Locked Re: Panel sensors not triggering Lroutes at startup

Rummy,

Thanks for the panel and a subtle clue in your description.

Instead of defining the sensor names in the sensor table and then adding the sensors to the panel, you are dynamically creating the sensors names using the Layout Editor toolbar as you are adding the sensors to the panel.

If you look at the the system console (Help >> System console) you will see lots of errors.

When you create a sensor using the table, you have to select the System Connection. Usually there will be two. One is the layout connection, such as LocoNet or NCE. The other will be Internal. The system name field gets a valid value, without a prefix, which varies depending on the connection type. The prefix will be added automatically. You can also enter the user name at the same time.

When you create the system name dynamically using the Layout Editor toolbar, you have to supply a valid prefix and valid subsequent characters yourself since there is no mechanism to select the connection type. When an invalid name is supplied, an error occurs in the system console and the icon jumps to the upper left corner. The background on the toolbar also remains red. If you right click the icon, the name will be <Not connected>. These need to be deleted and added again with valid names.

I define my sensors using the sensor table with user names. When I add them to the panel, they are assigned the user names. I also use the user names for any other references, such as Logix.

I created a folder (Rummy's...) in the ProblemsBeingWorkedOn folder (thank you for the suggestion!), and I uploaded the configuration file (what I call it) that "builds" the panel for my layout as it exists now. I'm kind of embarrassed because I'm new to JMRI and PanelPro so I expect a lot of you experts will look at what I've done and have a good laugh! But we all have to start somewhere, right? The layout depicted in the panel is about 75' of mainline track (HO) and represents about 20% of the mainline that will exist on the finished layout. I picked the simple end of the track plan to begin layout construction and wanted to get JMRI, Digitrax & loconet, detection, etc., started, so I added a temporary return loop shown on the left side to get some trains running.

As I said, I'm a rookie with JMRI, so I'm open to all suggestions and input. That also means I may get that deer-caught-in-the-headlights look when you make some suggestions. lol

Thanks again,

Steve,

? ? ?I've had control of a loco with my DT402 throttle and then ran the loco via Dispatcher without dispatching it.? I think that Dispatcher takes over the loco totally and you have to select that loco again with the throttle to take control.

Correct, you should release the loco from any other throttle. I think but not sure, that unplugging a dt4xx dt5xxx or utx will stop the throttle trying to reassert control but a dcs5x cs throttle has to be released for sure. I technically understand this stuff , and can do it, but I am not a good teacher, someone else should chime in about releasing throttles.

Locked Re: Panel sensors not triggering Lroutes at startup

Rummy,

Table items such as turnouts, sensors, routes, logic, etc. have a system name and a user name.

When you create a new object, such as an internal sensor, a prefix is added if necessary, such as IS, and the rest is changed to upper case to create the system name. ?The user name is used as entered after removing leading and trailing spaces.

The system name cannot be changed. ?The user name can be changed and if necessary, moved to a different system name. ?

For maximum flexibility, assign and use the user name rather than the system name. ?For example, an internal sensor was created as IS123 / Sensor XYZ. ?Later it is discovered that this sensor would work better if it was a physical level on the layout. ?Assuming a Digitrax layout with appropriate hardware, Sensor XYZ could be moved to LS1122 (LocoNet Sensor) and JMRI would continue working as expected.

I don¡¯t recall seeing which version of JMRI you have been using. ?You mention the name shows up without the IS prefix. ?Is that in the XML?systemName element or XML?userName?element? ?If you could provide a bad version of the file we can determine if there is a problem that needs to be fixed.

I don't know why PanelPro does this. ?Type in any name, and the sensor shows up on the panel, in the sensor table, and in all the other tables as "IS" +?name. ?But look in the configuration file and the name is minus the "IS". ?Also, and this is weird, if I type in "IS" + name to start with when placing the?sensor on the panel, as in "ISTEST 1", "ISTEST 1" shows up everywhere, even the config file. ?One would think PanelPro would add another "IS" to the?name I gave it, making it "ISISTEST 1". ?But it doesn't. So this is my workaround. ?So far I've been adding sensors using a beginning "IS" and all is well.

One cautionary note regarding editing the configuration file with a text editor: ?there are 2 kinds of quotes - generic quotes that can be opening or?closing quotes (they are vertical and therefore interchangeable), and non-generic quotes wherein the opening quotes tilt the opposite way as the closing?quotes. ?Java and JMRI only like the generic quotes. ?As I was editing the names in the config file, my text editor sometimes would change a generic?opening quote to a non-generic opening quote, and if I didn't catch it and make it a generic variety, an error would occur when trying to open the panel.

Anyhow, thanks to all who responded and gave suggestions. ?I am creating and maintaining an initialization route to align all the sensors, turnouts and?signals at startup, per several of the responders. ?Thanks again!

If you read the "Readme" pane in the roster entry, you will get more information.

There are many, many, many hundreds of LokSound Select and V4 projects and the Function names, Sound Slot names and defaults. We don't have the resources nor the flexibility in JMRI code to create and maintain that many sets of defaults and names.

If you know the ESU project name, you can download the ESU bulletin from the website to get names.

You'll need to Read Full Sheet on the CVs pane (more reliable than Read All Sheets) before making changes. This will take around 20 minutes on an NCE system. You'll need to sort by Status descending after reading and if there are any Red (Unknown) CVs, Read Changes on Sheet until they are all gone. You also need to turn off Caching and Verify after Write in Preferences->Roster->Programmer and update to the latest JMRI (currently V4.12).

You should have no problem changing Sound Volumes. If you are not sure which slot is which, use Program on Main on the Sound pane and experiment.

More help on the LokSound forum, where you will find an excellent unofficial LokProgrammer 4 manual by Phil Dunlop. The principles and Panes are similar to JMRI and it very well explains Function Mapping etc.

Using JMRI 4.11.9 on both computers.

The Rpi shows the Reader interface just fine but will not display the Reader Boards.

Also the window opens without a Title for the Reader Boards.

Why can I setup Blocks and sensors and work fine but not display the Reader Boards?

Hi Tony
Ensure that the autotrain loco has been fully released from all other throttles before attempting to create the train. Autotrain will not work on a shared throttle. You can clear all command station slots with an OpSw, see the digitrax documention for which one.
LocoNet slot monitor can be a good start to finding inuse throttles.

please help as i am having a new issues with an engine running on
automatic mode

run a auto train
sometimes it makes it thru a loop. my throttle shows its speed
then randomly it stops and the throttle shows 0 speed
i switch to manual mode and use speed lever above 0 and it goes only to
stop again. speed lever went to 0
so i switch to auto and it goes.

i terminate train
i cant control the engine with my physical throttle
i write all sheets on the programming track
now throttle control e.ngine

please tell me what i am doing wrong or whats going on

i have my layout connected to computer running jmri 4.12. a layout
panel using sml signals.
sections are defined.transits are defined. dispatcher settings are
set to run train automatically.
enter a train name, dcc address etc.
click on add train
the active train window lists the train. status=running /
mode=automatic / allocated section is the next section from the one
train starts in
requested allocation waiting for dipatch window shows train and
lists the next section after the one allocated
allocated sections shows the train in iy12 as occupied and shows
iy13 as unoccupied

everything looks good except the train is not running

how do i get it to start. looks like the program assumed it
running but it never moved

in the settings when i entered its dcc address of 5512 it shows as
5,512

if i run the train with a physical throttle the allocated sections
table lists the sections in and the next one changing each as the
engine moves.
