Locked Re: I am unable to read what type of decoder from the program track and mainline on Loksound and Broadway Limited decoders. I can read the digitrax decoders.

I was never able to consistently read TCS, Lenz and NCE N-scale decoders with an original Zephyr, either direct from the command station, or with DecoderPro running on a Linux laptop connected with a LocoBuffer-USB. Tried the resistor trick, tried (and returned) a PowerPax. Digitrax decoders always read perfectly. Writes to TCS, Lenz and NCE decoders failed consistently from the command station, I had much better success with DecoderPro, likely because of retries. I have no idea if this is something Digitrax has improved in later models. Customer support from the decoder manufacturers blamed the command station, and Digitrax says the other decoders aren't following standards.

Cwt,

First I'd suggest you stick with 4.12, there are issues in 4.10 that are
likely to bite you sometime. Next, make sure you can select if you use the
PowerPax and select to disconnect the grain of wheat bulb. Now I think you
are saying that only the LokSound and Broadway Limited are not working, but
other decoders are working fine. Last I'd check the voltage of the power to
the PowerPax. Unless it is a 18 volt module, I've heard people have issues
with them.

Here are two more items to check:
1. Open Edit->Preferences->Roster->Programmer.
2. Make sure that these are unchecked:
'Allow caching when writing index CVs for read or write operations'
'When possible, confirm CV writes by following them with a read'
3. While we are in the Preferences, check the 'Defaults' to be on LocoNet.

Are you trying to read/write a simple CV instead of more advanced things
like addresses? I ask that as a lead to the next question: Have you turned
off the 'verbal feedback' option? The absolute first thing I try with one of
these decoders is turning off the verbal feedback. I do that because the
decoder tends to go dead while it is talking and on anything beyond a single
read/write command, it will miss the 2nd or other commands. Since these
decoders use Indexed mode, many of the operations require sequences of
multiple CV operations to change one value.

Let's see if this discovers anything meaningful.

Locked I am unable to read what type of decoder from the program track and mainline on Loksound and Broadway Limited decoders. I can read the digitrax decoders.

I am using version 4.10 and have tried 4.12 JMRI on windows 10. I also am using a RR-CirKits LocoBuffer-USB version 3 on com port 3, a Digitrax DCS 200 and a program booster (PowerPax) to the program track (I also have a grain of wheat bulb on the program track). I am getting an error that says no response from loco. This occurs on the programing track and the mainline. I have all other functions like turning power on to the track and programing of any digitrax decoders and reading them. Any help with my problem would be grateful. I think the problem is something in the DCS 200. (Some CV setting I think).

Hi Manos
You saved them: tools->file->save->save configurations only to file.
Then to load: Panels->Open Panels

Hi Ken, I did save the parameters but could not find a way to reload from the
same menu (tools->tables->turnouts). Reloading was my first thought but I
guess this happens from the startup of the program. I am quite new on JMRI but
I think now I understand where to look at to resolve the matter.
Thanks again....

Thanks again Ken, got them all sorted out, so far. If I load the tables from panel menu (had them saved with a different name) all return as expected. The reason I didn't do this before is that haven't made a panel yet as I was trying to figure out if will be possible to take advantage of the free pins in DCC++ for a couple of sensors and turnouts.
RTFM always helps out, hi!

Locked Re: Loconet Monitor Startup

John,

What you are seeing is one of two things. First it could be the command
station. When it does a power on to the track, it sends special commands
(what you see) to ask all devices on the layout to report their status. The
other is when JMRI starts up, it too issues the sequence to ask all devices
to report their status. This is how JMRI learns the current status of
turnouts and sensors and updates the tables. Otherwise, until a turnout
moved, or a sensor changed, you would see 'Unknown' as the status.

Locked Re: Loconet Monitor Startup

JMRI is querying for the status of devices connecting to the LocoNet. But for some reason, perhaps because layout power is off, the command station is rejecting the requests (that¡¯s the ¡°Switch request failed!¡± message). JMRI then retries it, as it has no way to know whether the cause has cleared up or not.

