Locked Re: Help to Automate my railroad.

George,

What do you mean by "4 blocks separated”?

The unexpected blocks in the Block table is a known issue which I am currently investigating.

If you upload your panel xml file to the ProblemsBeingWorkedOn folder, I can review it and make recommendations for the next steps.

Just a few comments
If you have 3. 4x8 board layout and only 4 blocks your not going to have many trains running. ?Your blocks should be train length. ?On my 8x8 layout i have over 40 blocks.
I use digitrax and rrckts interface also. Each block must be connected to the loconet via a bxp88 (8 blocks per device with transponding) or bdl168 (16 blocks per card-no transponding) board. ?Your switches get connected to the loconet via ds64 devices. I believe you can use virtual switches and not actually have your switches connected to the internet. Reporters work off of transponders. Your decoder in your engine must have transponding. Many new one do, old ones dont. Reporters are added to your layout panel and tells you which engine is in which block.
You must have a signal system setup on your layout panel. Again the signals dont have to be real on the layout.
Trains travel from block to block via your layout panel which tells the computer how your blocks are connected. It reads signals at the junction of each block. The computer then runs your trains after you set up routes, transits, and trains. Are you doing operations?

What do you want to do.

Richard,
Once you get the throttle built and framed, if you go to the "File" tab on the throttle itself, you can save your creation as the default throttle.
I think that you may have to bring the default up for each roster entry at least once.
You can also save a different throttle configuration for each roster if you choose.

I'd be very doubtful about trying to adapt a large complex set of software, with lots of semi-autonomous actions, designed to operate one complex system definition,?? to a quite differently purposed and defined complex system. I'd anticipate a lot of unexpected surprises and unintended consequences.

My career experience has favored understanding and defining the user/market requirements fully first, then designing a suitable functional architecture and matching implementation second. (hardware and software) .

BTW Going a little beyond the restrictions of tracked trolleys, prototype buses on the same or different routes are usually allowed to overtake other stopped buses at any convenient points if the rush hour traffic flow/congestion warrants it. A model of a rapid transit system would typically (try to) include buses as well as trolleys.

Each scheduled train has its own transit. ?This is required since the times are added as actions. ?This eliminates the shared transit limitation.

An “active train” in the Dispatcher sense uses the modified transit in conjunction with the assigned motive power, etc., as it does now. ?The “planned train” becomes a “real train”.

I see this being a 3 phase project:

1. Implement the "wait until time" action in Dispatcher. ?Once this
is in place, a person can manually add the actions to run a train
by a timetable.
2. Implement the ability to create a timetable with all of the
required data including the link to automatically maintain the
actions.
3. Provide reporting tools and the ability to export the data.

Steve,

Does the Conductor screen now allow the options to edit what is there? This
exists on the computer end to say a car wasn't there for pickup, or a car
was found that didn't show. To advance to the next town, you had to
'complete' the work first, and before you couldn't make the changes via the
web. I haven't tested it lately, but last year, the web version only let you
say you completed the work and advance to the new town.

Hi Mike,
You can access the Locations window by selecting "Enable frames" in the Web Preferences. This (mostly) works.
However, it sounds like you also want a web view of the YardMaster window as well, correct? Unfortunately, that window does not work properly with the frameserver. It actually hangs up my JMRI when I click on it.

Trains, Manifest and Conductor have all been rewritten as web applications, which seem to work well. The Trains and YardMaster functions could also be rewritten as web apps, but no one has yet undertaken to do the work.

Meanwhile, depending on your server setup, you may be able to use a remote control app, VNC, TeamViewer, etc. to share your server desktop screen including these windows out to your tablet client(s).

I will create a JMRI issue to create web versions of the Locations and YardMaster windows. One difficulty is finding someone willing and able to write the web apps who also knows enough about JMRI Operations to verify the functionality.

Is it possible to open the Operations Locations window remotely so that the Yardmaster lists could be viewed from a remote device?
The only Ops window I found available for remote viewing (not counting the CTC Panel and the Roster) was the Trains list.?
The Conductor view within that is close, but I would prefer to have the Yardmaster Report view accessible.
Is there something I can do to make the Locations window shareable so that the Yardmaster Report can be viewed remotely?
Or, could this potentially be incorporated in a future release?

Normally you want to select the Clear option. This disables the option to use a different color during route setup.

The theory behind this option is to let the dispatcher know that the route is being set. Once the setup is complete and the specified time has expired, the track and extra colors go back to the assigned values. If an error occurs during the setup process, the temporary track and extra colors remain. There might have been an error recorded in the system console.
