Re: Band Data Cable FTDX10 to LA-1K
I just wanted to say thanks for everyone sharing.? As I had mentioned in a previous post, I use the PTT which is supported, and have had no issues. However, after reading about some of you creating your own cable, I decided to do the same.? The cable works as intended, so I just wanted to say thanks again for sharing as it made the job a little easier.
I went about it a little differently -? Went with a cable on Ebay, which does use different colors, so I had to match them up, but wasn't an issue, but saved a few bucks as opposed to going through dxengineering.? ->? For the DB9, I went with "Anmbest 2PCS DB9" which is on Amazon for 11 dollars for 2. In case anyone else wants to buy the ebay 10pin mini-din here is the pin-out mapping.? Since this cable isn't specifically for Yaesu, I didn't put the function of the colors for the cable. Lastly, if the pin was not used, I simply wrapped the end of the wire with electrical tape, and did not connect. Hope that helps. Best Regards and 73 |
Re: Display is blank
Interesting thread!?
I've been using my LA-1K for over 4 years (often daily) and have NEVER experienced the blank display problem discussed here. For what it's worth, I'm driving it with an IC-7610 with no band data cable - amp is totally auto sensing. I wonder if using a high grade USB cable (with torrid chokes on each end) would help? |
Re: Display is blank
I have the same issue with the blank gray screen at times. It is intermittent and not really a big deal but the first time it happened I thought the screen had died. Anyway to fix the issue I turn off the amp, unplug the USB Band control cable from the Flex (this is the easiest cable to reach) and plug it back in. Then turn the amp back on. This works every time. I normally don't turn on the amp unless I need it.

Re: Display is blank
It appears to be the data cable. I have an FTdx101D and a 7610 both connected to the LA-1K through a cable switch. If I turn on the amp after the radios I will occasionally get the blank screen on the LA-1K. The cable switch has 4 positions so I have been selecting an empty position before I turn on the amp. I have not seen the blank screen on the LA-1K since.

Re: Display is blank
开云体育Maybe, but mine is usually the last in the string to be turned on and I've never had a problem. PS > QSK2500 > PS > transceiver > HF-AUTO > LA1K.? And, in between QSOs, while just listening, I'll turn the amp off, then back on when I need it. ? Makes no difference that I've ever noticed. ?I run it on 240v, by the way. 73, Kent K9ZTV On Jan 30, 2023, at 5:07 AM, vu2tg.hari@... wrote:

Happens 2 or 3 times a month for me. All cables tight. Glad no pain in flipping the switch a few times. 开云体育Turn off try again. If that doesnt work unhook all keying cables and try it.

开云体育Don’t be discouraged. I felt same way at first and I resoldered ALL my connectors and there were a lot. No issues since. Also ensure all your antennas are working properly and no shorts. Amp has Been solid since. I do occassionaly get the 3.3 SWR during a contest. Not sure why but 99% runs solid. It’s a great amp and needs a solid station (eg: connections, cable, ant, etc.) ? Re: SWR High SSB ONLY - When Using LA-1K Amp
I bought my LA-1K four years ago from the original owner.? I use it with a MFJ-998 KW tuner and haven't had any issues.? I know many are now using end fed antennas and experience problems from RF in the shack.? The SWR going up when switching to high power sounds like something breaking down when stressed.?? 73, Allen, W9DZ |

Tune up with 100 watts into the HF Auto then turn power down and turn on the amp. Sometimes 5 watts is not enough. Then when turned the tuner will follow. IMHO the LA1k was your best choice and you just need to have the correct antenna to handle the power.
Perhaps you have a balun that is getting saturated. In any case it is an antenna issue most likely.

Re: SWR High SSB ONLY - When Using LA-1K Amp
开云体育I'm going to agree, I've used the LA-1K from 10M-160M without
issue from the Amp (Non Amp issue stated below).? What is being
described is a possible feedline and or antenna issue.? My Elmer
also had a similar problem when power was applied, from his LA-1K,
and SWR went crazy. It ended up being the coax between the tuner
and amplifier that caused the issue. My antenna is way short of 160Meters long, but use a wide range
ATU, and it acts the same way as you described, but it is my
antenna and not the amplifier. My work around is to use FT8
or CW to tune a specific frequency using 100Watts first, and then
introduce the amplifier at the lowest possible power, and stop
transmitting. Adjust C or L depending, and key up again and look
at the values until I get the SWR down to an acceptable level.?
Save those values in the ATU or write them down. If not convinced it is not an AMP issue, then make or purchase an
antenna for that particular band, and see if the problem persists.
