New FW: Experimental feature added: value button dragging 27
FW release v1.0-42 One of the disadvantages of the tinySA as signal generator is the absence of a nice big dial you can use to tune the output frequency. So I added a new feature: value button dragging. This works in both output modes. You can touch and hold the frequency button in the middle and when dragging left/right the frequency will decrease/increase with a speed relative to the distance to the center of the button. Can some of you provide feedback if this is usable?

tinySA Un-Boxing 6
My photographic skills are next to nil, but for the group I would like to present my "un-boxing" impression of a pre-production tinySA. 1. Hugen has been producing products for a while now and one of the ways he has set himself apart from other OEM's is with his distinctive packaging. Fly by night cloners don't want to spend extra money reproducing hugen's custom packaging, so it helps buyers to distinguish hugen's original products from reproductions. The tinySA came in a 7.5" x 5" black box. The box has a "brushed" feel to it and has a distinctive gold logo and gold lettering printed on top. If you've purchased a NanoVNA-H4 or NanoVNA-H 3.4 from hugen then you are familiar with this style package. 2. Inside the box is the tinySA with accessories. There are molded compartments for the tinySA and all of the accessories. There was no documentation or the Menu Structure Map that hugen usually includes with the NanoVNA. I expect by the second production run a Menu Map will make an appearance. There is a sticker on the inside that directs the consumer to http://tinysa.org/ which re-directs to the more useful tinySA Wiki page. The front panel of the tinySA has the same distinctive logo as printed on the outside of the box. Both HIGH and LOW ports are labeled and also have bi-directional arrows indicating the input/output functionality of each port. Unlike the NanoVNA, I have no complaints with the multifunction switch on top of the tinySA. It seems more responsive than the same switch on the NanoVNA. I even prefer it to the push buttons on the S-A-A-V2 because of my fat fingers. 3. The included accessories are: a.) Internal battery (1950mAh??); b.) one USB-C to USB-A cable; c.) two 8.5" rg-174?? cables; d.) one sma bullet adapter; e.) one 12" telescoping antenna; and f.) one wrist lanyard/guitar pick stylus. Sorry about the non-metric measurements, at my age its too late to learn new tricks. 4. The telescoping antenna is a thoughtful inclusion. It allows beginners to use the tinySA by exploring the FM band and other radio bands without purchasing additional accessories. It is also useful for sniffing out sources of EME in the shack. 5. The rear of the tinySA has appropriate product information including: Frequency range, power specification, hardware version and serial number. My overall impression of the tinySA "un-boxing" experience was very positive. It gave me a good feeling about the tinySA even before turning it on. Erik and hugen did drop the ball and let the packaging be an after thought. - Herb

New FW release: Corrected rounding error in level calibration 6
New FW released version v1.0-49 Changes: - Corrected a rounding error in the level calibration causing up to 1dB level error Due to a data format change you will lose your configuration information. If you have made any changes you should redoc these after updating. Both high and low mode level calibration should be re-done using either the built-in calibration source or an external known level signal. The calibration error off factory should be less then 2dB so after this FW update your levels should be within 2dB without calibration.

Other tinySA suppliers 6
Erik, Other suppliers of the tinySA have shown up on eBay and Taobao. I was asked if they are legitimate or not. I replied that they are probably tinySA's bought in bulk from hugen and being re-sold. Do you know if that is correct or not? - Herb

Reload FW_White screen 3
Hi Erik My fault! I tried to upload the firmware, using the usual tool, but found the fw was not readable... So I simply made it readable - 'now there's the problem' It then did something and now my dear NanoSA has a white screen only... Can one reboot it like the old NanoVNA can, by shorting the two pins - hope so! How can I restore my NanoSA back to normality? Help

Spectrum display 5
Hello Erik Got my unit today and have already uploaded your latest release. I like it ! I have yet to look through your code to get to know it (can;t resist) but I was just wondering about the tall DC peak at the start/left of the FFT display. That normally indicates a DC offset of the Real/Imag input values to the FFT. Do you measure and cancel out the DC offset when we do a simple High-Low through cable calibration I wonder ? Cathy