Locked Re: L1USB Ethernet Adapter Error ? Help

Hi Paul, ?? I mentioned in an earlier message that I hadn't been able to recover a largely working layout from a number of changes and updates etc., most of which were relatively minor, however it did include making a separate JK accessory bus and all solid state PC.
During this time we had a lightening strike which destroyed the router; given your comments and seeing that XpressNet Traffic Monitor shows a lot of "Normal Operations Resumed after timeout" message I think there is a possibility that the adapter was damaged by the lightening strike.?
I assume that we do not have a way of testing it ??
The replacement PC is unlikely to be the cause as it was not installed at that time.? Most things I've been through in fine detail so there isn't much else other than the LZV100!

If you're worrying about horns/bells, etc unfortunately it'll come from the wrong unit, though most people don't notice that even when engines a foot apari.

I have a question related to operating in a consist using CV19.

Assume that the consist has the lead and trailing loco coupled in opposite directions, no matter how many locos are in the consist.
?
The issue/question is how do you operate the consist when you want to operate the consist in the opposite direction, specificall concerning CV21-22 which defines which function keys are supposed to respond to the consist address. Obviously, the 'new' lead loco function keys would need to operate differently than when it was a traling loco.

I don't think there's a simple way to reverse operation and have the now lead loco to respond to the function keys as the now new lead loco.

So, although I've actually answered own question, it'd be nice to be able to define direction for function response when direction is changed. Also, you'd have to define which of the consist locos was the trailing loco, so other locos that are not the lead or trailing loco in the consist would still ignore the correct function keys.

So, can a macro type operation read CV values, and then change the CV 21 U& 22 values to accomplish the correct response to function buttons when reversing a consist? I completely understand that there may be different macros needed for various consist combinations, as trying to make it universal would be beyond the ability of most JMRI users.

And lastly, assuming such a macro could be implemented somehow, how would the macro be triggered?

Maybe the decoder manufactures need to help with this, but there's not much chance that would happen.

Hi Dave

All these items you have come up with were caused I think by me following the suggestion in the Check menu as mentioned previously. I think I will have a look through my backup files and find the one that was created after I installed 4.12 and compare it with what you have produced now. I could perhaps have saved you a lot of effort if I had thought to try that before but I was only reminded of the existence of the backups when I was in my profile folder to store the first corrected file you posted.

As I said before, I really do appreciate your effort here

Thanks

Locked Re: Turnout minor issue

Manos,

Ok, here is a few quick clues. First if you do a save in the tables, it
creates a file that is same as if you did Panels->Save Panel, but the tables
only saves the table items. I always use the panels one, most of the time I
end up adding a few graphic things (display panels) and they would not be
saved via the Tables->Save Table.

Next you load either one via the Panels->Open Panel. Also in the
Edit->Preferences->Startup, you have the option of entering an item to load
the file there too. That makes it automatic while JMRI is starting. Here you
add an 'Action' of 'Open File...', then select the file name.

Last is if you make changes, I suggest saving with a different name. Just in
case the old file works better than what you changed. That gives you a
chance to try again. And if you changed the file name, then you have to go
back to the Startup and click on the file name in the name list. That will
give you the option to pick a different file.

Anytime you make any changes in the Preferences, you will have to click the
'Save' to keep those changes.

Hi Ken, I did save the parameters but could not find a way to reload from the same menu (tools->tables->turnouts). Reloading was my first thought but I guess this happens from the startup of the program. I am quite new on JMRI but I think now I understand where to look at to resolve the matter.
Thanks again....

Thank you for so much careful testing! Much appreciated.

Let me know if you find any untranslated pieces, please.

Hi Bob

I downloaded and tested built #2618 and it looks fine. Here are a few test I've made

Using DP and PP with preferences already set to English
1) Lauching Panel pro using the Profile selector, then selecting my RR, the main menu and all sub menus I've opened are in English so it looks Fine :)

2) Lauching Decoder Pro which starts directly with my profile (no profile selection), it also works fine with menu and sub menus in English.

Modifying the local langage
3) I then switched the local langage to French, restarted Decoder Pro, and Menu and Sub menus were in French as expected

4) I finally reverted to US English, restarted Decoder Pro, and it was in US English as expected.

So AFAIK, it looks fine to me.

Manos,

After you name the turnouts, did you save the panel file? Then you'd have to
set the 'Startup' to load that file. That should make the user names hang
around.
