Louis,

?

If you are using MS Edge and MS Defender you will have to ‘Keep’ the download 2 times during the process.

?

Start the download from the ‘Release Notes’ page; a ‘Downloads’ sidebar opens.? The JMRI download appears at the top of the list with a ‘warning’ triangle.? Hover on the entry; click on the 3 dots; click ‘Keep’

?

A ‘Make sure you trust . . .’ pop-up opens.? Click on ‘Show More;’ click ‘Keep Anyway.’

I have been a JMRI user from the days of the infamous lawsuit... Happenings of the last two years have kept me out of Model Railroading and JMRI.? Trying to restart with a new location and layout.

I tried to download the latest test version of JMRI to a new WIN 11 laptop.....

I tried to follow the steps to "trust" the downloaded file but nothing on my computer resembled the instructions I got from the helpful web...?

Is there a straight forward set of instructions for downloading and installing JMRI on WIN 11?

Lou,

A lot depends on which form of Antivirus you have on the computer.
Each will present a similar but different message. All of them boil
down to it saying:

We haven't seen this file very often. We don't detect any known virus
in it but not sure if you should trust it or not.

Now some systems put a clickable point on that window that leads you
to being able to say "I know where it is from, I trust it" like
Windows Defender. But others 'quarantine' it and you have to go into
that folder to get it back. Mentioning which system you use for AV
might help us get you to the right place.

Lou,

Are you using a 3rd party anti-virus package? ?If so, which one?

The help page that was updated today describes the steps required for Microsoft Defender.

If you could provide a screenshot of the message that you see, someone might be able to help.

I found it in the "basic Fx" group.
Some simple decoders do not have read enabled. And the definition has 0 in CV7/8, so nothing JMRI can read to get the version.

This has happened to me a few times, as recently as a couple of days ago.? In my case inevitably it is because I have made some change to the properties of the classification track and it no longer accepts this type of car for various reasons.? Fixing the classification track properties resolves the issue.??

Very rarely a car will be picked up in a location and setout in another location before reaching the yard, but this is very rare and I am not sure why.? ?
What I want to have happen is, as an example, the train picks up a car at C, that is destined for A.? This train has already passed A so it cannot deliver the car to A directly.? I want the car to be picked up from C by YB10, taken to Baltimore and put on a classification track that services A so that it can be sent out on a future train (next session) that does service A.??
This makes things clearer.? You have a couple of conflicting statements.? First you say "the cars have no destination beyond the yard when they arrive".? Then you say "the train picks up a car at C, that is destined for A".? If this car that is picked up at C is destined for A, then it needs to have a final destination of A.? This can be done in a couple of ways, depending on your needs.? You can create a schedule for the C location telling it that specific types of cars at this location will have a final destination of A.? If you are using custom loads (which I highly recommend), then JMRI will route the car from C to A via the yard.? As well, if you want this specific car to always go to destination A with a specific load, you can set this up just for the car.? What you are wanting to do is very doable in JMRI.??
?
I highly recommend accessing Pete Johnson's instructions on JMRI in the Wiki section of this group, specifically .? Of course there are also the excellent help files for JMRI.? You will need to do a bit of reading to get familiar with custom loads and schedules, but it is well worth it.??
?
I am sure that Pete will chime in as well and give a more detailed explanation than I have, so stay tuned :)??

Locked Re: Need help with SML discovery on a crossover #sml

Scott,

You only need to assign a new block to the lower half. ?This happens to be the A and B connections.
You will need to remove and add SM6-77-78 since it now has a different block boundary. ?

Once that is done, you can generate the SML.
SM6-72-78 does not need to be a double head mast. ?The upper head will never be used unless you put a mast at the stub track end bumper.

Personally, I would create a block boundary at the throat of turnout 6:01 and add a double head mast. ?All of the departure signals would use the new mast as their destination.

In SML, a route is normal if ALL turnouts are closed. ?It is diverging if ANY turnout is thrown. ?This affects route based signal systems such as "basic".

Thanks, Dave. ?I have updated the crossover to have a different block on each of the different legs but I still could not get the logic to build for that signal mast. ?In fact, now another signal mast, SM6-72-78, is also missing any logic.
?
When I attempt to set signal masts, it is giving me options that do not make sense for this type of crossover.
?
Sorry, I'm getting confused. ?Should I stop using a crossover and simulate one with two normal turnouts?
BTW, that one dead end leg we will not be automating so perhaps I should just change this into a simple right-hand turnout.

Eric,?
I use custom loads in a couple of specific places (Ash pit generates a load of ash, and the cement factory receives cars with ash loads, etc.) but creating custom loads for every industry and then modifying every industry for creating/receiving custom loads is a task I was hoping to avoid.??
I think my answer is the assigning of trains that can pick up cars for each classification track as you mentioned.? I had played with this in the past but it did not work but I am guessing I just did not set it up correctly.? Will play with this and see if I can get it to work, because what you described is exactly what I need - arrive at the yard with a classification track as the destination, but not the final destination.

