I renamed consist.xml to consist_old.xml and started WiThrottle. WiThrrottle works correctly without the consist.xml file (can't find it since I renamed it) so there is something in the file that breaks WiThrottle in 4.17.8
Thanks for uploading the file. I will take a look at that and see if I can find out why it failed to load.

Locked Re: WiThrottle Runaways #withrottleserver

Greetings All,
I had a similar problem with run-away trains when using WiThrottle connected to my iMac via my household WiFi network.? The household WiFi network was built into the cable MODEM (Shaw Cable is my i-net provider).? Here is what was happening; the iPhones and iPads were temporarily loosing their WiFi connexion to the MODEM; this is actually a rather common affair, especially during the first five minutes when the MODEM is on in the mornings.? My solution was quite simple:? I use my iPhone as a WiFi hotspot with the iPhone connected to my iMac via USB, and the other smart? phones are connected to my iPhone via WiFi.? That was the end of run-away trains on my layout.? :)

Locked Re: Linking Panels Benefit?

I haven't used connectors (yet) but for tracking trains, you need to basically do one of 2 things.
Either use connectors, or duplicate blocks on connecting panels.

for a simple example. you have straight track, consisting of blocks A - B -C -D? that spans from panel 1 to panel 2.
you can either have A-B-[connector]?? on panel 1 and [connector]-C-D on panel two,? OR
panel 1 has A-B-C and panel has B-C-D
Without doing one of these, JMRI loses track of wherea train is when it leaves one panel, and? teleports onto the other panel

For me (and connectors where brand new)? it was advantageous to have the duplaced tracks on different panels, so people coming out of a yard knew the main was occupied.

There also is the advantage for modular layouts that you can easily 'reconnect' connectors to different connectors, to assemble modules in different orders.

I just tried 4.19.1+R36b5909.exe ,the most recent successful (nightly) build. and layout rotation worked. Unfortunately, what I need is rotate selected area. I have an area of approximately 1/6th my panel ,consiting of a 5 track station, a dual crossover, 2? 6 track yards and a reverse loop (and accompaning signals) that I need to rotate 180 degrees.

Do you think that roate selected would be possible?

Thanks

Locked Re: Computer self disconnecting from layout while loading panels

Hi Billybob. Yes I am using the integral USB port on the DCS52, but I when I get this problem, it also affects the DCS 50 which is connected to USB via a PR4, I will reconnect the DCS 52 via loconet and the Pr4 and see what happens, but I am busy over the next day or 2. And yes, your symptoms describe the fault I am having. I wonder if the one locking up affects the others bearing in mind that one of them isn't Digitrax equipment but is linked via the Loconet pin 1.

Locked Re: Computer self disconnecting from layout while loading panels

Chris,

Do you happen to be interfacing the JMRI computer to the DCS52 via the DCS52 integrated USB interface?

I ask, because several DCS240 users, including myself, have experienced some instability of the DCS240 USB interface. When issues occur, the symptom is often that the USB interface is "locked up", and the obvious workaround is to quit the program, disconnect the DCS240-to-DCS52 USB cable, power-down and power-back-up the DCS240, re-connect the USB cable, then re-start the computer program.

An alternate workaround is to connect the DCS240 to the computer using a separate interface device (PR3/PR4/LocoBuffer/LocoBuffer-USB/etc.). This solution has worked well for me.

Billybob

Locked Re: Operation Manifest not printing #operationspro

Thanks Jim,

I was able to view the Manifest.? I noticed that you're using Landscape for your Manifest.? Could you try Portrait as a test to see if that changes things.? Other test, could you create a Manifest that only uses one page in Landscape mode? I'm assuming that your switch lists use only one page, and that they print in Landscape.

Also, can you confirm that paper size that JMRI selects for you?? When you print a dialogue box appears, there you can view the paper size.? Also look for anything odd.

Locked Computer self disconnecting from layout while loading panels

Over the past few months, quite often, but not every time, I load JMRI, it gives me the PanelPro main menu. I select the panel file I want to load. The panels load.Logix presets any Turnout Logic I have, the commands are sent to the command station and you hear the turnouts switching, then everything stops. I load 2 Py scripts Set all unkown sensors to inactive and set all unknown Turnouts to closed. The sensors on JMRI turn to grey, the Turnouts do not set on the display or operate on the layout.I cannot operate any of the turnouts by clicking on them and the display doesn't change either. I can change them using the DCC master key pad and this is shown in the Loconet monitor. I am also unable to program any locos with error message?306 - timeout talking to command station.? being displayed and when I move locos using the hand throttle, the sensors do not go active.on the panel.

