Re: Kam Plus has two different Btexts? Status Checks?

Here's my VHF beacon:
N0BN>BEACON,AB0VZ-7/V: <UI>:
N0BN-1/B N0BN-2/G N0BN-7/N; Bailey,CO DM79hi; Colorado R2D3/R1D6; HF-VHF Gateway:145.050
N0BN>BEACON,AB0VZ-7*/V: <UI>:
N0BN-1/B N0BN-2/G N0BN-7/N; Bailey,CO DM79hi; Colorado R2D3/R1D6; HF-VHF Gateway:145.050
?
My HF beacon:
N0BN>BEACON/H: <UI>:
N0BN-1/B N0BN-2/G N0BN-7/N; Bailey,CO DM79hi; Colorado R2D3/R1D6; HF-VHF Gateway:145.050
?
Another set of HF and VHF beacons:
?
N0BN>ID/H: <UI>:
N0BN/R BAILEY/D N0BN-2/G N0BN-1/B N0BN-7/N
N0BN>ID,AB0VZ-7*/V: <UI>:
N0BN/R BAILEY/D N0BN-2/G N0BN-1/B N0BN-7/N
?
I just figured out the latter are the HID identifications transmitted every 9.5 minutes if HID is on.? I turned it off.
?
So anyway, as I asked before, let me know if anyone notices anything non-standard about my stations or transmissions!
?
Thanks again!

Re: Kam Plus has two different Btexts? Status Checks?

Daniel,
the BTEXT is the same for both ports, unlike most Params where they are HF/VHF
there is only one BT.
would be nice though.

Kam Plus has two different Btexts? Status Checks?

I've just set up my previously owned KAM Plus for HF and VHF operation, having disconnected my SignaLink with EasyTerm and SoundModem for HF, and PK232 for VHF.
?
I think the KAM Plus is properly operating but I'm still learning its parameters.? Right now I have an earlier version of my Btext on VHF and a newer version on HF.? I don't see any way to correct this or set up the same or different Btexts for the different modes.? Any suggestions/
?
Also, if anyone sees my signals or connects to me and notices any non-standard operation, please let me know.
?
Thanks and 73,

?
?
from Kantronics manual:
?
NODE - The term node refers to a network node such as a G8BPQ, X1-J, or NET/ROM
node. Non-network nodes such as KA-Node, conference bridges, and digipeaters do
not apply to this concept of operation.

NEIGHBOR NODE - A neighbor node is a node that your node can connect to "direct",
without using an intermediate node. Note that digipeater operation is allowed (2 max.).
This means that a node can be "out of range", but can still be considered a neighbor
since the connect path does not use any other nodes. All known neighbor nodes are
displayed with the ROUTES command.

DISTANT NODE - A distant node is a node that is too far away from you to connect to
"direct", requiring the use of one or more network nodes to reach. Distant nodes will not
be displayed with the ROUTES command.

DESTINATION NODE - A destination node is a node that your node knows how to
connect to, either directly (i.e. neighbor node), or, in the case of a distant node, by using
one or more intermediate network nodes. All known destination nodes (neighbor nodes
and distant nodes) are displayed with the NODES command,
All neighbor nodes are destination nodes, but all destination nodes are not
necessarily neighbors. Destination nodes will automatically appear in the nodes table
by virtue of your node monitoring your neighbor node broadcasts. A neighbor node will
automatically be listed in your nodes table and routes table. Neighbor node broadcasts
also contain information about other nodes that you may or may not be able to hear
"direct". These distant nodes will also be listed in your nodes table if they pass the
criteria for being listed (MINQUAL), and if there is sufficient room for them to be listed
(NETDEST).?
?
?
?
"ADDNODE [alias:]call port neighbor [via digi1[,digi2]] quality [obscnt]

