hz.
Here, the 'negative' palette is just a descending-sorted version of the original one, thus the background appears yellow, not white. But you can always change the background to pure white or any other color as described above. In other words, the attached negative example is not optimized for best visualization yet.

The attached definitions were called 'contrast' because they feature an intentional non-linearity (knee or step) in the brightness, mainly in-between the 5th and 6th color.
On top, at the very end, at least in the standard definition, the color changes from white to bright yellow, highlighting especially loud signals.
Such a 'step' (which could be defined even more abruptly, or 'steep') helps visualize weak signals above a given noise floor, provided the waterfall brightness setting (the 'upper signal level' field down left below the waterfall) is carefully adjusted to the specific case. This may help view such faint traces better than a truly linear waterfall palette. But remember that the waterfall signal range field (right next to the level field) also allows changing the 'contrast' on the fly.
You may note that the colors chosen here are quite limited, just ranging from blue to white and yellow. This is a personal choice, based on the finding, that a palette with fewer colors usually is easier to interpret than one with a high(er) number of different colors, which may, admittedly, provide more visual information, yet in a harder to 'digest' way.

FLdigi is remarkably flexible in this respect, too, and allows a very versatile adjustment of the useful waterfall visualization to match any user preference.
In my opinion, the standard palettes provide a better visual signal representation, but the negative option may be preferable in certain cases, too.
Hope this will help you find your preferred waterfall color settings.

Hmmm, I've done this a long time ago but maybe I am having a 1d10t moment.....I still cannot get the background of the waterfall to change to any color - it's black!

2. Load new pallete, for instance yellow, click big Save button (for the dialog, not for the pallette)
3. My expectation is the background should now be yellow

Not seeing this issue here. Changed it manually and using presets, exited and restart Fldigi and the waterfall color change was retained. Works as expected using the same version of FLDIGI.

What you describe on one sounds like you may have AGC on in recording device for the 'sound' control panel item for the digirig. Most windows sound devices seeminly default to this being on, some drivers or hw does not have the option to disable it either. If you have not try to uncheck that and see if that helps.
AGC kind of gets in the way of those modes that carrier does not capture the RX like FM and can do what I think you're describing. I could be wrong but I have seen AGC do this.

My main intent is to have a single setup to remote control the ID-5100 for voice and and digital (Winlink). Other similar vintage iCOm profiles work somewhat - but there are a number of issues as discussed in my 21-April-2025 post.? thanks, kiwin

FT-891, DigiRig, FLRIG, FLDIGI, Win 10 laptop, CW mode question.
The setup: FT-891 at 75 Watts, the new DigiRig dr891 (fantastic), FLRIG, FLDIGI, Win 10 laptop, CW mode.

Two concerns. First, when I tune in a CW station the volume for the station is strong. When I initiate a response to the CQing station, the AF volume drops to the point where the other station is almost inaudible.
?
Second concern is that lately the decode function of Fldigi is not very good on the main (yellow) screen. The decoding on the Signal Browser is much better. My sidetone, 600Hz, is matched to the signal on the waterfall at 600, as are the tuning marks.
?
Thoughts, (other than becoming proficient at CW hi).

For what it's worth, not recording for fear of limiting questions is specious. Simply hold questions to the end as is the case with most streamed presentations, then stop recording before taking questions. If you don't want it recorded for other reasons, fine. Just a thought.

Bizarre reason but I may have found my issue. The problem was only
occurring with my IC-7300 and apparently only regularly apparent
when I was running 2 (or 3) instances of fldigi; the first
instance was running THOR22.
I tried numerous ways to discover a cause (many have been
described in this thread) and up until just after I got back from
Xenia, I thought I succeeded seeveral times only to be
disappointed after letting the 2 instance configuration run
longer.
Since my last report:
1. Set the sample rate (Soundcard,
Settings, Sample Rate, set to 22050 (value picked by SWAG) because
it is half the Native rate. This by itself, did not work but I
left it that way (by accident) to do the next step:
2. Ran the FSQ instance first, allowing that
instance to start flrig, then start the THOR22
instance that uses the same instance of flrig - this is
reverse of what I was doing when the problem was there and it
seems to be stable.
To rule out #1, I have reverted to Native sample rate and made
sure that the Windows USB Audio CODEC for both the TX and RX of
the IC-7300 was also set to 44100 (CD rate not DVD, DVD
sample rate is 48000). It seems to have stayed stable.
I will leave things running for a few more days to verify my
revised settings work..
Comment: I am not at all sure why this was happening to me when I
started the THOR22 instance first... and not when I start with
FSQ. I have been working with the AB8FJ FSQ 10.1415 MHz
experimental group where FSQ (at +1500 Hz) is being used to
"auto-assemble" a net group rather than using a net call up.
THOR22 (at +2000 Hz) is currently being used to move data - with flamp.
We also have a third chat channel using JS8Call at +1000 Hz. We
will likely move to THOR25 at +2000 Hz when the mode is
incorporated in a regular non-beta release of fldigi.

to deal with multipath and selective fade on fleet
broadcast and ship to shore HF circuits all the time. I
am familiar with what happens (including the doppler
effect on timing) and love having the specrum scope
features on the new generations of SDR based rigs. All
amateurs should learn to use them properly and interpret
thee pattern. IMO there would be much less QRM-ing going
on as a result.