External Attenuator 2
When I use an external attenuator, is there a place in the menu to inform the equipment and does it do the necessary calculations with the external attenuator? Alexandre Sell PY3KV

Tiny SA arrived today. 22
My TinySA arrived today. I unpacked it in front of the DHL driver while he waited as I told him, it it was damaged I wanted to show him. It came in a TyVAC envelope inside a TYVAC envelope. Then 1 wrap of small bubble, and a brown cardboard box. Inside it was wrapped again in small bubble wrap, and the presentation box was perfect. I signed and went inside. I had read that you need to check it before signing. And I did. I immediately put it on a charger 5V @ 0.240A measured.. In 2 hours it was fully charged. I took it over to a friend to show him, and found the only negative so far.. THE SCREEN IS TOTALLY WASHED OUT IN KANSAS SUNLIGHT. Yet in my truck it was readable on the dash.. So if planning to use it in the field better devise a "viewing box." Now time to read everything about it..as my intention is to first do some cable leakage testing in the area.

Error building TinySA-saver on Linux (AHRL v24/Ubuntu 18.04.4) 10
Hi Everybody, I'm trying to build the tinysa-saver PC software for Linux which I downloaded from github. I'm trying to run it on "Andy's Ham Radio Linux", which is heavily based on Ubuntu 18.04.4. I'm trying to follow the instructions from here: https://github.com/erikkaashoek/tinySA-saver Here's what I've done, and the resulting error: # cd /usr/local/src # git clone https://github.com/erikkaashoek/tinysa-saver # cd tinysa-saver # python3.7 -m pip install . Processing /usr/local/src/tinysa-saver Collecting PyQt5 (from TinySASaver==0.2.2) Using cached https://files.pythonhosted.org/packages/8c/90/82c62bbbadcca98e8c6fa84f1a638de1ed1c89e85368241e9cc43fcbc320/PyQt5-5.15.0.tar.gz Complete output from command python setup.py egg_info: Traceback (most recent call last): File "<string>", line 1, in <module> File "/usr/lib/python3.7/tokenize.py", line 447, in open buffer = _builtin_open(filename, 'rb') FileNotFoundError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/tmp/pip-build-yf_tyxmr/PyQt5/setup.py' ---------------------------------------- Command "python setup.py egg_info" failed with error code 1 in /tmp/pip-build-yf_tyxmr/PyQt5/ I installed several packages with PyQt5 in the name, to no avail. Any helpful suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks, and 73, Andy KB1OIQ

tinySA also for linux distris? 11 #feature_request #tinysa
Hello Erik, do you plan to release also a linux version of the tinySA software? This would be a great idea for us linux users... I am personally using debian buster 10.5 and do not have problems with running tinySA-Saver or nanoVNA-Saver but the windows software seems to be equpped with more features. I am still waiting for my tinySA and I am happy to get it in my hands. It cannot last a long time cause the parcel is already in Luxembourg :) best regards Chris

Video bandwidth vs. RBW setting? 5
Hi all, This is a _fantastic_ device. I'm having tons of fun. Quick UI question: for a normal SA, there is the video bandwidth (VBW) setting independent of the RBW to average down the noise. Where is this equivalent function located? I'm sure it is in an averaging setting, but having trouble finding it. 73 W1PJE

frequency correction 15 #tinysa
What does the menu item 'correct frequency' under the 'expert config' menu do? The frequency displayed by the marker is 159.861 MHz for an actual input frequency of 160 MHz. Under the same 'expert config' there is an 'actual power' item. What does it do? The level calibration seems to be a fixed table with interpolation. Is it possible to modify that? The level is consistently off by 0.5 to 1dB. Gary

Jumping base line 9
Hi Erik I was wondering what you think might cause the base line to jump up and down like this. I'm using your latest firmware as of today, but it was the same with your previous firmware version. I've done the self test and the level calibration with a through lead. All OK. Their are no nearby strong signals (that I can find), it's on it's own little antenna. It also sometimes does it with no antenna connected. I've not changed any setting but set it to high input and the start/stop frequency. All other settings as default.
