Recent w1hkj site changes, and Flrig sources.
13
Hi. After a bit of a hiatus with the computer here.. (I lost the ability to use a GUI desktop, as a "non-root user"!) Anyway. I'm re-establishing things so I can once again work on Flrig and tweak a few things for my TS-870s, and continue to add a back-end for the IC-R9000. (At least my backup strategy worked!) I had been working with the Flrig alpha, 2.0.05.75, and was in the process of migrating my work to 2.0.05.85 when I had the computer issues in late November 2024. (long story to whoever wants it! I still don't know what happened, or why, but I only recently got it flying straight and level again.) Anyway. I read that Dave (HKJ) migrated his website from a .com to a .org And indeed, if you go to the .com site, there is a big message to go to the .org Not a problem. But... Where are the up-to-date / latest sources for Flrig? (I was wanting to check for later alpha release for Flrig, later than 2.0.05.85 that I have.) The new site lists a release of 2.0.04, but there was a 2.0.05 released, and later alphas present after that. The new site seems not to have any Flrig sources at https://www.w1hkj.org/alpha/flrig/ other than:- 1.3.22.14 ! What happened to the 2.0.05 release, and later alpha's ? However, The links on Dave's .org site to sourceforge work, where at least the Flrig release v2.0.05 is present! Anyway, "Confused of North Bucks UK" is now off to watch some mindless drivel on TV, as I've frazzled the faded grey cell a bit too much today. 73. Dave G0WBX.

Flrig-2.0.05.93 Erroneous behavior with Yaesu FT736r.
Hi again. For now I've given up trying to understand the weird "pot-luck access" to Dave's new site. There is something truly janky going on outside of my control... Enough of that... A new(ish) issue... Same project and version. (Flrig 2.0.05.93) This time with the ancient FT-736r. (I say new(ish) as I noticed it first I think with an earlier alpha, just before I lost the ability to login as "me" to my own computer. Insufficient rights for the Xserver to access hardware ports 0x00 to 0x35 or something.) Anyway... Firstly, the "base release" of 2.0.05, works very well. But the alpha .93 (and I think some earlier ,7x version) have a problem when recalling a "Flrig Memory" where the rig goes to the wanted frequency just fine, but a fraction of a second after that, Flrig itself reverts to displaying the old VFO frequency that was in force before the memory was recalled, while the radio stays at the new (recalled) frequency. Of course, This radio is not capable of returning a query for it's set working frequency. That, I think is part of the problem, as something in Flrig expects to be able to update it's display, based on what the radio has just been set to as a result of a Memory Manager recall. (As it does with other rigs just fine.) "Tuning via Flrig" (even with polling disabled) there is no issue, you nudge a digit up/down, and the radio follows just fine, plus Flrig stays showing the "new" frequency. Disabling all polling, prevents Flrig Memory Manager recall's too! (Seems odd...) This ancient (but still very useful) radio also has much of it's front panel "locked" when under CAT control, so you can't manually "tune" it (or change several other settings) from the front panel, and have Flrig follow it. The only data it can return to the controlling computer, is the Squelch status, and a 'S' meter indication value. I can't see anything grossly different in the .cxx and .h files for this radio, so I'm guessing something else changed deeper within Flrig. But where? Best Regards. Dave G0WBX.

"INFO2" macro PSK signal report.
2
Hi. Using Fldigi 4.2.06.07 Why is it, that when using PSK31 if one invokes the INFO1 and INFO2 signal report macro's, where you get a S/N and IMD value to report to the other op. But, using the other faster (single channel/carrier) PSK modes, though you get a S/N value, the IMD report is replaced by "Phase" and a value. The same is shown in the small readouts at the very bottom of the Fldigi UI. First question:- Is this intentional? (If so, why?) Second question:- What does the "Phase" value relate to, and why that instead of IMD? (A higher value seems to be shown for worse IMD sidebands, yes "many" from some stations!.) I cannot find anything in the user manual about this. Only links to Wikipedia that relate to phase encoding. Someone put me out of my misery please! :-) Best Regards. Dave G0WBX.

