Just received my new LA-1K. Love the AMP.? Just wondering if anyone else has
a problem with the AMP frequency display not displaying the same frequency as the
transceiver? Not a big deal but thought I would ask this new group. I figure there is a
way to adjust that buy don't want to open up the amp.

"The LA-1K's readout may be different than the radio display frequency because:
Radios show the "carrier" frequency in USB or LSB. On side band, the carrier is not transmitted, so only the upper or lower side band frequencies will be present.
These will be higher on USB and lower on LSB than the "carrier" frequency.
Example:
If you transmit a 1kHz tone on USB (radio at 14.250), the output will be 14.251
14.250 + .001 (upper side band) = 14.251
on LSB it would be 14.249.
Transmitting in AM should show the actual carrier frequency.

Hello,
Just picked up a new LA-1K to go with my HF-Auto.
My first concern is that I think I have a sticky relay, I'm getting an intermittent transmit delay, and the display on the Amp says "TX Wait" anyone one else experience this ?
The other is which power meter is more accurate ? the bar meter on the amp or the numerical on the HF-Auto because they both read different.

I think the wait signal comes up when you close the PTT switch but have not sent power down the coax. So if you key on SSB and don’t talk, you will see wait. ? The bar graph on my LA-1k is no where close to accurate.? My HF-Auto matches my LP-100 pretty close but the L1-1K does not. ? Rich ?

an earlier poster mentioned that the power meter on the LA-1K was inaccurate and, I guess by extension, the SWR meter as well.? At the present time I do not have a separate meter.
Can I rely on the LA-1K meter at all or do I need to bite the bullet and get a LP-100a which is not in the budget right now? :)

The way the meter was designed it would be hard to get a good power reading anyway.?? There are no marks so you are only guessing that 600 watts is in the middle of the “600”.? Best guess is when my amp is doing 600 watts its really doing about 550.? I have a LP-100 coupler about 3’ from the output connection on the amp and trust it more than I do the amp readings. ? I don’t even know if the circuitry in the LA-1K allows an accurate reading?? If it did, it would be nice to replace the large “POWER-WATTS” on the top with an actual digital value. ? Although the amp works pretty well, the display could use some work in my opinion.?

So what's the most power you have seen on your LP-100 from the amp ??
I broke down and ordered an LP-100, kind of disappointed I had to just to get some accuracy.

I have not really put the coals to it because I have some RG8-x in the shack I want to replace before I do.? However I ran it up to 1KW very very briefly. ? In all honesty I have been a ham for over 30 years and have never been around an amplifier that I could use as a reliable power meter.? I consider a good meter a requirement period no matter what you buy.? I don’t know if the SPE or Acom is any better. ? As you can see in my layout below I have the LP100 and 500 and a total of 5 couplers. ? You will love the LP100A. Larry makes great products. ? Rich ? KD0ZV ?

Best thing to do is call us. If it says TX wait that's normally what you get when you ground the push to talk line, but RF is not being applied. Call us and we'll explain everything:?800-773-793.

AMP FAULT CONDITIONS for V1.01B FIRMWARE
1. SWR TRIP FAULT:?Fault SWR stays on display until unkeyed.?Occurs with 2.5:1 SWR. SWR numbers also turn RED.
?
2. TEMPERATURE FAULT:?When temperature reaches 100 degrees C, display shows fault TEMP + unit goes to Standby Mode and can’t enable until below 70 degrees C. Numbers turn red at 70 degrees C.
?
3. TX WAIT FAULT:??? PTT is closed but no RF Applied.
NOTE: Frequency readout must show a number from previous transmission for this otherwise it shows TX BYPASS.
4. TX BYPASS FAULT: F = RED?Lock-out frequency example: 27 MHz
5. TX BYPASS FAULT: F = GREEN?Unit is in STBY – NORMAL.

Its pretty straight forward.? I have no issues with mine.? Its going to take some getting used to for me as I am not accustomed to having a fan come on so quickly and the relay is pretty noisy. Not sure why all manufactures don’t do quiet ?QSK. ? Beyond those two things it’s an A+