Thanks and?Regards,

Locked Re: Last operated date

Hi CLL,
?
The RosterEntry attributes Operating Duration and Last Operated are set when a Throttle has been obtained BY ROSTER ENTRY ( not just DCC Address ) and this Throttle is released.
?
Larger Rosters could well have 2 entries for the same DCC Address, it's not a unique field.
?
If there was demand for it, it would be possible to add an option to update Roster Entries matching the DCC Addresses when a non-RosterEntry selected JMRI Throttle is released, although JMRI already has a fair number of Throttle settings and there's been no demand AFAIK.
?
An option to update matching DCC Address RosterEntries based on locos within command station monitors would require a fair few code tweaks.

What triggers the database to update the last operated date and what triggers the operating duration?

I’m going to guess and say using the JMRI throttle.?

Therefore, I ask, can the command monitor Paris, the data coming back and update the database automatically?

Locked Re: Having cars move from Town A to Town B via a yard #operationspro

I put a reply to this earlier, but it seems to have not gone out to all in this group, so trying again.
?
Rick,
?
I have found that by using custom loads and schedules, the cars all have final destinations that are not the yard, even though the train terminates at a yard. In your case, the yards at York and Baltimore need to be defined as C/I tracks for all this to work.
?
In my club's layout, we modified the location settings for the yard to allow the cars to be pointed to the correct classification track, with each classification track being defined for one or more trains to pick up from that track. So, again, in your case, one of the tracks in Baltimore would be set to allow BY11 (which services town A) to pick up cars. BY11 would not pick up from any other classification track.
So, in my club's operations, the car picked up by YB10 at C would have a final destination of A, and on arrival at Baltimore, would now have the track for BY11 as its destination (but not final destination).
?
We do the same as you as far as building all the trains for a session, running the session and terminating all trains at the end of the session. The key to get the cars correctly assigned to the correct train to complete the run is twofold: 1. use custom loads and schedules to give each car a final destination, and 2. set the classification yards to only allow one train to pickup from each track in the yard, but allow all terminating trains to set-out on all tracks. You can, during a session, have the train crew do the final classification, or, as we do, pass the paperwork to the switching crew on arrival to do the actual classification.
?
Works a real treat.?

Locked Re: Having cars move from Town A to Town B via a yard #operationspro

Pete,
I will attempt to provide a clearer, and more complete, explanation of what I am trying to do.
?
My RR has two yards at the South (Baltimore) and North (York) terminus of the railroad.? In between these are 7 towns, I will call these A, B, C, D, E, F, G (from North to South) because location relative to each other is relevant to what I am trying to do and using these letters makes it easy to see where each location is relative to the the others.
?
I have JMRI configured for max train size of 450 feet, and since all cars on my RR are 40' or less a typical train consists of 10 cars plus engine and caboose.
?
I will discuss only one south bound train here (YB10), and the Route for this train is York, A, B, C, D, E, F, G, Baltimore, and this train only does work in A, C, E, G (there is another train that runs later in the session that uses this same route and only does work in B, D, F).?
?
It may be worth noting that I build all trains for a session before the session starts.? I do not build any trains during the session, and all trains will get terminated in JMRI after the session is over.
?
Currently, when I build the train (YB10) it will typically leave the yard with the 10 cars and set all 10 of those cars out at the industries in the locations were it works, and it will also pick up cars from those locations, arriving at Baltimore with 10 cars all of which are destined for the Yard (the cars have no destination beyond the yard when they arrive).? Very rarely a car will be picked up in a location and setout in another location before reaching the yard, but this is very rare and I am not sure why.? Also, I do not allow cars to travel from origin to destination, so no cars are picked up in York to be set out in Baltimore'

I want the car to be picked up from C by YB10, taken to Baltimore and put on a classification track that services A so that it can be sent out on a future train (next session) that does service A.??
?
I hope that more clearly explains what I am currently doing and what I am trying to get JMRI to do.

I installed the decoder and it does run correctly as loco number 3. I wanted to change the loco number so I used "New Loco" , "Read type from decoder" steps to try to add it into DecoderPro.
The "Create New Loco" panel shows this .......
?
Whether I choose "All" or "Matched Only" the screen shot above is the only result. ? I looked through Digitrax website and discovered there is a retired DN147A. I think its safe to say the DN147 currently in DecoderPro is the DN147A which Digitrax retired in 2002.
The DN147A was replaced by the DN163A1
The DN163A1 has been replaced by the DN147A1 which is what I have purchased a week ago.
So we have DN147's and DN147's .......... I'll refer to what I have as DN147A1 (2024)?
?
I think the version number is what is holding DecoderPro from identifying the decoder correctly.
I don't want to change DecoderPro from version 4.26 because all of the 5.XX versions I have tried have a problem with identifying ports when I try to connect.
4.26 works great ! ?Is there a way I can update part of DecoderPro 4.26 when the version numbers from Digitrax becomes available ?

You cannot have the same block on both halves of a crossover. ?The route logic only finds the neighbor on the straight route, in this case the stub track.

I am having trouble getting a signal in front of one of the crossovers on the layout editor panel to discover the path to the other signals.
?
It doesn’t automatically discover them using GrandReset + Generate tools, nor if I choose Discover, and, if I try to manually add it, it says ?“the destination mast is not directly reachable from the source mast.” I disagree ?, but I’m not sure how to work around the issue.

Obviously, I’ve done something wrong with how I layed-out the crossover, blocks, or signal masts.
?
I will upload the config.xml file to a folder with my name.
?
I am working on a panel called “District 6”, the signal mast is called “SM6-77-78” and the crossover is “6:25” (and is labeled as such).