This command is used to add a new destination node or to modify an existing
destination node in your nodes table. If the optional obscnt (obsolescence count) is set
to 0, the node will be permanently listed in the nodes table. Such a route will not be
updated or dropped from the nodes table by the K-Net auto-routing logic. If the neighbor
node callsign entered is not in the neighbor routes table, it is added with the default
quality for the specified port. As long as MINQUAL is equal to or less than QUALITY,
destination nodes (neighbor nodes as well as distant nodes) will be added automatically
to your nodes table as neighbor node broadcasts are received.
?
EXAMPLE - Addnode KSLVN:WD0EMR-1 1 WK5M-1 200
?
K-Net responds: Node added with new route
?
This adds the KSLVN node with the netcall of WD0EMR-1 to the nodes table. KSLVN is
available on port 1 (1200 baud) of the KPC-3 using the WK5M-1 (netcall) node as your
neighbor. An initial quality of 200 has been assigned to the new node. Unless "locked
in" with the ADDROUTE command, this path quality will most likely change since it is
recalculated based on node broadcasts that are received. In this case, WK5M-1 was a
previously unknown neighbor and the new route was automatically added.
?
EXAMPLE - Addnode WLAW:W0XI-1 1 W0XI-1 200
?
K-Net responds: Node added with new route
This would add the WLAW node with the netcall of W0XI-1 to the nodes table. In this
case, W0XI-1 is also the neighbor and is available on port 1 with an initially assigned
quality of 200.
?
EXAMPLE - Addnode YORK:WA0CPS-1 1 WK5M-1 70
?
K-Net responds: Node added
Downloaded from www.Manualslib.com manuals search engine
117
?
This would add the YORK node with the netcall of WA0CPS-1 to the nodes table. Since
WK5M-1 is an existing route (neighbor) a new route is not added.
?
EXAMPLE - Addnode CRT:KG5DT-1 1 WK5M-1 700
?
K-Net responds: Node added
?
In this case, the optional obscnt (obsolescence count) has been specified as zero. This
special case is useful in the event that your node is not able to hear this neighbor's node
broadcasts (i.e. if a digipeater(s) or gateway is being used). Normally, if a node is not
heard from for a period of time, the obsolescence counter will eventually drop it out of
the nodes table. However, this node (CRT) will remain in the nodes table permanently,
unless removed by the sysop

Re: Need Clarification: Kantronics ADDNODE command

Perhaps the Addroute command is what you want.
to lock a route use
Addroute port neighbor call quality !
example
Addroute 1 WD0EMR-7 200 !
would add or change WD0EMR-7 to your routes table with a fixed quality and locks that route, so it will not age away.
it also assures that any connects to a distant node using that route will take the ¡°hard coded¡± route even if another route comes into existence due to propagation changes. I think this is what you want if I¡¯m reading you correctly. ?The ! Toggles the route into/out of locked mode above.?

Re: Need Clarification: Kantronics ADDNODE command

Very good, Jim. I respect that a node will automatically add heard broadcast nodes, but for the sake of understanding the syntax, my next question is:
?
Your?Example
Addnode KSLVN:WD0EMR-7 1 WK5M-7 200
?
I now get that KSLVN is the destination.? However, I'm not sure what role WK5M-7 plays in this scenario. Maybe I'm getting the destination & neighbor terminology confused...
?
Is it this?
My Home Node ---> WK5M-7 -----> KSLVN (destination)
But that would make WK5M-7 the digi....
?
OK - Let's say if I just wanted to add KSLVN as a neighbor AND destination (and make path perm)
Is it this?
Addnode KSLVN:WD0EMR-7 1 WD0EMR-7 200 0
?
To explain my brain, I want to lock in a backbone data only RF path from a KPC-3+ node to a BPQ node port which are both "neighbors." I think you're going to say, it's not necessary if the RF path is strong and the QUALITY is higher than the MINQUAL. But this is an exercise in understanding the ADDNODE command, so please be patient with me. :-)
?
Finally, maybe I'm using the wrong command. Maybe I should be using ADDROUTE instead of ADDNODE to accomplish the above.
?
Your comments please?

Hi Chris,
The alias:node is the destination node you want to add to your nodes table, normally this happens automatically when your node hears node broadcasts. ?The only time you need to do this manually is when the node is out of range but you add it and specify how to reach it, either by adding another node or digi or two that can reach it as the neighbor.
The neighbor is a reachable node or digi that will connect your node to the destination node.
If this neighbor call is not in your routes table it will be added.
If you set obscnt to zero, the node will be a permanent node in the nodes table, ie it will not be removed because node broadcasts have not been heard over time.

Port, you are correct about the ports.

Example
Addnode KSLVN:WD0EMR-7 1 WK5M-7 200

This adds destination node kslvn to your nodes table and if needed adds wk5m-7 to the routes table.

