I need help making the cable that connects the Yaesu FT DX-10 to the Palstar LA-1K Amplifier 37
I need help making the cable that connects the Yaesu FT DX-10 to the Palstar LA-1K Amplifier. I have looked at posts by both Joe and K9TRX.USA@..., but still am confused. Joe uses the name: Yaesu Cable SCU-28. Not sure what that is...is it the same as the DXE-YSU-10PMD-UN Din plug? Joe's wiring chart shows "Amp key in" for the Palstar side, but no "Amp key in" is shown for the Yaesu side? I already tried a cable I used with the Ebay version of the Din plug, but no go. I am convinced that either the new Palstar LA-1K is faulty from the factory, or that somehow I have the pin wires mis-wired. I finally received the DXE-YSU-10PMD-UN Din plug with wires in the mail. I still have another DB-9 YL-SMG-9DF left from the Amazon order. I am also wondering why I cannot post on the previous posts here at groups.io? Can someone help me please? Here is a copy of the post I posted at QRZ describing the challenges I have faced. Hello everyone! I purchased a new Palstar LA-1K from Palstar some months ago. The people at Palstar have been incredibly kind and helpful on a consistent basis. I also purchased a new Yaesu FT DX-10 locally from HRO here in Sacramento. Jim at HRO has also been super kind and helpful every time I visit the HRO candy store! Literally every vendor in the world has been out of the interface cable that connects the Yaesu FT DX-10 to the Palstar LA-1K. The cable that many people use is the Ameritron Band Data Interface Cables DB-10MY [Part Number: AME-DB-10MY]. They have been out of this interface cable for months and tell me it could be many, many months before they receive the parts to manufacture new cables. I have struggled for months to get the DX-10 and the LA-1k to work together. Still no go. I have carefully mated the Yaesu 10 pin din plug with the DB9 plug. My first attempt did not work. Later as I carefully tested every wire and pin with an ohm meter, I discovered the darn DB9 plug #9 hole/connector did not work! So it was obviously a defective DB9 plug shipped from Amazon. Next attempt I First tested the next DB9 plug before assembling it to the din plug. Still no success. I called Mark at Palstar [incredibly kind, helpful and patient man]. He shared that sometimes the DB9 pin numbers are mixed up and not the same as the Palstar pin numbers. He also shared that if you take a flashlight you can carefully look at the Palstar radio interface jack on the back of the LA-1K and actually see the numbers of each pin. Sure enough the darn DB9 plug came wired opposite of the Palstar wire configuration. So, on my third attempt, carefully connected the all the wires together between the Yaesu din plug and the DB-9. Still no success. I carefully checked all connections with an ohm meter again and everything checked out perfectly. I am at a loss of why I cannot find success connecting the Yaesu FT DX-10 to the Palstar LA-1K. I got most of my information on the parts to assemble the interface cable from the Palstar groupsio site. Again, most of the people there were very helpful with the exception of a couple of super negative chronically toxic people. Finally, Paul, the CEO of Palstar graciously offered to send me a cable from Palstar [their very last cable]. He will ship it tomorrow. *I am asking here at QRZ if there is anyone that specializes in making interface cables? I would like to purchase 2-3 interface cables that will successfully connect the Yaesu FT DX-10 to the Palstar LA-1K.* Even though Paul at Palstar offered to let me keep the cable, I would like to send him the cable back and maybe even include as extra cable. I believe in rewarding kindness. I would also like to keep a couple of cables for back up purposes. Can someone here at QRZ help me please? Thank you, Dirk

Band data config for an Anan 7000 DLE MkII? 3
I think, to do band data I just use the Yaesu/Icom port on the LA-1k I *think* the entries in the manual for the LA-1k for BCD would translate directly with the check boxes in the Thetis or PowerSDR MRX software where the 1 would be a ticked box and a 0 unticked. Just a standard DB9 serial cable is my assumption as the reference to Null is only for the Kenwood port as well? Anyone set this up and try it? Just curious if I'm missing any detail here? -- 73 de Chris -- KC2RGW https://sites.google.com/view/kc2rgw/ ------------------------------------------------------------ ˙dn ?p?s ????? ?o??uo? ?no? u?n? ?s???d 's??? ?u?p??? ??? no? ??

SWR High SSB ONLY - When Using LA-1K Amp 43
SWR normal on cw and digital modes. As soon as I go to SSB and begin speaking amp goes into bypass mode. HF-Auto tuner says 1.2 SWR. If I put amp in bypass mode and turn radio to 100 watts all is ok on SSB. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I don't have a external sir meter. Dennis/W4OZ

Power On - all fans running
This morning, when I powered on my LA-1K, all fans started running immediately, like as the internal temperature was over 63 degrees after quite a bit of operation. And they keep running at the "medium" level and will not change down to the normal level, although the internal temp is 23 degrees. Any ideas? It was operating just fine last night on CW when I was trying to connect with CY0S. 73, Bernd - KB7AK

LA-1K overdrive warning 37
Hello! I'm new to the group and my first post. Just picked up a new LA-1K yesterday and I'm driving with an Icom 7300 with 50 watts. If I speak too close into the microphone the amp displays "Overdrive" and stops transmitting. Is this normal for the amp to be so sensitive to voice peaks?? I guess I just have to learn to pay more attention to how I speak into the microphone. Joe WW8X

