HI SWR at RF Input
This morning while transmitting on 3.965mhz I noticed a HI SWR warning on my FTDX101MP. At the same time, the LA-1K displayed SWR=1.0 and the HF-Auto SWR = 1.04. I have discovered that the LA-1K RF Input has HI SWR while in "Operate" mode. In "Standby" mode the RF input has normal antenna/Tuner SWR. The LA-1K will NOT amplify on 160, 80, 40 but WILL amplify on 20, 15, and 10. On 10m 10w results in 200w out. It appears something has happened to the LA-1K RF input. Any ideas what's going on???

The only input issues I have heard of happening with the LA1K resulted from overdriving the Amp with a 200 watt radio like the 101mp. I would contact Palstar on Monday morning and get their opinion.

I have mistakenly put 200 watts into my LA-1K several times. It just kicks out and gives the Overdrive message. The protection on this amp is very well done.

Steve,? Yes it is. I have a ftdx5000 and there is a setting in the radio (which many modern radios have) max output 200w, and i set it down to 50w as i feel thats a good safety measure for extra protection.? I was in the cw contest this past weekend. Single band 15m. On this band i noticed i dont need much drive to get 900w out. 35w over drives it and kicks it out for me only on 15m. I feel better knowing its only 50 max that will kick it out instead of the full 200 if i ever tx everywhere else. Interesting note. At the start of the contest, ?I was having a few end of tx bypasses amp kicking out and was getting annoying.? I checked the back connectors and one was not very tight. In the summer, i disconnect that connector for lighting and i guess the last time i did it didnt go tight enough. After that, issue resolved. I have put many contest hours into this amp in the past couple years. Its been a work horse for me and a solid performer. Excellent amp.? Barry Ve6um? I don't have a schematic for the LA - 1K but I'm assuming like most amplifiers it has some kind of matching network that is switched between various bands on the input. That's what provides the 50 ohm match to the output of your exciter. It's possible you probably have overdriven the amplifier on some of the bands and damaged those input matching circuits, or they have just failed for some other reason. The amplifier most likely will probably have to go back to PalStar. You should contact them.
