Backup Battery for SLE 5700 5
Hi, I'm looking to see if anyone here has a preferred or a "go-to" type of battery that you use for your repeaters. I'm installing an SLR 5700 in a temperature-controlled room. How long do I need the repeater to run on batteries? That really depends on the price of each battery and how many I can afford to buy. I have been very satisfied with Echo-Worthy products on Amazon for other ham radio activities but not sure if they're the right choice for a repeater and also if they fit the SLR 5700 internal battery charger. Also, when you have batteries connected to a repeater for backup power, do you put any other components in between the battery and the repeater? Perhaps for overcharge or over-discharge protection:? All suggestions and recommendations would be appreciated. Best, Sepehr N6IRN

Kenwood NXR-800 Repeaters For Sale 3
I have several of these very cool, high spec, 1U repeaters available. If you are looking to get into NXDN or just want a high quality repeater this is something to consider. They will easily program into the ham band but will need some VCO tweaking. I can do that for you if you provide RX and TX frequencies. These are only 5W units although a power module swap could make this into a 25W-50W unit. $500 including shipping to lower 48. Thanks!

Are Quantar Modules Plug n Play? 4
Friends, I have a Quantar that has VHF R2 modules. I would like to try a VHF R1 Module in it. Seems unlikely, but is it as simple as powering down and swapping the modules? Thanks! Jeff KC8VFN

another RSS question... 15
Hi Folks. Has anyone used RSS in a virtual machine? I've got RSS 3.03.03, running in a 32bit WinXP under Oracle VirtualBox, inside Win10. I can read the station, it gets to 100% and then hangs, just the hourglass. I can read all of the Service data. I understand there may be issues when writing to the station, but I'll cross that proverbial bridge when I get there... Thanks. Don W7OXR

Manual Channel Selection on a Quantar Station 3
Channel selection on my MSF5000 station is easily accomplished from the from panel, but that does not seem to be the case on a Quantar. How is it done? Thanks! Jeff KC8VFN

Recommended coax and retailer 3
Hi, As I continue the work on my local VHF repeater, I'm looking for some hardline for a 50' run. Right now, I'm looking at LDF4-50A from ABR. Does anyone have any experience with them or have any other recommended retailers? Best, Sepehr N6IRN

Mtr2000 blinking red then solid red 2
So after the fiasco with the blue mad cable which never worked for me btw, had a chance to program the mtr2000. It’s an uhf station 40 watt and it was originally all green when I first got it. Read the file and saved it. Now when I program it goes into a boot loop of sort and then eventually goes red. just nice have I managed to get all green but lost it. The error log says I have an error but new to this platform I am unsure.

VHF Range 2 Quantar 7
Friends, I have a gold colored VHF Range 2 Quantar on my bench. I am using RVN5002 Version R14.10.00. My Quantar is currently programmed for frequencies in the mid-150s. After powerup the RX and TX VCOs are happy and the station appears to be green. I did a quick test to see if it would be happy with a TX frequency of 146.895 MHz and a receive frequency of 146.295 MHz. With those frequencies, the TX and RX VCOs failed to lock which was disappointing but not much of a surprise. I wrote the original commercial band code plug back to the unit and it is happy again. I realize we really need the Range 1 VHF equipment, but that seems to be rather scarce. The range 2 equipment is readily available to me. I have noted that may HAMS seem to be using the Range 2 units for pairs above 146 MHz. Four of the five repeaters on our system are above 146 MHz, so I was hoping to use this. Is it practical? I have a fair amount of equipment including an HP8935 and a 8920 and a decent RF lab to work in. Is it safe to assume all the VHF Quantars under $1000 on ebay are Range 2 units. Most of the vendors either do not know or do not want to advertise what they actually have. I could not find even one that claims to be VHF Range 1. Thanks! Jeff KC8VFN

Testing a WACOM WP-678-R2 with a Nanovna-F 11
Gentlemen, What is the "Proper" way to tune a 443mhz bpbr Wacom ? S11 with a 50 ohm load at the antenna port or S21 ? I can "see" ( and tune ) the notch on S11 , but the notch is symmetrical. The capacitor doesn't seem to "band pass" ( at least on S11 ). the capacitor does affect the notch so it is in circuit. Thanks in Advance Don W4DNR