Please excuse me if this topic has been brought up before 2
I've noticed that on my brand new LA-1K amplifier it sends out a rather husky birdy on 20 meters and possibly other bands. It actually runs up and down the band. I verified that it was caused by the amp by turning it off and it disappeared. I read that this was an issue when the amp was operating on 120VAC but when the person hooked it up to 240VAC the birdy disappeared but obviously not in my case. I attached ferrite cores on all the cords and cables but didn't even reduce the level of the birdy much less remove the issue. It most likely is getting back into the radio via the coax cable center conductor. Has anyone else have this problem and made it go away? Thanks for reading. John N1JP

HI SWR at RF Input 5
This morning while transmitting on 3.965mhz I noticed a HI SWR warning on my FTDX101MP. At the same time, the LA-1K displayed SWR=1.0 and the HF-Auto SWR = 1.04. I have discovered that the LA-1K RF Input has HI SWR while in "Operate" mode. In "Standby" mode the RF input has normal antenna/Tuner SWR. The LA-1K will NOT amplify on 160, 80, 40 but WILL amplify on 20, 15, and 10. On 10m 10w results in 200w out. It appears something has happened to the LA-1K RF input. Any ideas what's going on??? 73 Jerry kd4xr

Band Data Cable FTDX10 to LA-1K 17
Does anyone have experience using a Yaesu FTDX10 to drive the LA-1K? Yaesu suggests using their CT-118 band data cable for their Yaesu amp. Would it also work for the LA-1K? Joe Loverti WW8X

Brand new Palstar LA-1K and brand new Palstar HF Auto, can't get them to work... 22
I everyone! I recently purchased a brand new Palstar LA-1K and the Palstar HF Auto. I cannot get the Palstar LA-1K to work. Not sure what I am doing wrong. No wattage coming out of the Palstar LA-1K. Can someone here please help me? I have a new Yaesu FT-DX-10 that I am trying to work with the Palstar LA-1K. Here are my questions: What would cause this message: Low +12 Volt Supply? Also, what specific cables are people using for the interface between the Palstar LA-1K and the Yaesu FT DX-10? Is it possible I received a new Palstar LA-1K that does not work? Thank you

Digital modes and fast temperature rise 16
I have had my la-1k for a few years now, and it has never gotten hot in SSB use (usually <500 W). I have recently found out how to solve a problem I had with it constantly going into SWR bypass in a digital mode, so am now trying to get some use out of it there. For the short transmission modes and activities it will likely be fine, however I do some nets and operations that have longer transmission times - sometimes more than a minute or maybe even two minutes. Obviously this is really a 100% duty cycle, but I am only driving it with 5 watts to get about 125 watts output. I am happy with that level of output, but when I made a longer transmission the temp quickly climbed up to 80 C! Fortunately that was the end of the message, or I would have had to terminate it. I am driving an 80m double bazooka single-band antenna with a native SWR of 1.02. The meter on the amp says 1.0. As a side note if I go through my HF-AUTO tuner, it shows a low SWR also, but the amp shows 1.2 or 1.3. I often see this when I use the tuner, the amp SWR is always about .1 to .3 higher than the tuner is showing. Given the nature of my digital operations I think it is better to just go direct to the antenna. Any thoughts or suggestion would be great. 73's Al KD2PNR

240v power cable 3
Hi I picked up an amp 2nd hand and it didn’t come with the 240v power lead/cable - anyone know where I could get one (I’ve emailed Palstar but maybe you know somewhere I can get one faster) and could someone please tell me what the power outlet connector type is so I can make sure I get my electrician to wire up the correct outlet. LA-1K TYPO
Joe ... Think that was a typo. It would be version 108S. But typo or not, it confirms that the version in new builds is the same as the current version available on their website. Enjoy your new amp! 73, Kent K9ZTV On 12/24/2022 5:22 PM, Joe Loverti wrote:

LA-1K Wish 7
I do wish that my LA-1K had a CAT control so that from my PC I could put the LA-1K into STANDBY from OPERATE and then into OPERATE from STANDBY. As it stands now, to do the two commands, I have to perform this manually. For instance, this is important when sending tuning carrier to the Palstar HF-AUTO in FM/CW mode. This lack of integration between the HF-Auto and the LA-1K is the only thing that seems to have been missed. Have any of you been able to some how perform going into Standby via CAT control or some other means? Perhaps I have missed something…? I am using either WIN4YAESU or Ham Radio Deluxe Rig Control to do the CAT…. But these two softwares are NOT aware of the HF-Auto or LA-1K. I also have the optional 3rd party HF-AUTO software by Terry which I find personally overly complex to configure with my antennas so I tend to not use it any longer. Thanks 73 Art W1SWL

LA-1K Trips to Standby in SSB mode only 9
My LA-1K keeps tripping to stand-by when I drive it on SSB. On CW, RTTY or FM/AM, I can key the amp with 60-80 watts drive and get full 1200 watts carrier out, no issue. Keys/Unkeys/ no issue. However, when I operate SSB, if I drive it with more than 20-25 watts, the amp goes into standby. With only 20 watts drive I only get about 700-750 watts PEP output. I tried adjusting the ALC, does not seem to make any difference what ALC setting I have. Any suggestions when might be going on? NE7X...
