Re: New to HF packet

Good morning Rosti,

I had the same scenario with my first KAM XL. If you are using "Data LSB" mode, make sure you have the tone pair correct. It should be a Mark tone of 1600 hz and a Space tone of 1800 hz.
Of course, this means that the center frequency is 1700hz below the "dial" frequency of 14.105.0. From the cmd: prompt give the commands mark 1600 and space 1800.
Now here is where I ran into problems with the XL. When I would give the display command, it would show the changes that I made. But I still had to have the dial frequency set at 14.105.5 in order to properly decode in receive. It was as if the XL was still set at the LSB RTTY tone pair of 2125/2295. Maybe I am missing something here. I discovered my work around to that was to give the commands for the proper tone pair, Then I would close out my terminal program that I was using. Then I would power down the XL and bring the power back up and open the terminal program to start over. That put me at the right dial frequency of 14.105.0. If I misunderstand how this all works, please correct me. Also, HF has been pretty poor lately. However, there are some big packet nodes on Network 105 that still make it through by me.
