?
One way to fake it is to adjust the loco's move count to bias assignment to a train. You will still need two types of locomotives, switcher and mainline.
?
You could set all of the mainline type locomotive move counts to say "1000" or larger.? For your local trains, enable both "types" of locos.? For your mainline trains, only enable "mainline type" locos.
?
Now the program for your locals will first use all of the "switchers", with low move counts, and then assign your main line locos after all switchers are used up.

Locomotive assignment
#operationspro
I'm probably in the minority, but I allow JMRI to assign locomotives to trains.? It gets all the locos moving around the layout.? Plus it helps with getting proper train lengths.
?
What I would like is a way to assign switchers to local trains, and mainline locos to through trains.? I know this can be done using the 'type', but the issue is a build will fail if there are no more of the 'type' of loco available.
?
I'd really like there to be an If-Then-Else feature so that IF the train is a local THEN use swithers ELSE use mainline locos, if there are no more switchers available (and vice versa).??
?
If this is already a feature, please let me know the proper way to set this up.
?
I know this is a 'first world' problem as I could manually assign locos, but I figure it doesn't hurt to ask.
?
Thanks

Keith, On your track plan, the signal aspect for entering the siding has a medium speed. ?That means the train has to reduce the speed to medium "before" reaching the signal mast. ?When you are going from siding to siding, the speed will stay at medium. ?If there are intermediate signals showing clear, then the train should speed up until it passes the intermediate signal. SPINS in JMRI
#operationspro
The Southern Pacific used 'SPINS', (Southern Pacific Industrial Numbering System). They just put a number to correspond with the track and/or industry serviced. The question is, has anyone else used SPINS in JMRI?
?
Additional information here: https://wx4.org/to/foam/sp/spins/books.html
?
What I'm looking for is how to name the industry. Instead of putting Wal-Mart spot 1 or Purina Chow unload 1, do you just put the number, 0415 for example? I'd think it could be as easy as that. Yes, I have a diagram of the track to match the number and industry but wanted to know how operators handled just a number vs. a name and location. Since the name of the building and location are easier to see on a model railroad verses a number that you have to reference another document.?
For real railroaders, I think the diagram and number would be easy and repeatable as a job. For us part time (model) railroaders, I think more details assist operators in performing their tasks.? Thank you for any information.? Mike O'Neill

Re: Build Fail, claims no route for cars
#operationspro
Pete,?
Thanks for the reply. I will have to wait for another build fail as I have built a new train.
In the mean time let me explain Mr RR a bit.
Afton is staging only. It is actually 5 drawers off layout. ?This train (NSVL 82) will be set on a siding until it is time to show up in Lyndhurst. Here the trains drops its ?inbound cars on the main, then goes to a yard track picks up the outbound cars and goes back to Afton.
Lyndhurst is a Yard only. It is actually 3 tracks but for simplicity I have it as one in JMRI. When NSVL82 ?goes back to Afton the yard crew will sort the cars for the next trains.
The Wolfpen turn (NSVL 107) is routed from Lyndhurst Yard ?to the Lyndhurst transload and then to Wolfpen and then return to the yard.
The Schuyler turn(NSVL 105) is routed from Lyndhurst Yard ?to Schuyler power then onto Schuyler (this in a C/I track). Then returns to the yard.
The Schuyler switcher (NSVL 202) works the paper mill and then drops/ pickups cars from the Schuyler interchange track.
The only cars having routing issues are my hoppers. As seen they are not making the trip to Lyndhurst ?Transload.
The program did try to send the car to Dunn Papermill, but there would be too many hoppers there.
The program is supposed to wait one turn then switch out the Hopper at the paper mill, but lately is. To doing that either.
Next time I build a train with the hoppers I will post the build report ( if fails).
I have made the changes you recommended by the way.
?
So basically My RR is a rural Appalachian operation. Cars come in from Afton (the rest of the world) run down the valley to ?Schuyler (the end of the line) where Dunn Papermill is (my biggest customer). Sometimes I will combine the wolfpen and Schuyler turn into one train (even though I still have JMRI build them as separate trains). sometimes I just run them one at time as the mood strikes.
Again thanks for your time and be looking out for the next build report…should I just post it here or start a new post??
Joe

I think I'll do the same for the modular group.

All the booster boxes I set up for the group and my home stuff have a circuit breaker feeding the track, set about .5 amp below the booster rating, the accessory decoders are fed from before the breakers so we don't have the problems with track shorts.?
MERG do circuit breaker kits for less than ?12 if you are into making such things, but you do need to be a member to buy them.

There is a reference page here:

If you proceed down as far as "Create an Action" and then select "Request update of all sensors", that is the only command needed.
When you close down the dialogue make sure "start up" is ticked.
?
Regarding the specific Lenz problem, I too have had problems with turnouts not operating after a short.? I solved it by putting circuit breakers between the LZV100 / LV102 and the track.? DCCconcepts in the UK do a product DCD-iPCB.1 which is very effective, although quite expensive (around UKP 80).? Also you would need two, one for each track feed.? I guess there are probably similar alternatives out there.

Hope that helps, Phil

Dave Sand ----- Original message ----- From: whmvd <vandoornw@...> Subject: [jmriusers] Profiles - can they be application dependent? Date: Wednesday, September 25, 2024 9:54 AM Hi all, I have a good many profiles. Some of them are of interest only when I use DecoderPro, others exclusively when I use PanelPro and some are of interest to both. I'd like to limit the number of profiles shown when I start PanelPro by excluding those I use only wih DecoderPro, and vv. And similar for other JMRI entry-points, which I don't use yet - but who knows? Is this an existing feature that I just have not found? A maintenance screen with checkmarks per profile would be ideal, but of course any implementation could be very different from what I happen to look for. The much shorter list of choices would be so much easier to work with. I pick a wrong one quite frequently. Some judicious renaming of profiles might help me, but making a application<->profile map to enable/disable seems so much handier! Wouter |
