Band Data Cable FTDX10 to LA-1K
开云体育
I have a FTDX10 with the LA-1K.? I bought the cable needed off of ebay ->? The cable goes to my MFJ998 ATU, and the output goes to the amplifier.? I have not tried to go directly from the radio to the amp with this cable. However, I sent an email to Palstar and they seemed to think this cable would work going directly from the FTDX10 to the LA-1k. Thanks, David

开云体育I use one with my 101. Works good. You have to go into the menu and tell
the amp that is what you are doing. You can also do away with the Keying line.

Thanks Mike... the Linear jack shows 10 pins and the Tuner jack shows 8 pins. The link you gave has 9 pins. So, yes I'm still confused. On Thu, Jan 5, 2023 at 1:05 PM KE0WNL <michael@...> wrote: I purchased this from GigaParts, but they are out of stock. The cable is made by Ameritron.? |
开云体育Steve,Are you using the CT-118 with the ftdx-101 or the CT-178 which is the cable listed for the 101D/MP. Ron? WD8T Sent from Proton Mail mobile -------- Original Message -------- On Jan 4, 2023, 6:16 PM, Steve Snyder < w7cm@...> wrote:

I cannot affirm that the cable you mention is suitable, but here is my experience.??Mark at Palstar suggested the cable made for the Ameritron 1306 Solid state amp.? It is compatible with the LA-1K.? ?The specific model for the FTDX-10 is the?Ameritron Band Data Interface Cable DB-10MY.? DX Engineering shows them on backorder until June!? After reading many helpful posts on this forum, I built my own.? Extremely easy.? Although there is some debate about it's usefulness, I find the band data cable is a better and safer option than the PTT connection/"Normal" keying mode.? The sequencing attained under the "Direct Keying Mode" is shown on p. 21 of the Palstar manual.?
If you roll your own, here's one approach:? Note:?My LA-1k is fairly new so older manuals may be different..??The manual has the pinouts for the DB-9 "Radio Interface for Yaesu/Icom" on p.13 , bottom left hand table.? Also, you need to reference the "Linear" jack 10 pin wiring on P.13 of the FTDX-10 manual.??
I bought a multiconductor cable with the 10 pin mini-din attached because I couldn't find a connector (reasonably priced).? DX Engineering sells this and a Yaesu cable that is basically the same for more money:?
?DXE-YSU-10PMD-UN, about $25.? The DB-9 connector can be found everywhere, either solder type or terminal strip.? This is from a lead by W1SWL (Thanks Art) and is on Amazon.? There are lots of look-alikes by various company names (probably all made at the same plant) but this was as advertised and excellent quality.? Two for about $13.? I wound up using the other one on another project.??ANMBEST 2PCS DB9 Solderless Connector, RS232 D-SUB Serial to 9-Pin Port Terminal Female Adapter Connector Breakout Board with Locking Housing.??No soldering involved and you only need a small flat-blade screwdriver and a wire stripper.? The part that requires the most thought is mating the colors of the cable to the appropriate functions.? It's pretty obvious from the drawings what has to happen(a wiringto get the two ends connections ends to?It is true that this cable also enables activating the amp by keying the radio.? You must remove any connection to the PTT jack on the linear.? On the amp menu "Select Mode Option,"? you'd choose "Direct Keying."? If all is good, it gives you confirmation that the cable is detected.? In operation, when you change bands, the amp goes into standby and selects? the proper band settings thereby giving you a chance to tune up (barefoot).? When you hit the amp with a little r.f., it is set to go and you'll get the frequency readout to match the radio.? FYI, In the "Direct Mode" Palstar recommends a transceiver keying delay of approximately 11 milliseconds.? This is most important for CW.? ?The FTDX-10? "QSK Delay Time" (p. 96) can be be from 15 to 30 ms, so you are safe with any of these.? Thanks to W1SWL and all the others for help in going through this myself! |

So glad you made your own cable.... once you have the parts then it is rather simple. Enjoy your rig and the AMP. It is a great amp. I also have the RFKIT RF2K-S ?amp as well.? Have fun and enjoy your FTDX10 now that you have some extra "Grunt". Higher power does require that all the little details are perfect in the transmit stream. 73 Art W1SWL |
Yes, I can confirm the?DB-10MY cable is out-of-stock nearly everywhere. The alternative suggestion is the best?way to proceed without having that hard to get cable. I've ordered the components (CSU-28 cable and the 9-pin connector) which I hope to receive soon. I put together a wiring guide to help me make the correct connections. If you see something wrong, let me know. Hopefully?it may prove useful to others with the same connection conundrum.? Joe WW8X On Mon, Jan 9, 2023 at 4:52 PM W1SWL <artgumbus@...> wrote: K9TRX: |
UPDATE: I assembled and installed the cable from the FTDX10 to the LA-1K and all seems well. The cable wires are extremely small and fragile and I just didn't trust the screw-down connectors to hold them firmly. So I soldered the wires to the underside of the pc board. The photo shows the underside of the pc board and how I secured the assembly with a nylon strap. On Mon, Jan 9, 2023 at 6:42 PM Joe Loverti WW8X via <jloverti=[email protected]> wrote:

I just wanted to say thanks for everyone sharing.? As I had mentioned in a previous post, I use the PTT which is supported, and have had no issues. However, after reading about some of you creating your own cable, I decided to do the same.? The cable works as intended, so I just wanted to say thanks again for sharing as it made the job a little easier.
I went about it a little differently -? Went with a cable on Ebay, which does use different colors, so I had to match them up, but wasn't an issue, but saved a few bucks as opposed to going through dxengineering.? ->? For the DB9, I went with "Anmbest 2PCS DB9" which is on Amazon for 11 dollars for 2. In case anyone else wants to buy the ebay 10pin mini-din here is the pin-out mapping.? Since this cable isn't specifically for Yaesu, I didn't put the function of the colors for the cable. Lastly, if the pin was not used, I simply wrapped the end of the wire with electrical tape, and did not connect. Hope that helps. Best Regards and 73 |
As I recall... no change necessary. However, this is my procedure for using them together on SSB:
There are other ways to do this... but this is what has worked for me. On Wed, Feb 15, 2023 at 2:23 PM ddffbb22 via <ddffbb22=[email protected]> wrote: Joe, |

开云体育I used a small jewelers screwdriver.? No soldering necessary with
the kit. It was a little bit of a pain ensuring the wires remained in the slots whilst screwing them down, and that's because they are just so darn small.? Let me know how it goes for you.? One thing that comes to mind,
don't trust me and don't trust the ebay sellers pin outs.. Quickly
check them to ensure they are right. They should be but double
check. Best Regards, David