Cures tried and failed
Closing JMRI and restarting.
Turning off Command stations then turning on again.

Cure tried and succeeded
Turning off everything, then rebooting PC and turning on command stations

NOTES ON ERROR
It doesn't happen every time.
It happened before 4.17.8 was released so it isn't something that was introduced there.
I need to start the connection Monitors before loading any panels, then save the logs.

QUESTION
Is it possible to start the monitors automatically when selecting the profile, and if so how?

NOTICED WITH BOTH JMRI 4.16 and 4.17.8
PC running Windows 10

DCC HARDWARE
Digitrax DCS 52 Zephyr Express as a master for Accessories (JMRI Prefix L2) DCC Concepts AD8fx accessory decoders for turnouts
Digitrax DCS 50 Zephyr as a master for sensors and loco programming (JMRI?Prefix L) Digitrax BDL168 and DigiKeijs DR4088LN-CS sensors
Gaugemaster (MRC) Prodigy 2 for loco control (JMRI?Prefix M)

I am not 100% convinced that the problem is JMRI, but might be something that I've done wrong.

I didn't make any changes to the file format¡ So what Steve Todd said is correct¡ you should be able to do a one time run, rotate & save and it should then work just fine on a production build.

Locked Re: Rotation of layout #layouteditor

George
I've just tried this on 4.19.1 and it looks great.

It doesn't seem to cause any problems, but I've noted that if you rotated 4 times (i.e. back to the starting position) then text labels actually have a rotation angle of 360 degrees rather than 0 as they started. Rotating again goes to 90 degrees. (not 450!).

It's a great feature - and now I know how to use it with the equivalent of copy/paste (/g/jmriusers/topic/68854860 ) it's a game changer!

Thanks
Andy

Dave
That is amazing! I've just tried it with 4.19.1:
  • Loaded original panel
  • Loaded it again - ignored warning
  • Changed the Title on one of them
  • Rotated one by 180 using new functionality
  • Saved panels with new name
  • Closed PanelPro
  • Opened new panel - Volia 2 panels, one rotated!
I cannot believe how much time I could have saved (and will save in the future) using this method!!

Just Brilliant!

Thanks

Locked Re: WiThrottle Runaways #withrottleserver

Hi Jim, the room is only 10x25 feet, and I can be standing next to the router and it happens. It is a consistent fault, that is no matter where in the room, or what type of loco ( brand), mainly Kato and all have TCS decoders. I will change over my computer and see if I still get it.
cheers

Locked Re: Copy/Paste Layout Editor panel #layouteditor

Andy,

The following idea violates the rule against loading multiple xml files but may do what you want when handled carefully.

Load the panel xml file 2 times and you will end up with two identical panels.

You will get warnings about duplicated panel names, There may be some side effects, but the main tables such as turnouts and sensors properly handle multiple loads.

If you have a master xml file and create the dual panel file as needed, changes are easier to manage. ?Just rebuild the dual panel file.

On more than one exhibition layout I've worked on, viewing from 2 directions is required - one for the operator and one for the 'public'. Typically one of these requires a 180 degrees rotation.? What I've done to date is to create a new panel with exactly the same block connections and points, but with the different viewing position. This leaves me with 2 panels, both of which are active and used. There is the problem of keeping both in sync, but if done late in the development process, changes are minimal.

I look forward with interest to trying out the modification described in /g/jmriusers/topic/68640374 (Rotation of layout), but what would be really useful would be to copy/paste the panel, and then rotate it to achieve this same result that I've been doing the hard way. Is there an easier for me?

Thanks
Andy

That's awesome Jim.? I wish I had more time to devote to learning electronics.? I kind of figured you must be building your own equipment when I saw the two aspects.? I picked up a bunch of ardiunos and used them to set up C/MRI which was pretty neat.? It was a cobble job but still fun.? Good luck with your project.

I've Installed JMRI on 2 of my machines today, one which I normally do any modifications to the layout file and the other which connects to the layout. On both, the layout files have loaded without any problems and the Incompatable spur connections to the Turntable between tables has now disappeared. Thanks
