FlRig + Kenwood TS-990

Colleagues I would like to receive from you some feedback on FLRig + TS990.
?
1- I can't get an indication of the SWR value, even though it's a value that is purposely high due to antenna change .
?
2 - I can only have the PWR power reading if I click on the PTT button on the FLRIg itself, because if you do it on the ptt of the radio there is no indication. I understand, but I think that by clicking on FLRIG to do PTT, the results should be the same as if I did it only on the radio. If there were a possibility of the reading appearing regardless of where the command to put the radio in TX may come from, it would be very good, what do you think?
?
3 - I'm sorry that using my radio some "Extra Tabs" don't appear, I just have: "Misc" + "A" + "B" + "C". I'm sorry to miss the Bands Tab and others. Couldn't this situation also be contemplated in the TS 990 at leaast those more usual?
?
I apologize for any inconvenience on my part with this request, at the same time if any colleague using FLRig + TS-990 has overcome this difficulty, I would like to comment.
Thank you for your attention

Re: Setting Up FLDIGI (Olivia) with a Yaesu FT 710

Very good info, Daniel!
?
Also, of course it's good to turn off all audio effects or enhancements.? If you run multiple digi mode programs at the same time, you need to uncheck "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device".? You have to do this for the "recording" and the "playback" devices for your radio audio devices.
?
Regarding Windows always changing the default device whenever you plugin your radio? (which is undesired and can't be disabled in Windows), I have been using an open source program called SoundSwitch.? ? It can be configured to detect when Windows changes the default audio device and just switch it back to the devices you want to be the defaults.? I have it always switch back to the computer's speakers and microphone.? It just quietly runs down in the system tray and does what it's supposed to do.? Helps promote a stable configuration for your comms laptop.
?
Website:?
Github:?
?
Here are the instructions that I found on the internet for configuring Soundswitch to do this.? Works great for me.
?

How to stop Windows 10 changing my default sound device?
?
From this post:?
?
There is no way to disable that behavior in Windows 10 without third-party software.
?
However, I found an open source program called SoundSwitch (website | github) that can be configured to forcefully keep your desired audio device selected as a default.
?
In order to set it up to only do that, install it, then open configuration and change following options:
?
- On "Playback" tab don't select anything and uncheck "Hotkey enabled" checkbox
- On "Recording" tab don't select anything and uncheck two "Hotkey enabled" checkboxes
- On "Profiles" tab click "+ Add" button
? ? + "Name": anything (e.g. Force default device)
? ? + "Also switch default device" and "Restore devices when trigger ends" are irrelevant here (have no effect when there is a single forced profile)
? ? + "Notify when profile is triggered": keep if needed
? ? + Set 4 devices which are Default Playback, Default Recording, Default Communication Playback and Default Communication Recording. Note the order.
? ? + In "Available triggers" dropdown select "Force profile" and click "Add" button
? ? + Click "Save" button.
- On "Settings" tab defaults are well suited already. You can change notification option (By default it will show a transparent banner overlay every time it re-selects a device).

Re: Reset my FT450D now I cannot connect via FLRIG

Silly question, I suppose...have you checked the voltage at the radio?

OK I got it working.? The Baud rate had to be set at 38400.? It works on that rate but would not work at 9600 even if the rig were set there as well.
?
Frustrating remembering this stuff after you have slept for years.? LOL

Reset my FT450D now I cannot connect via FLRIG

I must have a setting off in my FT 450D.
?
I have used it for years but my FT 450D has been acting strange so I did a hard reset and cannot seem to connect to FLRig or FLDIGI after the reset.
?
I have the cat in the radio set to 9600 and also in FLRIG and the port is set to 7 as usual but no connection.
?
Can someone remind me of the settings that need to be set in the FT 450D to get it back up and running.? I have forgotten something.

Is it is possible to add CAT/CI-V support for Icom ID-5100 - it seems it is not supported yet. I am looking to help and here is what i tried so far:

Selecting IC-7100 in flrig (and setting ID-5100 CI-V address to 88h) allows some functionality of ID-5100 to work.? ?
Works on ID-5100 in flrig examples:
- change frequency (command 05)
- controlling Squelch (SQL )
- SMETER (command 15 02)
- PTT (ID-5100 command 22 02 yet IC-7100 command is 1C 00)
?
Does not work on ID-5100 examples:
- selecting/switching between A and B : ID-5100 SelectA: 07 D0, SelectB: 07 D1, while IC-7100 uses SelectA: 07 00, SelectB: 07 01
- PWRMETER? (both supposedly have same command: 15 11)

Is it better to try and make/adapt an XML file or? to create a CXX file in the build?

