with george's help, we did find my problem. it seems that turnout user names are required. i was only giving the system name and trying to use that, but when i give my turnouts a user name, then all works as expected.

Just an FYI: User names aren鈥檛 required鈥� it was just a bug introduced by your鈥檚 truly鈥� This should be fixed in an upcoming build (4.8?).

Hey Dave,

Thanks for the great article. I wish NCE had that information in their manual. Answered a lot of my questions and more. Here is my scenario I have set up.

Front loco 5629 running forward. Rear loco 5203 running in reverse. I select loco 5629 and it comes up CON 5629. Runs as designed, Only 5629 has the bell, horn and headlight. Now, I go to switch directions. I select 5203 and it comes up CON 5203. Direction set as forward. Consist begins to run, however when I sound the horn or bell, both engines respond. Strange.

Now, in JMRI, all consist settings are set to "Locomotive Address Only".

I am sure you have an answer.

Help, using JMRI Panel Pro V.6 with standalone PR3 on a MS 10 Lenovo. Have searched all I can for how to setup a railroad grade crossing. Have viewed all the files in change icons 鈥� resources. Do not see a typical grade crossing with gates. Have searched and found all sorts of discussions like 鈥淐an we call a duck a duck?鈥�, 鈥淧anelPro Grade-Crossing control script鈥� and various other well written posts. I am one of the users of JMRI that has very little technical knowhow or experience in JMRI programming. I have most of my blocks, color coded and turnouts set up, have gotten frustrated with this crossing dilemma.

Truly grateful that there are people that volunteer to write and program this very distinct tool.

The presence of "cu.Bluetooth-Incoming-Port" indicates the chosen port is certainly not correct. What other choices are available in the Preferences dropdown list?

A Lenz user with a Mac should be able to indicate what the correct port name looks like.

Dave,

At this time, there is nothing you need to do different, other than running the script I mentioned in a previous post.

The unexpected sensor content has been there for a long time, but older versions of JMRI (before 4.7.2) did not validate the content during loading.

A developer familiar with DCC++ will need to make the determination whether the additional sensor content should be included in the XML file. If yes, then the schema will need to be changed to match.

When I try to open Panel Pro, Decoder Pro, Sound Pro, After they boot up they go into preferences and before I can do anything it shuts off back to windows 10, I'm using java 1.8 with jmri 4.6. I was just wondering if any body else had the same problem???. if so help in advance, thank you.

The technical problem is a XML schema / sensor data mismatch that only affects DCC++.


I have created GitHub issue #3695 to address this problem.


In the meantime, you need to disable XML validation during XML file loading. You have two options.


#1) Before loading the panel XML file, go to "Panels >> Run Script...". Select "TurnOffXmlValidation.py" and click on Open. This runs very quickly and you will see no response. Now you can load your panel xml file.


#2) Go to "Preferences >> Start Up". From the "Add" dropdown, select "Run Script..." Select the script as above. Save and restart. Each time you start PanelPro with this profile, the script will run automatically and you can then load your panel xml file.

1/. I have tried using both 4.6 and 4.7.1 with (essentially) the same invalid XML files being created.

2/. I don't really understand why PanelPro agrees to write out sensot information if it does not meet rules. Also, have other have noted, if the XML file is invalid you can't read it back in with PanelPro to edit the tables you are forced to then try to edit the XML by hand.


I have created a directory called DavePrice in the ProblemsBeingWordOn area containing one example of the invalid XML files being created.






Any advice on either how I should be creating things, or an explanation of why JMRI PanelPro saves invalid XML files would be much appreciated.

It鈥檚 a really obscure way to say it, but the message is saying that

*) Your file refers to the icons location by starting with 鈥渟cripts:鈥�
*) But the code doesn鈥檛 accept 鈥渟cripts鈥�. It does accept 鈥減rogram:鈥�, 鈥減reference:鈥�, 鈥渟ettings:鈥�,鈥漢ome:鈥�, profile:鈥� or some other things.

If you send me the file, I鈥檒l do a quick edit on it and send it back. (It鈥檚 still work on the old version, just in case)

Richard is right in that the top of the wye turnout can抰 have 2 different addresses, but a Macro would do very nicely as they can use addresses in all kinds of combinations.

Macro 1
Coming from the west throw west turnout to diverging and the turnout at the top of the wye to normal
Macro 2
Coming from the east, throw east turnout to diverging and the turnout at the top of the wye to diverging
(terms at the top of the wye such as normal or diverging don抰 particularly matter they just need to be identified.
Macro 3
Both west and east turnouts for the mainline are set at normal for through the main operation. Don抰 worry about assigning the turnout at the top of the wye as your other macros will choose the correct alignment when selected.

The issue is how to identify the two turnouts in the Panel so clicking on either one activates the turnout since both are effectively the same address and you can't have two turnouts with the same hardware address. Not sure how you would use a macro.
