Locked Re: SE8C NTXXX Commands instead of LTXXX

Billybob,

Hi. Believe I found Doug's message that you referred to below on the Digitrax group. #163566 on 04/08/2011 !!!

In addition to your comments, Doug noted that when in the default condition (OpSw14=Thrown) the SE8C only responds when track power is on.

Marc,

I believe you have interpreted the table in the SE8C manual incorrectly - something that I have done many times in the past; those tables make sense to the engineer at Digitrax, and perhaps a few others, but the average joe often finds them difficult to understand.

Doug Stuard tested the SE8C operation very carefully with respect to SE8C OpSw14 and documented his findings. My notes show that he provided his test results in post # 163882, but I cannot determine which list, and on which site, that post came from. Searches of the jmriusers groups.io list did not find that post.

Doug found that the default, SE8C OpSw14=Thrown, made the SE8C respond ONLY to the turnout control packets found on the DCC track signal on the "RailSync" wires. LocoNet "Data" wires were ignored (for signal control) when OpSw14=Thrown.

He found that when SE8C OpSw14=Closed, the SE8C responded ONLY to the turnout messages found on the LocoNet "Data" wires. The DCC track signal on the "RailSync" wires was ignored in this case.

Regards,
Billybob

Have you read and tried the instructions on "Using the Serial Ports" down near the end under "Notes" at the following link?

It not only gives instructions but specifically warns that changing serial port permissions will not solve the problem.

I'm not guaranteeing they'll work under Chrome OS...

Fran?ois,

CV 8 is purposely greyed out in the definitions to prevent accidental writing.

To reset, in the top menu bar of the roster entry is an item labeled Reset. Click on that and click on factory reset in the drop down menu. Depending on the decoder you may have one or more reset options.

Program on the main

Set locomotive address to 55

Call up CV55

Make value 55

This should reset your decoder to factory settings

Locked Re: Inverted option grayed out in turnout table

I have a couple of crossovers done that way 1 using curved turnouts, the other is in a small yard to access a headshunt and a couple of sidings.

Locked Re: Inverted option grayed out in turnout table

As an aside, a crossover made that way is a great way to avoid the otherwise inevitable S-curve, hence it would naturally be more common on layouts.

Great info guys. Thanks for sharing. I'm now convinced that OpSw14 was the culprit.
And while I'm here,? special shout out to Ken for all his awesome contributions to JMRI!

Ken,? I'm powering from a wall wart that shares with one of my BDLs. ? No track power.? But it does get a rail sync connection to my NCE command station via 1 wire of the RJ12 connection. ?

Yes I have DBL168 installed and working Just was wondering what was next. I've setup the tablets and so far just basic control. I still need to design routes and started thinking about using signals to help crews on where to go. I have a couple of hidden switchs that control direction and would like to help crews on what to do. Will take a better look at this soon, thanks.

Not all systems JMRI supports have invert options.

It really is there for two cases:
1) you miss-wire the physical turnout actuator ( which isn’t always possible...)
2) when you have to install the turnout actuator backwards.

Since LCC events don’t know if they are for the “Normal” or “Reverse” position, they don’t really care about the physical layout. We give them the associated meaning in JMRI when we associate them with a turnout.

Locked Re: java Exception when try to add a second internal sensor

Andy,

The short flippant answer is 'coz that's how it was written' ;-)

However, what should be the case is that each of the 'Add' dialogs provide (at least) three buttons - 'OK', 'Apply', 'Cancel'.

Behaviour of each of these as follows:

'OK' - create/make the changes specified then close
'Apply' - create/make the changes specified but remain open
'Cancel' - discard changes/abort creation then close

It would be good to know which dialogs you've noticed that are not following this convention so that we can sort out consistent behaviour throughout.

Thanks.

Best regards,

Matt H

Hi Dave
I've tried dev build and all looks fine to me. Thanks for tracking it down and fixing it!

As a side note, is there a particular reason that some of the 'Tables' Add dialogs close after adding a new item (such as sensors and turnouts) whereas others (such as Memory Variables and block) stay open and allow further additions until they are actively closed?

Thanks
Andy