Support for ICOM ID-5100

Hi:
?
Thank you for everyone's volunteer work for flrig/fldigi.
?
Have been looking for CAT/CI-V support of the ICOM ID-5100 - it does not seem to be directly supported yet in flrig/fldigi - wondering how I can help or suggestions? . Investigation so far:
flrig using ID-7100 (and changing the ID-5100's CI-V Address to 88h) allows some functionality. (The ID-7100 seemed to be similar generation since it is 88h while ID-5100 is 8Ch). (the CI-V addresses seem to increment when each new model is introduces)
The available CI-V command numbers seem to vary quite a bit per Icom radio model.
?
Some of the commands appear to be the same between ID-5100 and IC-7100:
Works for ID-5100:
SMETER (15 02) and it displays correctly in flrig
PWRLEVEL (14 0A) sets and reads correctly
SETFREQ
SQL (14 03)
?
Yet others do Not work for ID-5100:
PWRMETER (15 11) seems to be same command, but the the power meter graph does not display anything.
A/B switching control ID-5100: 07 D0 and 07 D1? versus ID-7100: 07 00 and 07 01
?
Is it better to start modifying an XML file? ? (VFO A/B not in the IC-7100 XML file) or does one really need to dive into a rig CXX source file? (SelectA, SelectB)
Appreciate any suggestions.
?
thanks, kiwin

Re: Setting Up FLDIGI (Olivia) with a Yaesu FT 710

The biggest gotcha is with Windows 11.? It adds some extra sound configuration capabilities that require configuring which were not available or required under Windows 10.

In Windows 10, all you had to do for the audio path was select the proper USB Audio Codec entry in fldigi audio settings.? Under Windows 11 this is likely to be insufficient and you may find it doesn't work.

In Windows 11, they added the ability to configure in the Sound Settings for each application which? audio source it should use.? If Windows points the apps to the "default" audio source, which is the default behavior, then it doesn't matter which audio you have configured in fldigi. It will get what Windows gives it.

You will want to go into sound settings and be sure that your USB Audio Codec is not set to be the default for either audio or communications (phone calls).

Then launch the ham radio app (fldigi, js8call, wsjt-x, Vara Modem, etc.) and in the sound settings you can configure those apps to use the rig's USB Audio Codec.

You can also go into sound settings and rename the rig's USB Audio Codec to include the rig name. This is handy if you have multiple rigs so when they are connected you would see "FT-710 Microphone" or "TS-590SG Speaker" instead of the standard "USB Audio Codec" label.

Re: FLRIG and ftdx10

Ok Dave Thanks, that must be the case then. It is actually a third party app talking to flrig over the api port where I noticed. Like KD4C noted that if I use the bands on the radio and/or the buttons for bands in flrig its fine.

Thanks all & 73

Re: FLRIG and ftdx10

I use FLrig extensively with my FTDX-10 and have not noticed the behavior that you mentioned.? I use the "band" buttons on FLrig to change the band on the radio (and to cycle through the band stacking on a single band) and I find that the settings per band (and per stack) are retained.? I have noticed a 2-3 second delay in the "tune" button reflecting actual setting on FLrig, i expect due to timing of the polling of the radio.

Re: FLRIG and ftdx10

The command sent is the "FA....;" sequence for setting vfo A, or "FB...;" for setting vfo B.? The C++ code for the FTdx10 is attached.? Look through it to see the command sequence for the supported functions.? The transceiver operation is probably similar to my FT-710, internally the radio stores all of the parameters for a particular band, but does not access those when an external vfo set command is received.

Hi,

I wonder if there is something in flrig that when you change bands via set vfo that flrig sends the state of tuner on or off to the next band? Is this by intention or lack of some feature? I can change the bands manually via the radio controls and radio recalls the last known state for band instead. But when I do this in FLRIG it sets tune on. This is Rev 2.0.05. Can this be fixed so it recalls what is set in the radio per band?
