开云体育Read this and look at the Tsunami section. It' slightly different from the standard for locking: John, nice write-up. Just one comment about the statement: “Note: Although not specifically stated, legal values for CV16 are limited to 1 to 7. Even then, Digitrax mentions 0 as a legal value. The author cannot test this as he does not use Digitrax decoders.” As you note, the NMRA standard does not give “legal values” for CV15 & 16. ESU, for example, gives 0-255 as allowed values for these CVs in the decoder manuals. As far as I know, all manufacturers allow 0. It has always been my understanding that the NMRA standard implies that 0 in CV16 means no lock. Most decoders come with 0 as default for both CVs. I’m sure you will find 0 to work just fine in whatever decoders you have. Now I need to test a few decoders to see if CV16=0 results in no lock independent of CV15 value. It may be that the default for decoders is unlocked because both CV15 and CV16 are 0. Mark Granville (different Mark) |

I strongly agree with Dave about NOT using LibreOffice Writer to edit *text*

(configuration, data, etc.) files. LibreOffice Writer is a *word processor* and is not really meant to be used as a plain text editor. It is all about editing *typeset* documentations. Linux has a whole selection of proper text editors, from nano (super simple) to emacs (super complex), specificly designed to edit plain text files (ASCII). 开云体育Tim, Basically a signal is used to "protect" a "block" from being entered by reason of some conflict, usually either a conflicting route alignment or occupancy by another train. A "block" is a section of track that may be occupied by only a single train at a time. A piece of track such as a turnout, a yard ladder, a level
crossing, or even a length of single track, are all potential
blocks. For a portion of track that can legitimately hold more than one train at the same time you would normally treat that as multiple blocks. Some examples would be a single or double crossover. In some configurations it may only allow one train to occupy it, but in other configurations there may be two trains. Therefore it must be at least two blocks, one for each possible simultaneous path. On the other hand a slip switch can only be occupied by a single
train at a time, because even if it has the same track connections
as a crossover, you can not occupy more than one path at a time.
It is therefore only a single block. From the level crossing example it should be obvious that the
same block (the diamond) can be a part of two unrelated routes.
This means that signals on two different routes sometimes need to
be interlocked with one another. In this case of a diamond, only
one of its four possible paths may be cleared at a time. For automated running even multi-turnout yard leads might need to be detected, but a single block may be all that is required for a whole lead track, again because only one train at a time is allowed to occupy it. As you are planning for signal blocks you can mentally proceed
along each track and make note of possible points of conflict
where one train may need to wait on another. Those are where you
will add block junctions. (gaps) If you have long sections of
single track (typically longer than a train length) you may add a
block gap and intermediate signal to allow one train to follow
another. The prototype does this often, but normally our models
don't allow us this luxury very often, if at all. It is not
uncommon for a loco to be entering one town before the cab has
left the previous one. Dick :) On 5/1/2023 12:05 PM, Tim Kelley wrote:

Re: Loco moving only during sensing decoder type | Decoder Pro
Wow thank you guys for the help, It is greatly appreciated. Truly.
So I went and cleared everything I had in the roster, threw the loco on the programming track, and clicked "Identify", after moving backwards for a bit it a pop-up appeared and read "3007 was read from the decoder but has not been found in the roster" and that was it. After that I clicked "New Loco" and clicked "Read type from decoder" I selected one of the four highlighted Decoders, the "2 function decoder" and the long address read as "3007". On that same page I then clicked "Open Comprehensive Programmer". Once there I made the ID of the loco 3007, then went to the CV's tab and clicked "Read Full Sheet" and let the process complete. Here are the CV values: CV 1: 3 CV 2: 10 CV 3: 1 CV 8: 101 CV 17: 203 CV 18: 191 CV 29: 38 The column next to the CV values on the right reads" read" on all CVs. Also on the Comprehensive Programmer it says it has a primary address of 3, and extended address of 3007. I don't know if that is the method you all meant when it was said to identify the loco not from the roster, but that is the method I took. Thanks again, I truly appreciate it, Thomas |

Hi John & Folks I believe one way to do it is to set up the team track with "phantom" numbers Team Track-1. Team Track-2. Team Track-3, for each industry The Set Out won't be "Ryan's Rebar", it will be a car type & car #, L&N 123456 for example I'm not even sure you need to have multi numbers for Team Track.? Team Track can be a destination for multiple car types, established in the "Services Car Type and or Loads" setting for the spur Team Track-1 could/would be for Ryan's Rebar, and would have the car types to be serviced, like any other spur.? You may wish to use custom loads, but I don't think it is necessary at first. Based on your?description, and the label of team track I am assuming the car won't be moved to Ryan's Rebar, it will stay at the team track dock till unloaded and then be taken away be a train. Hi Duncan, You are confusing loco cabs (the locos under your control) with NCE's concept of a cab, which is a controller connected via the cab bus to the command station, in your case just the power cab itself. Add a ProCab and you'd see another cab show up. At this point, I don't remember if AIUs? MiniPanels and the NCE-USB should also be in that list? but I'm sure a more enlightened soul than I am will chime in. Then I wonder why all the "Read" buttons on the decoder page are grayed out. My JMRI is 5.3.3 on Windows 10 wiht Java 11.0.14. Anyone have an idea why that might be?

I found out right away that I couldn't think of individual items like blocks, signaling, detection, and power feed.
They are all part of a system. Start out with turnout protection.? Signals are needed (either real or virtual) on each leg. Signals reside (usually) at block boundaries. Some of my turnout track work are close and I consider that set of turnouts as one structure. (think 3-way) When you run automation, each turnout needs to be a block. If you plan to detect the turnout, gap each leg. I didn't burn a detector channel, so I simulated the turnout occupancy (it's tricky) Sometimes, I seriously thought of detecting certain turnouts. Generally, you'll assign a JMRI block to an electrical block and detect on the feed. I use JMRI mast logic, but plan your signals now regardless of signal system you use. For the time begin you and run automation without signals. I ran my automation with virtual signals until I installed hardware. Like carpentry - measure twice cut once - plan twice then build. -- Ken NYNH&H, Old Colony Division, Cape Cod Branch (1949-1959) [DB150][PR3][QuadLN_S][JMRI 5.3.5] |

Tim, Since you plan to do signaling, I would recommend each turnout, or group of turnouts, has its own block. ?For example, a "group of turnouts" could be two turnouts acting as a 3-way turnout. ?Or an interlocking plant. A signal protects a "point of conflict". ?That is normally a turnout or a level crossing. ?In JMRI, signal masts are placed at block boundaries. ?To fully protect a turnout, the block boundaries have to be at the throat and legs. It is easier to work with too many blocks than not enough blocks. Dave Sand ----- Original message ----- From: Tim Kelley <tim.kelley@...> Subject: [jmriusers] Figuring out where I need to place my "blocks" Date: Monday, May 01, 2023 11:05 AM Good morning, I am in the planning stages of my layout. I am currently trying to figure out where I need to place my "blocks". I am using all Digitrax hardware including a Digitrax BXP88 for power management and also block occupancy detection. I believe the BXP88 reports block occupancy status to LocoNet. I'm also using Peco ElectroFrog turnouts. I've watched some videos on youtube and I'm thinking of setting up my Peco ElectroFrog turnouts so that each one of those turnouts is it's own individual block. I'm planning to use JMRI software for running my layout and someday maybe CATS software. Someday I plan on adding signals to my layout. I believe there are a couple of different ways of wiring up the Peco ElectroFrog turnouts. So should I plan on setting up my turnouts so that each one of them is it's own block? What do you guys think? Is that the best plan? Thanks, Tim |