Steps to setup a MTR2000 internal repeater mode 13
I have a MTR2000 matched with a Arcom controller. I would like to test out the MTR in repeater mode only (without the Arcom). Not only would this allow me to run the MTR without the controller (in case it goes down) but also want to do some audio comparisons. I have tried through the software and have been unable to do this. I am sure that I am just missing a step here or there to make this happen. Could someone please post the steps or point me to where I can read the steps online. So far I have not found this. TIA Robert KD4YDC

I tried making the cable myself and could not get the pin out correctly

Motorola R2600 VGA Output 36
So some of you may remember I made a post about a year ago trying to get an external monitor working on my Motorola R2600 service monitor. I had hacked up a VGA cable and soldered it to a DB9 connector and managed to find an Acer monitor model that just plugged and played with the video output of the service monitor. Well, I was never happy with it and it was always fuzzy and RF would get into it occasionally. So I attempted to make a new cable using CAT6 and a DB15 connector. Well, that didn't work at all and my once working monitor said cable not connected. I was stupid and threw away the old cable and now it's gone so I can't go back to a known working cable. After this didn't work, I bought one of those Chinese GBS8200 video converter boards and ran the RGB, ground, and sync lines to it and the board still said no input signal. So now I'm scratching my head, did I do something wrong or did the video output on my 2600 up and die. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions on what to do? This is the service monitor I use on my bench and I liked having the big external display to work on things.

Vertex Alignment Cable T9101628 or equivalent
Am looking for the 25-pin DSUB alignment cable that goes with Vertex FIF-12 programmer and CT-49 alignment software. Have the FIF-12 interface and frequency programming interface, but not this cable. The part number above is a Motorola replacement part number, but not clear if the connector on this cable is small DIN-type or larger DIN-9 (older part number was AAF26X002). My FIF-12 uses smaller connector similar to later PC-keyboard so I'd need the smaller DIN connector cable for that one. I also have a FIF-8 programmer but no alignment cable for that one either (believe this is Vertex cable CT-88 and it uses the larger DIN-connector). Not sure if CT-49 software would work with this older interface even if I had the cable, but VX-5500 radios are sitting in the garage waiting after re-writing the code to get them down to ham frequencies, so any help to finish the job and get them tuned up would be appreciated!

Kenwood TK 8360 question 5
Hi all, I have several Kenwood TK8302 mobile radios That need to be realigned every couple of megahertz to work in the 440 ham band which is kind of annoying. Going to use those radios for links on my repeater system. My real question here today is I'm looking at a Kenwood TK8360 UHF radio that says it covers 450 to 520. Is this radio going to cover the 440-2470 amateur band entirely without having to realign the VCO all the time? I have that TK8180 which covers the entire UHF amateur radio band with no problem at all, just looking for another radio that would do the same thing. Looking for commercial radios. Andrew 7/8" Hardline Connector Needed 22
I have a length of the older SOLID CENTER CONDUCTOR 7/8” hardline and need one connector. I am not particular about the gender but an “N” female would be most useful. If one is available please contact me off list with your price including shipping to 34221. I would like to have this mid week next week if possible. If you do not HAVE a connector but know what MODEL NUMBER this type is, it might also be helpful. The cable is NOT the very old SPIRAL type but is the concentric circle type solid center. Thanks in advance. Milke, K4CVL

Recommended VHF transceiver to use on NB 12.5 kc splinter frequencies 9
Hi folks, I'm in Wa. state and WWARA has authorized me a NB rpt. pair 146.6875 out / 146.0875 in. (2.5 kc / 12.5 kc ch. spacing) My rpt. is a Motorola Quanter. I now am searching for compatible radios that will operate on the "splinter" fxs. The radios must have the proper "IF" filters on rec. for NB. I have heard that the Motorola CM300 "May" be usable for NB use. I have a few Mot ASTRO Spectra mobile trunk mount radios. I have read that if they are labeled "2.5 kc" they may be usable. I have not checked the Astro Spectra radios yet. (FCC id #) Any ideas of compatible radios for me to tell our radio club about? (So they can utilize the rpt...LOL) I appreciate any guidance or transceiver advice. Tim AE7TH Vashon Is. Wa.