Addnode KSLVN:WD0EMR-7 1 WK5M via KI0BK 200 0

This adds destination node kslvn using a digi to reach neighbor node wk5m and makes this a permanent path

Hope this helps

Need Clarification: Kantronics ADDNODE command

Hello Group,
?
I understand that the ADDNODE command is used to add a new destination node or to modify and existing destination node in one's node table. However, I'm hoping someone could clarify the syntax as well as the meaning of "destination" and "neighbor."
?
ADDNODE [alias:]call port neighbor [via digi 1[,digi2]] quality [obscnt]
?
Is the "alias:call" the parameter for my own node??
Neighbor, I would assume would be the "other guy's" node - let's call it W6GUY - that is within my RF range.
But? if W6GUY was out of my range, I could still list him in my nodes table as long as I had a station in between us to Digi, right?
?
Port, I would assume is always 1 on a KPC-3+ unless I'm using a 9612 in which case the high speed 15 pin connector port would be port 2, right?
?
So, for example, would this be right for my neighbor W2AH?
ADDNODE 440NOD:WW2BSA-5 1 W2AH-7 70
?
and this example if there was a digi?
ADDNODE 440NOD:WW2BSA-5 1 W2AH-7 W2LV-2 70
?

Re: New to HF packet

Glad that this is working for you.
I keep my Network 105 setup running 24/7.
I will be gone for a bit this morning and then also for most of the afternoon.
I do not send a beacon on Network 105.
But I certainly will welcome any messages in my mailbox there.
I have a KAM XL running there.
You can connect to my mailbox at WB9WKJ-1.
I like to see that Mail LED flashing on the front panel of the KAM XL.
Have fun and 73's.

Re: New to HF packet

Thank you Randy, got all that, its just frequency i am confused about.?
?

Re: New to HF packet

One more parameter to look at. After a reset and/or new from the factory the baud rate for HF packet is set at 0. This disables Packet at Port 1 of HF.
I encountered this and there were no LED's even lighting up on the front panel bar graph in this situation.
I gave the command HBAUD 300/1200. This sets the HF baud rate at 300 and VHF at 1200.

Re: New to HF packet

Thank you Randy, I will give it a try. I am going to switch to my Flex6600 for now so I can see waterfall (tx/rx) and learn what i am doing, then switch back to 891. Will see what happens. I didnt think MARK and SPACE has anything to do with packet, in the KAN XL manual it says: (Most of the non-packet HF modes use two tones, a MARK and a SPACE, to send and receive data.
This includes RTTY, ASCII, AMTOR and its variations, PACTOR, and G-TOR. CW and PSK31
modes are tuned in a different manner. )
Never stop learning in this hobby :)
Thank you, Rosti?

Re: New to HF packet

Good morning Rosti,

I had the same scenario with my first KAM XL. If you are using "Data LSB" mode, make sure you have the tone pair correct. It should be a Mark tone of 1600 hz and a Space tone of 1800 hz.
Of course, this means that the center frequency is 1700hz below the "dial" frequency of 14.105.0. From the cmd: prompt give the commands mark 1600 and space 1800.
Now here is where I ran into problems with the XL. When I would give the display command, it would show the changes that I made. But I still had to have the dial frequency set at 14.105.5 in order to properly decode in receive. It was as if the XL was still set at the LSB RTTY tone pair of 2125/2295. Maybe I am missing something here. I discovered my work around to that was to give the commands for the proper tone pair, Then I would close out my terminal program that I was using. Then I would power down the XL and bring the power back up and open the terminal program to start over. That put me at the right dial frequency of 14.105.0. If I misunderstand how this all works, please correct me. Also, HF has been pretty poor lately. However, there are some big packet nodes on Network 105 that still make it through by me.

73,
Randy WB9WKJ

New to HF packet

Hello, I am using KAM XL for VHF and HF, VHF setup was easy but I cant figure out that frequency I have to set my radio to for 14.105, I am using Yaesu 891, mode set to D-LSB. Audio, PTT all ok, I just think I am off freq. to receive packets. Maybe someone can help me with it, thank you
Rosti, KC3FQF

Re: Jamming???

Yeah, the number of Winlink stations has exploded in recent years.? Here's just a partial list of Winlink stations (if they're wideband) whose signals overlap the Net105 center-freq.? That's just the VARA mode, there's also Pactor and ARDOP.