Possible RSID code bug THOR25 vs DominoeEX Micro
7
Noticed today a DominoEX Micro QSO was being recognised as THOR 25. In fldigi 4.2.06.21 ./src/rsid/rsid_defs.cxx the same RSID code exists? ---- ELEM2_(691, THOR25, MODE_THOR25) \ ---- ELEM2_(691, DOMINOEX_MICRO, MODE_DOMINOEXMICRO) \ ---- In the Wed Jan 1 20:39:59 2025 -0600 commit the remark - assigned secondary RsID code 691 to THOR-25 Not sure how this all works but may be relevant. FLDIGI launches and then closes. I get this error when I install via the repo or compile myself. "malloc(): unaligned tcache chunk detected" . fldigi sound problem on ubuntu 24.04

#fldigi
#ubuntu
I have successfully installed Fldigi 4.2.03 on Ubuntu 24.4 I have good rig-control between Fldigi and my transceiver. But I am unable to get audio from my transceiver to Fldigi. I do have audio from my transceiver to my computer because I can see it on the Pulse Audio Volume control bar-graph. Ubuntu 24.04 uses Pipewire for audio, but W1HJK indicates that this is not an issue with Fldigi. On Fldigi configuration/Soundcard/Devices I select PulseAudio but I have no clue how to determine the Server string. Therefor this is probably the issue I am facing. I have looked up Server string in the file fldigi_def.xml <PULSESERVER></PULSESERVER> Putting that in for the Server String field on the configuration window, I get a Pulse Audio error: “Connection refused” “Is the server running?” But there is no PulseAudio server in Ubuntu 24.04 Anyone have any ideas about getting the audio into Fldigi? Thanks.

fldigi waterfall offset when using Icom IC-7610 in RTTY mode
6
OK, this has me stumped. I'm looking to change fldigi from using AFSK to FSK for RTTY with my Icom IC-7610. Everything has been configured to work fine using AFSK. While I'm still working on the FSK transmit connection using WinKeyer USB, I have a question about the waterfall display when receiving audio in RTTY mode on the IC-7610. Instead of the display being centered at the 1500 KHz mark, it is offset almost 750 Hz up. This is quite obvious when the 500 KHz filter is enabled on the Icom IC-7610 in RTTY mode. Please see the attached (note there was no signal present on the frequency when this was taken). What do I need to set to center the display like when I'm using AFSK? Larry KS9J

FLdigi graphical face lift
13
I’ve been wondering how hard it would be to give FLDigi a graphical facelift. I know the look of FLDigi doesn’t affect its usage, power, or capability. But in an era of dark mode, themes, and modern design, I’ve heard comments like, “FLDigi is one of those old programs...” or even, “It’s on its way out...”—and I think it’s purely because of how it looks. In reality, w1hkj and the team update, enhance, and improve the program regularly. I love FLDigi, use it nearly daily, and teach others why it should be every ham’s number one tool, in their digital tool box. But hearing these comments makes me think a maybe a facelift could help change that perception. I’d love to hear your thoughts.

FLDIGI Macro to Generate 1477 Hz 1.5 Second Long Tone for W3HZU SSTV Repeater on 28.680
5
The Keystone ARC in York, PA, runs a SSTV repeater on 28.680. It requires a 1477 Hz tone for 1.5 seconds that (should) trigger the repeater to send a CW-ID. Then, one can send a SSTV image to be received by the repeater. I use QSSTV in Ubuntu which does have a 'Transmit Tone' feature (little music note in the transmit panel). However, the transmit time variable appears to be type integer, so it's 1 second or 2 seconds....not 1.5 seconds. So, I thought I'd try to get FLDIGI (4.2.06) to generate that tone (and give me an opportunity to explore some of the seldom-used macro commands). Here's what I came up with: <PUSH> <TXRSID:on|off|t> <GOFREQ:1477> <TUNE:1.5> <RX> <TXRSID:on|off|t> <POP> In theory, FLDIGI should transmit just a 1477 Hz tone for 1.5 seconds, then return to whatever cursor audio frequency and TXRSID state it was in prior to executing the macro. It sort-of works. Audio frequency doesn't change but the rig goes to transmit for about the right time. Starting with TXRSID selected, it doesn't seem to toggle and it transmits a TXRSID before returning to receive. So, TXRSID:on|off|t and GOFREQ don't seem to work as I'd have expected. I suspect I'm not using these macro commands correctly....I'd welcome anyone more familiar with these that cares to comment/suggest. 73 Keith/KI5US

Having a difficult time finding a logging program that works on Ubuntu 24.04. CQRLOG has problems with MySQL. Same with XLOG. KLOG will not interface with LOTW either directly or through ADIF file - TQSL gives errors on KLOG generated ADIF file. Anyone had success with a decent logging program on Ubuntu 24.04? Thanks

FT8 Ops in Unix
31
I’m currently using Ham Radio Deluxe, WSJT-X and Grid Tracker on my Win 10 machine. Works very well. I’m considering switching to Unix. My understanding is that HRD is a Windows Ap and will not work on Unix unless used on a VM. I’m guessing that I would install a VM on Unix and run all three of my FT8 programs in windows. All suggestions welcome. thanx… -- de Fred W0SP
