Bluemax 49 crap cable and mtr2000
Ordered one of these cables to get the Mtr to read and after spending 3 hours of my life I will never get back cable refused to install.?
anyone else have this issue where no matter what you do as an experienced computer user, not get the cable to install.? either it’s the language is wrong or just won’t work.? a 3 computers all windows 32 bit with a com port.? I tried making the cable myself and could not get the pin out correctly |
Did you get a counterfeit?? Or is this on win xp? Sometimes you can get this to work on Windows 10 but other than that the old radio software will not work on Windows 10 and definitely will not work on Windows 11 especially with all the damn security updates.? The two blue max 49 cables I got literally just worked on the win XP machine dedicated for older radio programming. On Wed, Mar 19, 2025, 16:56 TheCuecat via <dasbugle=[email protected]> wrote:

Part number of cable?? ? RS-232(DB-9 or DB-25 on PC?) to radio adapter (native RS-232 port on PC) or using a USB-to-radio adapter cable? Another way of asking that - does the (un-named make/model) PC have a legit serial port or are you using a USB-serial cable? If it's a legit PC RS-232 port to radio cable adapter, or otherwise, might or not be simply defective, or the OS does not recognize the PC's Serial port.?? What specific version of Windows ?? 3.1, XP, 7, 8, 10, 11? What does Windows Device Manager indicate for I/O ports, if any?? ?Associated drivers - Intel, Broadcom, Prolific, or generic 8250/16550 serial I/O chip? If you've got port conflicts or mis-assigned ports that the Moto software cannot use, there are means to change the COM port assigned in Windows. If it's a USB-serial-port adapter - you'll need FTDI Windows drivers (specific to your OS) which almost never fail to install.?? Write ups about the 'Prolific' USB-serial deceptions and Windows I/O port issues, and details of Device Manager: ? ? (I spent many years working with most/all genre of PCs, serial I/O programs, hardware diagnostic s/w for same, Windows and user support issues, wrote a book about PC I/O schemes.) BlueMax does NOT use the problematic Prolific USB-to-RS232 chip and their non-driver crap.? However if you've had a Prolific device installed prior, it could leave you a mess in Windows to clean up. The BlueMax owner is a local ham.? Reputable.? Has many various models of radios and software to develop and test with.? Call him. |
Excuse me?? To talk to the MTR takes a RJ45 cable to DB9 adapter.. I wired one up myself in 5 minutes that works. I've never had a problem with Blue Max 49 as far as his cables are concerned. The MTR 2000 RSS only talks to Com1 or COM 2... I use a USB to DB9 cable and make sure it's set for one of those ports.. Only three wires needed as the MTR is a RS232 port already but uses a RJ45 jack instead of a DB9 .. TX data, RX data and Gnd.? 9600 baud with no hand shaking.. Chris WB5ITT? Ok so this is the setup. IBM Lenovo laptop 697 MHz with 0.97 megs of ram 1 gig basically.?
running windows xp 32 bit? no true com port but two usb available.? Installed all the different persons of the ftdi drivers and each got an error. One of them being a language pack difference. One of them say it will work when you reboot and then it goes back find new drivers.? I have ordered from blue max directly and have not had an issue. This just maybe a crap cable.? now the original programming computer is a old dell running windows 98 ?with 528 megs of ram and that has true com port. But mtr rss is wi does only 32 bit. So I’m in this cycle. I need the newer machine but the cable don’t work and I can make a cable for the old machine with true com port but the rss.i newerEither way has anyone had the issue where the drivers just refuse to workfor the cable for this particular machine.? and please do not email on grammatical errors. My phone likes to remove words and add what it likes to add? |
Likely an issue with drivers and/or OS versions as described above?? I have NEVER had a Bluemax49er cable failure to work as described.? They are my FIRST choice for cables with any of my projects.? Perhaps an operator error in understanding the limitations of the software and OS?? Just askin'..... You don't mention that you contacted Bluemax49.? I've purchased several cables from him and had no problem.? He was good about answering questions.

I emailed blue max for a return but have better and worse news at the same time.?
made my own cable with the db9 cable. Worked like a charm.? issue arises….? can read the station and see all the stuff but the rss will NOT allow me to edit channel information. What’s up with that? anyone else ever see this? If so how did you fix it.? |

As others have said MTR2000's CPS only runs on a Windows 32bit OS. I have a Windows 10 Pro 32bit installation that works fine using a USB to Serial adapter, I have an old Windows XP Pro computer with a conventional serial port that works fine and a Window 10 Pro 64 bit laptop that I run a VirtualBox VM running Windows XP Pro with a USB to Serial adapter which also works fine (for other 32 bit CPS's too).
For a cable I use a CAT5 patch cable to a RJ-45 to DB-9F adapter with just the 3 needed wires connected.? When I worked for an MSS to simplify the cables I had to carry, I had a bunch of these same adapters configured and labeled for different radios and equipment that required serial connections with or without a RIB.? Wicked easy to setup and you don't even need a soldering iron! (Although an extraction tool is handy if you screw up) Assuming your Windows installations are OK, 99% of the time it is a driver or driver installation issue.? Check the device manager to start with.? Also as others have also mentioned Prolific drivers especially new ones can be problematic and drive you nuts. see: P.S. - I too have purchased a couple cables from BlueMAx49 with no issues. I just bought a BluMax cable and plugged in to my WinXP/32 laptop.? I can read/write an MTR-2000 just fine.? A friend has another MTR-2000 with BluMax cable with Win7/32 and he cannot read or write... swapped just my XP/32 and cable and could read/write just fine.? Swapped my cable, set proper com on his Win7/32 laptop and it read/write just fine!!!? Bad cable????? I brought the cable home to reset the drivers before calling it bad...? never had one fail before...?? |
